Doc brought Snooky with him when he performed with the Great AIRMEN OF NOTE Several times when I was on the band. Snooky was fantastic 👏 and an absolute gentleman. I remember his blue 💙 plunger that he loved. May his Spirit rest peacefully knowing 🙏 what a Treasure his talents were to the world 🌎 Most respectfully..Vaughn 🎺

The US Air Force has some of the best musicians around! My brother was a USAF musician for 20 years.

Snooky! I can't believe him. He could do it all: Jazz, lead, section. He was a great player and this piece is a great showcase. Thanks for sharing.

Loved all TJML Orchestra LPs with Snooky Young. I tried to do like he did in every chart we played with Thad Jones Mel Lewis songs

Very nice. Reminds me of Clark Terry, another all time great, and former member of the NBC Orchestra.

Wow...Snooky could WAIL! Rest in peace, Sir. What a treat it was to hear these cats get in the zone and swing so hard...night after night.

Jimmie Lunceford and his orchestra recorded this in 1939 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o1jwHyErN-I.html). Snooky was part of the Lunceford orchestra at the time, so this recording from 1989 is the 50th anniversary of him playing the song. Also interestingly, the vocals on the Jimmie Lunceford recording were sung by Trummy Young, better known as long-term trombone player with Louis Armstrong's band.

OK. I now know why Doc didn't let him front the band very often. He swings and perhaps plays better than even Doc himself.

Not a competition! They are both legends in what they do. It does say alot about Doc’s beautiful character to feature another great trumpet player. He also featured Clark Terry. Doc= genius with no ego!!! I love him for that. SNOOKY!!! WOW!!!
