One last SNS for 2017! In this episode we have some seal journal metalizing (spray welding), Machining a new ductile iron bearing plate, and use of a Hexagon Metrology CMM.
It's been an awesome year and I'm thankful for all my viewers, subscribers, and supporters! Thank you for helping to make this RU-vid channel what is has become. I look forward to more great things in the coming 2018 year!

It's amazing to me that some people think that they can dictate what content you wish to share. It's your channel Adam; do what you want. 150,000 of your 152,000 like what you do. Ignore the trolls.

Adam, as one of the RU-vid machinists that are responsible for inspiring a lot of people, young And old to get into any of the trades, you don’t ever need to explain your content. The people that complain need to back off and watch you work. They don’t have to watch the whole video if they aren’t satisfied with this week’s video(s). Please enjoy your holidays and thanks for the last minute SNS!!

I agree 100% Ken. It amazes me some people can't grasp the concept that the world doesn't revolve around them. I know I would get tired of feeling like I had to constantly explain myself. Adam's channel is big enough that I don't think it matters what he does, someone, somewhere, will complain.

Hey Adam, I don't comment much but I really wanted to say I love your channel. Keep it coming, but at your own pace! Don't push yourself too hard. I sometimes play your videos when my girlfriend and I are falling asleep, we really enjoy watching machine work. Super relaxing! It's also helped convince her that I do need a lathe ;)

The metalizing doesn't even have to be the same stuff as the base metal. Some parts of the wind towers I used to help make were metalized with zinc or aluminum as part of the corrosion resistant coatings.

Hexagon Metrology is an excellent example of the rapid evolution in machine vision and spacial analysis. Keep sharing. Thanks.

The Channel grows due to the fact that you are Adam Booth. Genuine, top notch effort on every job and taking the appearance of a part to an almost artistic level. Your Photography skills are awesome, but some guys video or editing may not be up to your level, or Keith Fenner's, but they are the real deal also and we like them too. If you need a break take a break, but know that we look forward to every video you post. J-ust please always come back. Nothing fake about you and other guys need to be themselves. - Not copy someone else. The real deal man. A lot of you guys just seem cool, can't figure it out but thats ok.

Great content! I'm sure some are wondering about taking the work videos. As I see it, it is a win win. A big win for your viewers and a very big win for Motion Industries to show the quality and diversification of their services at no cost to them. Just compare the company videos they put out- 3600 subs and maybe a hundred or two views on each of their videos compared to the tens of thousands of yours showing what Motion and its employees are doing. So thank you Adam and all your coworkers and thank you Motion Industries. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Ed K. Cleve. Oh.

I enjoyed watching the metal deposit welding, Adam. I started out as a welder before I went into the machining trade, and had not seen it done before. Very interesting how that works. Usually, I'm all about the setups and making chips, but showing that Hexagon was amazing, how it can do what it does just by knowing its own relationship to the world, and then using the laser and probe to make a visual conception of a whole part. Very cool! You have some pretty neat tech in the place you work, and it's nice that the owners will let you share. Hope you will thank them for us. You and Miss A. enjoy your big trip, and have a blessed and Merry Christmas!

Hi Adam. As usual, a great video and I learned some things. That seal journal really looks like new. Very nice! Your gearbox bearing cap turned out better than the original, IMHO. I haven't seen a DRO with hole circle program. That is really handy! The CMM is amazing. Years ago, my dad worked for a casting company with one. It was huge, and had a massive console to do the coordinates. Yours does far more, in less time, with only a laptop! Again that's amazing to me!!!

I prefer your shop because your old Monarch brings back fond memories. We had one at Saturn, and the toolers (*mostly) adored their Monarch. I assisted the electricians in repairing it one night, and the old girl had a vacuum tube DC drive in it (which had a blown rectifier tube, but we got it up and running nonetheless). Otherwise, chips are chips, and where they fall doesn't matter to me. Your videos are great regardless of where you choose to shoot them. :) * I say "mostly" because you're lucky to get two toolers to agree on what day it is, let along which lathe was the best.

I once built a hydraulic manifold that took advantage of every pipe standard on the planet. It had npt, nps, bspt, bspp, o-ring boss and a few others I never did find the official standard for. I ended up taking measurements off the fittings and thread milling them till they fit. Projects like that sure make you appreciate standards what ever they are.

Those were 2 great repairs Adam, The shaft repair was something I didn't know existed, you will laugh but I used to repair my outboard motor propeller shafts where the seal would wear a groove like that, by braze it up and put it in the drill press and file it back to size, would have drove you nuts LOL. But it worked ok. thanks for posting.
@jeepmanxj
@jeepmanxj 6 лет назад
I wish I could post pictures here of some of the shafts that I get back for "repair". You would find endless humor in it. We had one guy bring one that was so badly worn we thought it was a groove and made it accordingly only to find out that it was "normal wear"

Love that metalizing! Back in the 70s and 80s I had Lotus Europa cars, with a poor rear stub axle design that would eat up bearing journal contact surfaces. I had a machine shop that do this process to bring diameter back up, saving very expensive parts from the scrap bin. They never let me stay and watch... so now decades later, I get that chance with you.👍🏻🤣. Happy Holidays to you and Abby!

Jennifer I have a '74 Twincam Special. It looked pretty clean when I installed it, but I'll keep that closely in mind!
@jenniferwhitewolf3784
@jenniferwhitewolf3784 6 лет назад
Silas Marner In the Twincam they increased the size of the inner bearing and improved the race spacer between the inner and outer. The S1 and S2 had smaller inner bearings... I owned each of them. Another issue was the inner race size of the inner bearing, non standard.... I often had the stub turned down 1mm take standard bearings.. the hardness of the stub was a bit low, and even with a locktite and light press fit, over lots of miles they would wear under the race. The place that did my metalizing also hardened them, which really helped. Twin cam series changed specs, much better! You have little to worry about. I believe the bearing spacer is far harder too, in the Twin Cam, providing much greater stability to the bearings inner races. I miss my S1 the most.. Would love to have one again and put formula ford type suspension in the back, and 2 liter 4 valve cosworth. Oh well... Driving a C5 Corvette in my old age🤣.

In the UK we used Lotus as an acronym - Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious
@jenniferwhitewolf3784
@jenniferwhitewolf3784 6 лет назад
Gospelman I DO understand... In my S2, I basically had to completely rewire the car. The Prince of Darkness, Lucas, had to be evicted. I sold the S1 before getting around to it, and new owner crunched it up. My S2 had a worse fate, bent in half around a utility pole, after swerving to avoid a dog on the road and hitting gravel that had spread on the road earlier that day be some jerk spinning tires from the shoulder... I had been down that road the other way 30 minutes before and it was clean... such is fate. I lived... and bought the S1 with no engine... Should have tried harder to keep it I guess, but now 30 years later, part of that may be just nostalgia..

Michael Lloyd I'm in the market right now, and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a video like this. Tons of quick marketing videos though.
