Before you comment about the bindings on backwards (they’re 180 degree reversible rental bindings for quick change from regular to goofy stance that we’ve replaced with new Burton bindings) and the technique, PLEASE watch our updated videos where Fernando corrects the over emphasis to weight on the front foot in this video and a few other corrections to proper technique that this older video admittedly doesn’t always show.
We are always looking to improve our teaching at at Adventure Ski & Snowboard School, in Encinitas, Calif since 1977, and we have made a big improvement in our new videos you can see Fernando demonstrate on RU-vid and our website www.adventureski.com.
I considered deleting this video but since over 2 million people have viewed it and 10,000 like it, I feel it must serve some value, and sorry to the 798 people that couldn’t see the good points over the bad ones...

@Antox68 8 лет назад
Victor Voodre That machine is made for teaching, not for having fun. It is slow as hell, even for the noobiest of noobies, and it doesn't even compare to the sensation of gliding on fresh snow. Trust me, I'm a snowboarder
@FeralLogic
@FeralLogic 8 лет назад
and I'm a noob beginner that has very little access to snowboarding opportunities. It would be great to have access to such a thing (probably not ACTUALLY in my garage) a few weeks prior to the one week I get to take off work and head to the mountains. It would reduce the amount of pain I go through the first and second day, relearning to snowboard.

Last week I saw a guy show up at the wrong lesson on accident and when the instructor told him to do go down the hill the best way he could, he buttered his way all the way down. Afterwards he found out the class was for beginners and the freestyling class he meant to go to was the next group over. Idk why but this reminded me of that a little

*3 years later, I've improved a lot since I first started. I stumbled upon this video and though it was ridiculous, but it turned out to have helped me a lot. Due to the fact it's on a conveyor belt, he's able to explain and show the techniques in repetition. This is the best concise fun lesson I've ever seen, the moving carped and removeable bar would allow easy progress and the way the guy teaches would probably allow progress through the really slow bits of learning process. That padded bar would provide a great balance aid. Wish I had learned this way.

Alot of people are saying Bad teacher? At least he's willing to put something up and help others out. I think this will help alot of new riders especially with the intimidation factor or getting on and off the lift. This helps build confidence and removes the fear of falling and making mistakes on the slopes. As an instructor, we all know new riders that are scared, aren't learning anything nor or they having fun. Give the guy and the school some credit.

I can't speak for everyone but this video worked for me. Take my notes. I lean / lead in the direction i'm going from the hips down through my legs; not by turning my chest. Most of the weight is in the front leg for control, direction & speed. The tail does act as a rutter. The more weight you put on your tail leg the more you level out to stop, switch & turn. For heal turn_ ass out_ toes up_ feel pressure in your calves. For toe turns hips fwd_ heals up_ you'll feel pressure in your thighs.

Probably one of the best demonstrations. I would put more emphasis on turning your shoulders before/during turning your board. And highlight that the weight on the front foot if really important (since snowboarders lean back because they are doing down a mountain, most people think their weight is on their back foot, but you can actually lean back, but have your weight on your front foot - you just need an incline to do it).

because you need to take pressure off your back foot to keep pressure on the front edge of the board, which is what controls your direction. if you lean too far back, you'll have next to no turning ability. also, on steeper terrain, it's usually necessary to "jump into" the turns if you don't have enough space or need to slow down quick. even in the description, he's talking about how people are complaining about an over-emphasis about weight over the front foot. in my experience, the biggest issue with people learning to snowboard is an inability to lean into the hill. it's a natural reflex, and it's also difficult to relearn that weight shift when riding on switch as well.
@halfcabking
@halfcabking 3 года назад
@@DaarthPingas hey thanks for your response. I've since tried these things . Weight forward is a must when learning to snowboard so when we twist the board it will engage the edge faster of course. But what these things do is force a beginner to get too far forward and then pivot turn. So I think these are not a great learning device. Also whe teaching it depends on how steep your learn to ride area is for.that lean. I say 60% on front always.
