For all the people complaining about you spending all that effort on buying and shipping and restoring the shaper, here's your answer. How else do they propose squaring up those tube ends? Get a 5" long end mill and hope you don't wreck it on that weld? Stand the tube up, bolted to the front of the milling machine table, and indicate the sides perpendicular to the table? Set it in a four-jaw chuck on the lathe and hope that you've got a great big through spindle? No, just set it in the shaper vise and set the automatic downfeed, and sit back and watch, making sure you don't get chips flying at you.

i worked with a old machinist he was 90 years old in 1994 but dang he could lay down some tooling fast. Sitting at the break room table said his boat had a full machine shop in mills drills whatever they needed he did say they got into trouble one day trying to get out fast they through the whole machine shop and welding shop over board yes that what the man told me. its kinda weird those of us never been on a bout to have a full machine shop welding shop etc but they do thus day
