• Snow blower stalls on ...
Does your Ryobi snow blower stop on even the lightest snow? I have always had a problem with this snow blower stalling, but on the coldest of days I noticed a static discharge in the handle. I was actually able to capture the sound of the static discharge followed by the motor stalling and so was able to completely fix it! Now the only time the snow blower stalls is when I run into too much snow.
I bought my ring connectors and crimper at my local Princess Auto, but here are some links to stuff that should work.

It worked, but this video makes it much more difficult than it needs to be. Just pull the cover off the right side with the 4 torx screws and wrap some electrical tape around the connection of the blue wire. Thanks for making this. Real life saver.

@thecityviking Год назад
Actually I do mention and show how removing the one side cover does give you access to tape up the wires. I was trying to reduce the static as well by giving a path to the negative lead. Thanks for watching.

Two things....you should def submit this to Ryobi so they know the issue. You probably found it and they may not even realize all the people complaining about this, this is the issue. Second, i would also wrap some good cold temp resistant electrical tape around the bar you pointed out. So if the shrink wrap fails or if someone doesnt have any or a heat gun, a small thing of electrical tape wrapped around the bar might also work.

@@thecityviking I have one generation newer than yours, though not the newest version, and it has been having a problem similar to yours, but not exactly like yours. I opened mine up and they had eliminated your bare cable issue . . . found some wires that were pinched which I thought might have been shorting to ground, freed them up, but still having the issue . . . my issue may also be tied to the "throttle" adjuster, as it seems to perform better just slightly back from full throttle . . . puzzling.

You have a brushless motor and I think the data line is supposed to be to signal sending more power to the motor if things start to bog down. I have a Ryobi brushless lawn mower that will spin up faster if I hit some thick grass. It tries to auto compensate like a gas engine would do. I've had a similar issue with a similar Ryobi 40v snow blower that I'm about to take apart so this was very educational. For me I think I may have damaged the safety bale cable that goes from the handle to the unit, so I'm about to take it apart and see if I can just patch the cable if it's not a tension cable and is just a switch line. Wish me luck! I think I may actually record my progress and if I get it working, post it on youtube because there's so few videos showing how to fix this shutoff issue.
@thecityviking
@thecityviking Год назад
I believe you could be right about the data line. As for the cable for the switch, I have a video on that for a different make. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i7FvKgWHhik.html Thanks for watching.

There are lots of negative reviews of various Ryobi 40v snow blowers that exhibit the same issue. I wonder if it's all due to static.

I bought mine second hand off kijiji. I bought it thinking it would never perform as good as the gas one I owned but was surprised that I had problems with the lightest of snow. Now, with the modification it performes as good as I could expect for a single stage snow blower. Thanks for watching

I just tried my snow blower after many years without use, it worked fine the first part of the storm, in the middle of the storm i tried again, it blowed some heavy snow and shut off and it didn’t start until I removed the battery and tried it again and it just touched the snow and shut off , and notice the spinning of auger sound slow and weak. Do you have any idea why auger sound slow And weak, I checked inside of the snow blower and it is different,now the three wires (red,black and blue) attached to a big white plastic connect so the static is not the problem
@thecityviking
@thecityviking Год назад
It does sound like a different problem than what I show in my video. A couple things I would check... 1. Try a different battery 2. Make sure the handle is completely extended as there is a switch inside which disables the auger. 3. Take it inside and let it dry out completely Hope one of those helps otherwise you may have a motor controller issue and you would have to replace it. Several people say it may be covered under warranty, so you could also try that. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I have this exact issue and machine is in warranty for another year. I called Ryobi and explained the issue and they had no clue. Only answer was to have me drive 90 miles to the closest repair center... 90 miles when I live 10 miles/16KM from Montreal and they have no service centers.....Ridiculous! Thank you for the video as I will certainly repair it myself. I can't believe they weren't aware of such a simple fix. Thanks again City Viking.

@thecityviking
@thecityviking 6 месяцев назад
I am not familiar with that one, but if the symptoms are similar, it could be. Winter is notorious for static electricity where I live, so if it's not protected from static, it's a problem. Thanks for watching, and feel free to share a link to the video on any appropriate sites. Good luck with your snow blower.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am just looking to buy a battery operated snowblower, I already have the battery powered Ryobi lawnmower and was look at the Ryobi 21 snowblower whisper series because they both use the same battery. Most of the reviews and consumer report are not that favorable, the machines stopping, stalling in light snow, and people returning?? @@thecityviking

Did you check the switch in the handle or tried a different battery? In the part of the handle where it collapses there is a switch that prevents it from running if the handle is down. Perhaps you have a bad switch?

Pure garbage of a snowblower. Plastic, no skis so gets caught on every crack and not a steal leader so it will wear out faster than a show shovel that has a steel blade. Other than that its perfect.
@thecityviking
@thecityviking Год назад
Well I don't make them but thanks for sharing. My snowblower does have a metal blade, but you are correct that it lacks metal skis. I bought mine for 200 bucks on Kijiji and included a battery and 2 chargers. I didn't expect much, but I am happy with it so far after the repair. I would prefer a 2 stage electric snow blower, but 1,500 bucks is a little steep for me right now. Thanks for watching.
