I managed to get a copy of the novelisation off eBay (for about $300), and it's mind-blowing how deep Aykroyd's lore behind the band was. A lot of it didn’t make the movie, but it's a fantastic read.

Two important factors help make SNL so successful. 1. The show broke new comic and music talent, BUT it was never about getting ahead of the news. It was also a response to what happened that (week), sprinkled with timeless absurdity. 2. Unlike other (previous) variety shows, SNL seemed to have an excellent ability and a flexibility to learn from previous shows. They were actively growing as the shows went on an the audience could see it. Life attracts life.

Aykroyd is also responsible for SPIES LIKE US. Also, essentially MEN IN BLACK which is GHOSTBUSTERS dressed as THE BLUSE BROTHERS. The creator of MIB is from my hometown btw. I see him shopping for electronics at BEST BUY sometimes.

The "Jackie Roger's $100,000 Jackpot Wad" skit from Season 10 when he played Captain Kangaroo getting pissed off was probably his best.

George Carlin was a comedian, not a philosopher. He put his pants on one leg at a time like everybody else. But, after he put his pants on, he wrote some really good fart jokes.

The line between comedian and philosopher is very thin, and Carlin often found himself on both sides of that line.

Heidi Gardner is Awesome But Otherwise The Newest SNL Seasons Really Are Terrible and Worst of All Un Funny To Me. I Still watch it at times to hope it gets Funny.
