I finished Sunshine last night for the first time in almost 20 years. I had forgot that the last level is called "Corona Mountain". Something tells me I won't forget it this time.
The controversy did not affect me. I planned on buying this for my birthday. and got it. Does not matter to me. I just loved playing these games all over again.
@Random Polygon Oh boy, here we go again with the delusional "child fanboy" mentality. Seriously, can you stop acting like you're a victim and we're doing bad stuff to you? Because that is how you are acting. It's like you're only trying to make people mad.
@@Abpaco1 I think it’s purely because I had a N64 and Wii. So the nostalgia is strong specially on Mario64. I had a Nes & Gameboy but skipped SNES, GameCube and Wii U. Just had alternative Consoles or Micro computers.
There are alot of people that never played these games...its a good idea to release them and give them a new audience....everything isn't always about nostalgia
@CONNOR SANDERS Bruh have you seen third party companies? They are still making great new games that look and play amazing. Bro look at crash 4. Sony and Microsoft are releasing new consoles, even with covid. Also, don’t tell me little kids are gonna enjoy Mario 64. It’s gonna be hella hard for them, with the crummy camera and movement. They’ll even have trouble with Mario Sunshine, so don’t say that it’s about introducing them to these games. I could probably make this game, that’s how easy it is. It’s legit a rom and two iso dude.
Woe, everyone complaining that kids are gonna be bad at these games and look at them a few years ago. Getting a victory royale... That game is hard too.
@Rich Garcia I was an NES kid. These games are way past my time as a "console gamer" that moved over to being a PC gamer when I started building my own PCs in the mid '90s as a teenage. Got a few Switches for the family this last year for fun.
Someone said it best: "It's a collection of 3 great games, not a great collection of 3 games." As someone who has never played these 3 games before, I think the value is there for people like myself. I still haven't gotten it yet, but I will soon. For those who already played it, I can understand why they think it's a lazy rip-off, though I think some criticisms are a bit farfetched. I do have some problems with it, like the fact it's a limited run, and there's undoubtedly lost potential with this. But at the end of the day, the games themselves are amazing.
Yeah your right. While I also think that this collection could have been more, it is still looks like a good way to play these games. And not to mention, this is the first time sunshine has been rereleased so that alone holds value.
@@fernandolam6209 I have played mario 64 on a 64 recently. The camera is worse in all stars. Not saying 64 is great but all stars is a downgrade. I think it has to do with the version of the game they used.
The drama with 3D All Stars was that people were so scared that they wouldn’t get a physical copy but they are available everywhere. Nintendo made millions of these.
I'm still laughing at the fact a lot of RU-vidrs were saying, "The physical edition is going to be so hard to find." because the pre-orders sold out, and it's been available literally everywhere and still in stock online since release. People who wanted it physically were able to get it physically. The scalpers basically aren't going to make any massive amounts of income off of their massive stock until April 1st. I wonder if its demand will even be that high right away. They're probably going to have to wait for the people who buy a Switch after March 31st and never got 3D All-Stars. Serves the scalpers right in my opinion.
The Crash comparison isn't exactly 1 to 1. The Crash trilogy were all from the same generation and very iterative on one another. The 3D Marios are far more distinct and remaking each would be a bigger undertaking.
@@dewpotdewdrop Graphics that's could be reused throughout the collection due to how iterative they were . The games also used fixed perspectives that save costs too.
It's a COLLECTION not a REMAKE. That's a whole different thing. The collection takes to consideration people's nostalgia especially in 64 which is why it was mostly left in it's original state. If you wanted a full remake like N. Sane trilogy then that's YOUR fault for wanting something to be something it isn't.
What's all the drama? I preordered it. Got it. And have enjoyed it. I just dint see what's complicated. They said this is what you'll get. And that's what we got. Couldnt be more clear. Why the drama. Zero reason for any theories or anything else.
Exactly some people made a small situation into a big one that's what it was. I'm sure Nintendo could have done more to the game but as people need to see, they have other things to work on.
@Random Polygon We aren't making fun of you, you're the only one here doing that by picking at us for buying a collection. Quite ironic to your statement, eh?
The drama is that you can emulate these games for free at a better quality than what they are in this collection. The drama is that there is nothing in this collection in the form of extras besides a very low effort music player. Think about that for a second. No changes to these 3 games, hardly ANYTHING to improve them, for MARIO, a gaming icon's 35th anniversary. Kirby Dream Collection was also a Nintendo game compilation collection that was LOADED with so much fan service and extras. RARE Replay is $30 for 30 games that ALL have extras. The worst of all though, is the drama is Nintendo's own contradiction. They regularly chastise fans who emulate their games and do DMCA takedowns on fan projects, such as the aforementioned emulations of these games that run better than they do in this collection, and emulators then they turn right around and run their own games on emulators, while not even bothering to fix glitches in the emulation (such as Delfino Plaza lagging in Sunshine when a lot is going on on-screen) that the fan emulations fixed upwards of 10+ years ago. So not only is this collection running off emulation, but their emulation of their OWN PRODUCTS is quite literally years behind the fan emulations. If thats not embarrassing to you then you are clearly the exact type of consumer Nintendo wanted to purchase this product
Gaming has gotten so big and naturally attracted all kinds of different people. The hate culture that has infected the movie industry is now also a big part of gaming/gamers. Enjoy what you love. Don’t let others tell you what to think or play, it’ll only deny you amazing experiences.
@@goatmilk1 I think it’s a bit more difficult to appreciate an opinion when someone hasn’t tried something and only based their opinions on hate culture reviews. If you played it and hated it I suppose fair is fair. Still not really sure how you can “hate” 3 fantastic games though.
@@davidpliskin3330 someone in the comment section explained it better, "it's a collection of good games, but not a good collection of games." It's lazy, bare-bones, yadda yadda yadda, you've already heard this part.
Nintendo could have released this collection as 480p direct emulations, no upgraded textures, no soundtrack feature, and it would have sold about the same.
I agree with companies in the end want the money and that is ok with me if their products are a value enough. But in addition to feedback, money also talks. If we stop buying, they will change how they make games. But buying means we accept the work they do.
It is just like anything in the entertainment field. Watch a few of Ryan George's movie pitch meeting videos...you will start to see a majority of movies make no sense...and well only get made because of "money". Proof: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wkUDe7VgGrU.html
For me Nintendo is mixed. I bought only the ones I like (be it same (i did buy 3d all stars) or new formulas (BOTW)). But others I didn't (mostly because it had bad formula (Paper Mario) or same old formula I don't like anymore (Pokemon)). The one I never buy from anymore is EA games. They do horrible business.
0:20 to clarify, it wasn't that you were crazy to think it might exist, it was that every couple of weeks you'd say "guys, super mario 3D allstars is being announced this week". It was becoming a bit of a "boy who cried wolf" situation
I do find that it was selling out everywhere but now plenty of places seem to have lots of copies which is good for me as I couldn't afford a physical copy until a bit later
The whole emulation thing was pretty stupid, people were complaining about something that in no way affected the game at all and only made it so it was possible to bring more games from these systems to the switch
Actually it does affect my game since they chose to use a emulator for the games I have died countless times due to super Mario 64s trash camera so yea it does affect the game stop defending this
I just dont get it. It's like going to a restaurant and ordering a burger with fries and a coke. Then getting pissed it didnt comr with a chicken sammich too
@@luisreyes1963 right. Nintendo was clear from the start. This is what you get. And it's available this long. All the drama and theories and disappointment has been created by ourselves.
@@davidtownsend6092 Exactly. We only end up disappointing ourselves with making up or theorizing possible outcomes of things and when we don't get that exact outcome that we theorized ourselves we only show how we can get talking REEEEEEEAL quick.
@Random Polygon Jeez I swear it's not like you're so close-minded towards others you can't accept the fact people just want to enjoy things that you may not like.
People calling this compilation the "laziest collection ever", do they not remember Halo: Master Chief Collection and how much of a broken, buggy mesd that game was at launch? Sure, Super Mario 3D All-Stars may be lacking a severe amount of content, and the games were emulated, but at least still functioned beautifully right out of the package just like they did when you originally got them (and in some cases, even better).
It didn't affect me in the slightest. It's 50 at Walmart. That means I paid about 18 after tax for each game, they are all in one place, and I can play them at home or on the go, again, in one place.
I don’t care what anyone says I’m having a lot of fun with this collection. I don’t care that they aren’t remasters because I haven’t played Sunshine and 64 and I don’t think they need to be remastered. And considering games like Madden 21 are sold for 60, this collection is more than worth it. And before Random Polygon says I’m just a fanboy that buys anything Nintendo puts out, that’s not the case. I buy Nintendo games that are fun and this is one of them.
Im glad that sales figures for Mario 3D all stars are doing very well! Hopefully Nintendo does an "all stars" for Zelda and release OoT, MM, and TP for Switch. And hopefully they give the Oracle of Ages/Seasons the same treatment that Link's Awakening got. Skyward Sword remake with hopefully the ability to choose between using a classic controller, and motion controller. Maybe hopefully since its Metroid's 35th anniversary too, we'll get the Prime series trilogy released for Switch also with MP3 given the ability to use a classic controller or motion controls!
That doesn't always work though, for example Ghostbusters 2016 had a lot of it, didn't help it at all because those controversies made old school fans of the franchise not supporting it, even the AVGN boycotted it, everyone talked about it, but barely anyone watched it, it was a big flop. Solo A Star Wars Story is similar, it lost money despite controversy. If the product is actually garbage no one wants controversy will not help.
@@MusouTensei82 At least Solo in this case was a pretty decent Star Wars movie actually, unlike GB (the 2016 reboot) but like Ghostbusters 2016 it was marketed in a horrible way.
I mean I don’t like the controversy, it’s negative. But I have never played galaxy or sunshine. People like me are going to suck it up, hold our noses, and buy it anyway. It’s 2 landmark titles that don’t get released that often. And 64. 64 is okay. Kind of irrelevant, but okay.
@@Zek3nator That is fair... for me the main reason why I didn't buy the title is that I already own all 3 games, and I'm not the kind of person who buys games twice. But for others, it is a good opportunity to explore them, even if I feel like it is slightly overprices (but then all Switch games are)
I think had this collection included Super Mario Galaxy 2 it would have been the icing on the cake, regarding this release overall it's good. I wish Nintendo included a nice book with it or something similar and I wish they offered Gamcube support considering one of the games is a GC title. Oh well, have fun with you Mario Kart live set and BTW i'm glad you're feeling better.
It's not even "limited time" really, considering the amount of these cartridges floating around. Even two years from now, I doubt copies on eBay will be going for much more than $60.
@@davetheimpaler204 hopefully you’re right about it but the fact that a downloadable version is available for a limited time makes absolutely zero sense. It’s artificial exclusivity to create hype and demand during a pandemic when people have cut back on spending due to lower amounts of disposable income. Sealed versions of the cart will be expensive even years later because collectors are willing to pay it. As long as someone’s willing to pay, sellers will charge what they want to charge. Just like the eBay sellers that sell “graded” copies of games hermetically sealed in a plastic case for over $1000. I often wonder how many actually buy them.
@@JeffHochberg I would say the limited digital availability is because Nintendo knows there's more value in these games than just a $50/$60 collection. For example, Super Mario 64 will inevitably be used to push the N64 Switch Online library, most likely next year, and for which they may charge an extra amount for access, on top of the current subscription price.
If Iwata were still alive he would have fought tooth and nail to make 3D All Stars reasonably priced and would have made a much better collection. Modern Nintendo post Iwata just isn't the same as they used to be.
Because millions of copies are being sold. There will be plenty on ebay even in 5 years. I doubt they will be much more than $80 if that. The games that are worth hundreds are ones that are hard to find because they didn't make a ton originally.
As a developer, I can say what they did isn't a lazy port. They just didn't rewrite the games from the ground up and instead built an emulator that allows it to run those 3 games and maps the controls properly. The emulation is actually harder to do than building from the ground up in some respects, but that also means that they can release games on the Switch virtual console a bit easier as well. Which can include games up to the Wii.
I bought it, got like 20 stars in 64, 30 in sunshine, and went to like 5 planets in galaxy and I don't know if I will pick it back up for a long time. Once I started playing them I remembered the games a lot more then I thought I would have so it was hard to push through and replay them.
What's worse is that you're supposed to feel a sense of security and serene but once you replay it you constantly ask yourself:"Damn how did I enjoy these?"
Mario 3d all stars is limited I think because this year until march 31, 2021 is the 35th year of Mario. after march 31, its the 36th year, it doesn't make sense to sell 3d all stars which meant to commemorate the 35th year after march 31.
I don't mind the games not being remakes in general. I just wish they had put a little effort into the controls. I've found Mario in 64 and sunshine can be hard to perform small/sensitive movements. Otherwise, I'm just so happy the games are now on switch
You brought a warm smile of nostalgia to my face when you mentioned NESticle. Takes me back to days of MegaMan 3 on a keyboard, running on my old 486DX66...
My guess is that All-stars is on a limited release because Nintendo is testing the market to see if they’ll be interested in an HD re-release for the Switch Pro
I for one do understand the complaints about 3D All-Stars, but me personally I can careless if the games are emulated or not, it doesn't ruin the experience for me. I'm just happy to finally be able to replay my childhood games on the go.
Yeah I mean like I have my Wii U and my copies of galaxy 1 and two, but that comes with it’s own problems, mainly for me the controller drift on my Wii sucks
@Random Polygon Hey. They did this game so people who cannot use, get, or run those roms on a computer experience what is like to play those games SIMILAR to the roms.
@Random Polygon And what? You constantly yelling and nagging at us apparently what is gonna fix your little issue here? Because really, if you think you're in the right by doing this, you're not. You're only adding to the toxicity of the community by being a close-minded person who can't accept other's opinions on stuff like this. So stop complaining like "yOu iDiOt fAnBoy" because you're not giving direct criticism or solving any problem. You're only adding to your own problems by attacking every Nintendo fan you see. It's like you can never stop because you're so into your own world and mentality.
ppl r complaining that the games were not remade but to me (a young teen) im glad these games r here so i can finally play three of the best games on the switch
I'm glad they weren't remade, that should be its own project. What I'm mad about is that they aren't straight source ports, and that they provided no options for tweaking controls. Some of the lighting graphics on Galaxy being is very off putting.
@@atoomy54 The light around Lumas and the planets in Gateway Galaxy don't lose properly and look terrible. SM64's graphics all load properly, as far as I can tell. Galaxy has the worst graphical issues out of the 3.
Why is there drama, 3 classic Mario games on one PORTABLE system, nothing wrong .... aaaaaaaaaaaand its available everywhere, if you don't buy it before March that is ALL on you, its available, copies everywhere then there is digital
Super Mario 64 still is 4:3, it's 30 fps and has its trash camera. Oh, and it's limited release and don't even get me STARTED on Galaxy 2 absence. Did I mention it's limited release? Oh and it's very barebones, has no new features so you might as well just emulate it, it's limited release, forgot about the limited release thing didn't I?
@@CaptAwesumNo1Zone Either Nintendo put Switches on sale or they stop with the Super Mario 3D All Stars limited release crap, there's NO good reason to do that. I don't see how you can defend it.
Another significant thing to note regarding sales figures in early weeks of Mario 3D all stars sales vs eg. Odyssey is that there are sooooo many more Switches out there now vs when Odyssey was released.
Pokémon Sword and Shield are a weird case. There’s stuff you can tell they put a ton of effort into, like the camping and most of the new Pokémon. But then you have the things you wouldn’t think they would be lazy on but were: story, starters (worst ones of any generation), battle animations. It’s just random what they decided to focus on. But they did introduce appletun so I probably won’t go lower than 8/10.
Digital sales of SM 3D are probably higher than physical because people don’t want to go out because of “real world situations”?? I don’t know a single person that got the physical that actually left their house to buy it. There’s something called online ordering.
Very Basic. 1. Does console power up? CHECK 2. Does image appear on screen? CHECK 3. Does controller work? CHECK 4. RGT85 is happy. DONE Fix aspect ratio, not necessary. Fix controls, you are asking too much. Upgrade graphics, it is fine the way it is. Emulation you say, now you are just being obtuse. What is for dinner? Left-overs and crumbs are good enough.
Disclaimer: this is a general statement not directed at any one specific person. Stop creating a controversy when there isn't one. Nintendo never hinted at this title before release. The rumors were around and people on YT came up with their own conclusions. Nintendo never promised anything other than "what you see is what you get." Don't blame others for your disappointment. It's a bad look. This game is widely available at every retailer. Don't pretend it isn't. If you thought this game was going to be a full "remaster" with new graphics/controls/music/menus/whateverthefuck you should check your expectations and suck it up. Nintendo doesn't do that with their legacy titles. They never have. Just enjoy it (or don't) for what it is.
For the first month-ish of its release, my Walmart was only given 12 physical copies. That’s crazy, and it definitely isn’t “widely available at every retailer”
I’m honestly happy with them, I’m glad I can play these games on the go. I never got the chance to play Sunshine and Galaxy, but 64 was my childhood and the last game I played with my best friend before he passed away. I’m glad they didn’t mess with the games, I’d rather have the original.
I don't know, I feel like there are several types of Gamers, The collector purist May be upset that some things have been altered or changed or emulated. I feel for the most part, That if someone is gaming for the right reasons, "Because They want to play said game" Then they probably already bought this.
If they had made it like the previous Allstars game by rebuilding all the titles from the ground up with new textures, graphics and improved gameplay and sold that as a package and sold this as a "3D Classic" package I think it would have been better.
Personally, I might have bought it had it included Galaxy 2. Even the original Mario All-Stars had both The Lost Levels and Super Mario Bros. 2, despite one of them being the odd one out no matter where it was released. However, with it not being included, I said, "This collection is incompelte, and I already own all of the games anyway. No reason to re-buy them with one missing from the collection."
I get why people don't like Mario 3D All-Stars, but I also get why people like it. For me, I'd much rather play the games in their original format and with original controllers. Because of this I'm actually glad they kept Super Mario 64 unchanged. :D If they included or sold quality 1st party N64 controllers to go along with this I would buy it.
Those SM 3D All-Stars 3 poster set in My Nintendo for 800 platinum points could have been free for those who did the missions but didn’t get the limited edition pins that became unavailable fast.
The only thing about all this that actually annoys me is 1)whenever you give a few reasons why you personally want this game half the time you get shamed for being a “Nintendo fanboy” say what you Will about the game but to shame and discredit people for buying something they want is horrible. 2)every time there is a compilation like this there always that one guy that annoys everyone with the old “just emulate it” dude we know and no one cares. With this compilation instead of 1 out of 100 comments being that it was like 1/50 to 1/10
Random Polygon has been all over the comment section doing that and it’s so annoying. He’s acting like a jerk and saying people will buy anything from Nintendo and then he has the audacity to say he’s open minded. He’s being so toxic.
@@hamidmehrdad5805 Also, when some one called him close-minded, his only defense was "I am open-minded, I game on all platforms." How does that prove anything?!
@@Dragular exactly lol. And if anything he is being close minded towards Nintendo fans. I could say the same thing about Sony fans defending Sony on everything, or Xbox fans during this past generation saying that even though it had no exclusives, it had more power so it was better. So I love how after all of the comments he's made he thinks he can just say he is open minded. I guess some people are just dumb.
They would make so much more money if they change there mind about limited release and say that only digital version will be available after March. The reason I think they are limited releasing it is because of maybe a possible Zelda collection of Metroid or both!
Well one line to sum up is: Nintendo : here is your 35th anniversary game for you. Enjoy. Also Nintendo looking people complain about the game exclusive to Switch: I take what I want and I don't apologize
I'm 30-ish stars into Super Mario Sunshine and haven't figured out why people hate it so much. I think it looks and plays fantastic! I love using FLUDD.
@@ChaoticMushy According to Nintendo's price policies? Definitely, but then again these games would go for say 7 dollars for the 64 game, 15 dollars for a gamecube game and maybe 20 dollars for the wii game so around 42 dollars for all three. So not really cheaper at all.
@@CobourgRailfan oh honey, they ain't cheap at all. Especially since they're considered vintage now. You can't buy N64 games anymore unless it's from a person and they are expensive. The same with Game Cube. You'll be lucky if you can even stumble across a Wii game in stores.
One thing to remember about controversy, it eventually catches up. Avengers may have sold well at the start, but it dropped off a cliff and the player base is leaking. And for a game like that, initial sales mean nothing to them. It's pretty rare to see something get away with the same things people hate it again and again. Pokémon being one of the only ones to come to mind
Well the thing is avengers sucked, here these are three amazing games that many haven’t played all of. The thing is many youtubers would make the loud minority with this because they probably have already played these games multiple times, but most of the general public hasn’t so there is a lot more interest in the game than it seems
The difference is it’s the vocal minority whining and saying to boycott Nintendo. A lot of people are really enjoying these because it’s theee amazing games in one collection. Not every one cares about having remasters. Marvels Avengers on the other hand is a live service game that just sold well because of Avengers and a lot of people hate the game.
I didn't even know about the controversy but I'm glad I have it because I've never had the chance to play Mario Sunshine or Mario Galaxy when I was a lot younger. All we had was a Nintendo 64, a DS and a wii that only had Mario Kart on it. So personally this game is great because I get to replay an old game but enjoy 2 new games.
The camera in SM64 is good. Its just different (since it came out in 1996) and just requires some practice to master. Its not really hard (also use Mario Cam if you want more direct control). And aspect ratio is whatever. 4:3 is how it should be but not having widescreen shouldnt directly affect the experience in any negative way. Nitpicks. Great video though. Not directly talking to you RGT85
The only QoL improvement Super Mario 3D World needs is to fix that "momentum" mechanic where after pressing Y, you have to run a few meters before reaching full speed, that totally broke the game for me on the wii u, it made it so slow I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.
I think the reason backward long jumping isn't in 3D All-stars is because it's an emulator, Billy Mitchel getting the highscore in Donkey Kong counted as cheating because he used emulation. this leads me to believe that speedrunning an emulator of Mario 64 is considered illegal by the speedrunning community guidelines.
It doesn't have the BLJ because it's running the Shindou Edition of Mario 64. Nintendo actually removed the BLJ back in 1997, with a Japanese exclusive version of the game that added rumble. (Shindou means rumble lol)
I dont think it's a cash grab for these reasons. Reason 1:it was rushed for the 35th anniversary so it was not as well made. Reason 2: they didint change the game a lot because I think they were going for just copying it over to switch other than changing some dialogue to fit the game cause I think some people just wanted the actual game with out any changes and they only changed graphics to improve the game with out changing it.
exactly but gamers like him are always whining about all. If they changed Super Mario 64 too much, they would be crying in their videos that it was too different.
Honestly the only thing thing the Mario 35th controversy will do to Nintendo is potentially lower people’s opinion of the company to varying degrees that will differ largely by the individual but that’s all
I'm definitely disappointed in the lack of any effort put into the collection. I got the spyro trilogy for less and that has huge improvements. But on the other hand, these are fun games and I'm enjoying them, so it's a tough situation.
I just wish some people would stop fucking complaining about how it's not like insane Trilogy on Resident Evil spiral people just love to be on BS people want to call this lazy collection so what there's people haven't played these three games before my little brother haven't played these three games he's excite the people who haven't played these games give them a chance Dam WTF I haven't played these games a long time either I'm happy for it
