This game is perfect for someone who hasn’t played at least one of these titles before. This is the first time I get to experience Galaxy and Sunshine. The complaints I hear online seem to come from players who already 100% all of them and yet chose to still buy this compilation. For them they’ll feel like this is a cash grab. For me I’m just thankful
YES! Next year is Zelda’s 35th! And unlike these Mario games, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess have all been remade. Just remake Skyward Sword and release all on Switch next year... MASSIVE COLLECTION and a much more honorable cash grab than Mario 3D All Stars
@@hoochiemoochie89 id love a skyward remake but even if ur taking the lazy way nintendo just bring skyward, oot, mm, tp to the switch so i can get rid of my wii please
Games like Sunshine and Metroid Prime really blew the competition away back in the day. If the GameCube had played DVDs and looked less kiddy it would've been huge.
@Meliodas Dragon Sin of Wrath they’re called warp pipes for a reason. It’s just that for some reason piranhaplants live there. But it’s just games and made by Nintendo, it doesn’t have to make sense. That’s what sets games and movies apart from reality.
Everyone bought a damn copy though didn't they? If you really want it you will get it now. It will never go down in price so why wait? If you can't get it, you don't really want it.
@@Anjin-qg3ie I want it but think that 60 bucks is way overpriced, espacially for a lazy collection. I'd be willing to check out sunshine and galaxy for the first time but not for that amount of money :/ Was planning on getting it on a sale or used for a good deal
@@FreyOdyssey As a man who has been in the games trade since the 80s, ill tell you. You will never get a sale or a good deal. Also if you were to try to buy SMSS for GC right now that game alone would cost you $80 all day. That doesn't include the console for this game and the other two (which also hold decent price tags). Trust me when I say RG is in the minority about his opinion of sunshine. I bought a switxh at launch because they claimed SMSS was coming to switch. It is simply one of the best Mario titles. In my opinion it was the last great mario. I like Galaxy, but I don't love it.
@@Anjin-qg3ie yeah, that's the reason why I never played sunshine. Never grew up with a GC and the short while I owned one I never bought sunshine for that exact reason. But that is pretty much the same reason why I keep my 64DS copy besides childhood memories. I know that Nintendo games hold their value redicoulusly well but a man can dream, can't he? Anyhow still got some time left to think about it before it vanishes from existence
I'm saying I personally only got the collection because super mario 64 and sunshine where on it ion think galaxy all that I dont like the lack of moving my visibility
2:25 "No extra stuff like the history of the developments of some of these games. No extra stuff like the history of the development of these games." Ok we heard you the first time. lol
I like that you left in some mistakes. Makes me kinda want to see a making of video where you show your process for putting together a video. Weirdly enough Sunshine is the game I was most excited to play. I was a kid when I first played it so I didn’t pick up on a lot of the flaws. Like you said it is annoying that you can’t change it the controls are inverted or not in this comp. And once I beat Sunshine I’m gonna play Galaxy for the first time. I’m hype.
@@robertolivares4700 the original camera controls were inverted in mario 64 and sunshine. Controlling Fludd's pitch was also inverted. That's what I'm used to.
I’m out of town and my copy of Mario 3D Allstars is on my desk at home. I’m dying Edit: just played through galaxy and sunshine. Working on 100% all three
This is the type of stuff ppl say when they try to downplay and defend their favorite company. Lets be real, a full on redone remake like what they did crash and spyro, wouldve been a lot better. Imagine a redone (or an enhaced port like ocarina of time on 3ds) Mario 64 running at 60fps and widescreen support. Check out what they did with Ocarina of time port for 3ds. Looks a lot better ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sk6c43tSsRo.html
I think the originals with the orginal graphics should have been digital only and had that a limited time release, meanwhile they should have released a completely remastered version physically and just kept it available. People would have likely purchased the digital old school version and a physical version for that reason. (Them having the ability to experience both.) And then knowing the digital version would be limited they would impulse buy) now they a missing the opportunity of getting continuous sales for new switch owner after March by making the physical limited. Resellers might not make that much profit now as they are still in stores and still available digitally, but they will after March. We are continuiously getting new switch owners. Yet the amount of physical copies out there will not equate to the number of switch owners. Eventually people will starting wanting a copy themselves and there is a lot of people not willing to sell there later because they know they won't be able to get a copy after March. They might just hold onto it for that reason so there be even less used copies in the wild so they would have to buy new from resellers.
I think they should have included mario 64 DS with cleaner, less pixelated graphics and made to fit the switch screen, though maybe not widescreen, and maybe put the map that was on the bottom screen of mario 64 DS in a pause menu maybe or shrink it and put it at the bottom left of the screen maybe how they did mario 64 DS on the wii u whatever that was like, also Super Mario Galaxy 2
Unkn0wn_289 or maybe they should have a ‘64 DS’ option in 64’s main screen where that version is remastered and the original stays the same as we have it today
@Hen metroid prime collection has been leaked for months it and the zelda collection is going to be revealed next year since it's the anniversary for both. I just hope Zelda gets OOT, MM, TP and WW. Only problem is I'm not sure which versions because they have all been updated before. On one hand they'll probably use the original releases for preservation purposes and because of the emulators they built for the mario one. I think for me the best way to do it is OOT 64 with the 3Ds look as an option MM64 same TPHD with classic graphics option (maybe 60fps and higher poly models?) WWHD same
I really think this game was an after thought. Like people were hyping it up and Nintendo was like, crap, we need to slap something together. And this is what we got. To make sure the lackluster compilation sold, they also slapped a timed release on it. I am almost 100% this was never supposed to come out, but once Nintendo fans wouldn't stop talking about it, they saw $$$$
For the 60$ price tag, including Galaxy 2 would have made this more palatable, but they're obviously planning to milk this in the future. Without it, such little effort makes it feel like a cash grab. I have it, but I am not happy with what they did.
You'll love it. It is a divisive game but it's nice to see newcomers appreciate it for what it is. Pro tip though, if you jump and press R you will do a huge fanning spray which will cover huge ground. It's particularly useful in a couple of missions in world 6.
@@unknownbowser1439 you're not wrong there mate. Another helpful advanced move is if you spin with your spray nozzle you'll do a sprinkler move. Also handy for crowd control. Also the fan spray only works with the R button and. It ZR for some reason lol.
Just don’t get some people sometimes. It’s a product, it’s business, if you think it’s a cash grab and you’ll be ripped off then simply don’t buy it. Instead people complain about it being cash grab but also complain they can’t get it, bizarrely self-conflicting. I’ve never played any of these so I’m happy that I can now, just received the physical copy.
Because it's MARIO, their golden boy. You'd think they would put a little more effort into this compilation by upgrading whatever they can (16:9 and 60fps 64, 60fps sunshine) and adding a few extra games (Galaxy 2, 3D Land) , artwork, history, interviews etc. Even Sonic Mega Collection did a better job decades ago. Not to mention the price, if it was $40 I think people would be less angry
Not saying I disagree with the argument, I’d just expect however if the people don’t like what Nintendo did to the games (or didn’t do) then simply don’t buy; so why does it matter then if this is a limited time run or not? In regards to price, as consumer obviously I’d like the games to be as cheap as possible, but €20 for one Mario game (3 games = €60) on Switch (granted it’s emulated port) seems like a pretty good deal especially for people like us who have not played these games before. My guess is, 1st April 2021 onwards you’ll still be able to buy these games but individually at perhaps €25 - 30/game.
Wouldn't it have been awesome is that is game you beat you unlocked the 2d marios like beat 64 and get mario bros, beat sunshine and get mario bros. 2 and then mario bros 3 or just have the 2d allstars be an unlockable
I think what people are not seeming to understand is that when Nintendo presented Mario 35th anniversary, it really sounded and seems like they are going to continue to release Mario related items throughout the year.
I'm pretty sure we all know that. Which is why many of us is questioning the $60 value. I don't care how much the aftermarket value of Mario 64 and Sunshine is, doesn't change the fact that this SHOULD have been $40 since it is in fact a "collection" and not a remaster.
@@SourStrawberrys Or include galaxy 2... it feels incomplete without it. The port was very lazy too, only 30fps on SM64 and Sunshine, no widescreen support on SM64, that emulation bug people are finding in Sunshine, no additional goodies such as behind the scenes... no this is a very lazy put together collection.
When I was younger we couldn't afford games like these and now that I'm older and have kids myself, it's just so awesome having them considering finding the original games for their original consoles for the sake of legitimacy is so expensive. Such a good buy for me! 😁
@@Mqstodon No...I know that and have actually said that to show the value here. Just saying this is nothing. Feeling nostalgic for Suikoden 2? That game is 350 bucks now.
I kind’ve hate the term “cash grab” for this particular title. How is this a cash grab..? It’s 3 of the best Mario games ever made, 3 complete games for 60 dollars in one package! I could see the argument of making small improvements...but at the same time these games were legendary because they were how they were! That’s what made them great to begin with lol.
Because no effort was put into Mario 64. Because Sunshine got a mere touch up. Because Galaxy 2 isnt on it. Because it's for a limited amount of time in order to create artificial demand.
HONESLTY I’m just so happy we’ve got this game I love it I feel I’ve waited for a while for this !!! I personally didn’t mind them not adding anything more.
@Teem Makebeleaf The fact is that Mario sells, and Crash and Spyro needed the $40 price to even compete in the market since they haven't had a good new game in over a decade.
@@ZeroShaneBob exactly, Crash and Spyro were basically dead franchises until their respective remakes came out. They needed to be cheaper to get skeptics in the doors. Same applies to the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 remake.
I was surprised at how GOOD Mario Galaxy looked!! The full screen looked and felt even better! And using the pro controller is surprisingly easy to use.
So, I've never played Sunshine or Galaxy and I have to say this is one of my best purchases of 2020 (gaming related purchases anyway) to experience these 2 titles and relive SM64 which will always be one of the best 3D Platformers.
I never played Sunshine or Mario 64 before, tried them, hated them. Only like Galaxy, reason I bought it. Kind of regret it now. I much prefer other 3D Mario games
Yeah the only people calling this a cash grab are those who already thoroughly played all three games. This is the best game I’ve bought this year and I’m grateful I get a chance to experience Sunshine and Galaxy (same as you) in the best possible quality.
The lack of control options is the biggest disappointment here. In an era where Microsoft has that adaptive controller, we can't even invert controls on Mario.
I've never owned a gamecube and because of a tight budget I had to skip galaxy (1 and 2). Mario 64 is certainly my jam and honestly I probably would've paid $60 for a physical copy even if that was the only thing on it. Easily 10/10 and I can't wait to play more with my kids since we're all seeing sunshine and galaxy together for the first time.
Joseph Batten cus it’s different that’s why a lot of ppl hated about the ppl at the time wanted a successor of SM64 but I love it for being different with the HD visuals looks like a modern game
The only thing to hate about it is that some of the bonus stars are ridiculously hard. They are Yoshi‘s poison river star and corona Mountain as well as the pachinko machine all rely on physics which feel random. Other than that I love this game and have been playing it for hours,
Am I the only one who is glad they aren't completely remade? I finally get to experience 64 and Sunshine (I've played Galaxy and love it) for what they were and feel what others felt. And I'm loving it!
The history of Mario came out on the 25th edition which was on the Wii U. 1) CD was the music from the games and sound effects 2) Book inside the case that gave the full history of Mario
You are lucky to receive the controller covers. We purposely preordered from gamestop to receive the "gifts" but nintendo didn't send even 25% of what they needed to cover the pre orders at the 2 area stores. So the associate at gamestop is going to talk to the nintendo rep and call us if he gets more.
Um, dude, Galaxy, like most Wii games, was also matted to 16:9 if you played it with either the special Wii cables, or on a Wii U. It wasn't only in 4:3.
Nintendo seems to hit home runs (aka Odyssey and BoTW) once in a while and uses their downtime to do things like this. Idk, I think it’s fine to have a year for cash grabs if it’s used to fund the next big gaming projects they’re developing. When Nintendo decides to care, it really shows. They can’t be delivering that kind of dedication in game at all times though, that’d be exhausting
Help: So I’ve finished SMG already exclude the luigi part, haven’t played SM64 but not too interested either, SM sunshine i have on my laptop but haven’t started it yet. Should I still buy this?
They did an okay job. I hate the camera but I used it back in the day and now I can use it again but on the go. My only complaint is sm64 not having borders/widescreen.
@@hughmungus1154 Because Crash and Spyro were failing franchises, so a remake of their first 3 games would bring the franchises back, which it did. Also it doesn't matter if it's emulation. I have 3D All Stars and I've never noticed any emulation problems (like input delay). You just expected too much from a game announced 2 weeks before its launch
I don't think Nintendo actually planned to release this bundle at all. I always presumed they were holding out for a 40th Anniversary edition. I think once the talk ramped up in regards a 35th anniversary, Nintendo thought "Ah why not?" Even the limited release makes sense because this isn't the final form that we'll see these games.
Annnd that’s exactly the type of mentality that allows Nintendo to get away with whatever they do. This whole ..”yeah yeah they did something bad Buttt it’s something good still”. If we don’t hold up to any our criticism with some integrity and only show our weaknesses, then they’ll always get away with bare minimum.
Personally i feel like nintendo shouldve done what the bioshock collection did where you can go to a free roam museum where you can view and read documents on characters and models that didn't make it in the game or history for characters or environments that inspired the developers in making that person or place
It is a cash grab! after 2 days of almost no sleep this game was worth investing in a switch lite back in February when Paper Mario along with this was first rumored. I only played SMG1&2. To highlight, this title did get an HD upgrade which looks fantastic on a small console that is mind boggling exists(coming from a guy who struggled to find light for my game boy as a kid)
Also they gave us what we asked for, we didn't complain on nintendo directs saying "Give us 3D all stars with extra features and concept art etc" Most of us out there have 0 retro games in proper hardware, some of the content creator complaints seems super privileged
This is my first time playing Super Mario Galaxy and WOW this game was worth the purchase alone. Mario 64 and Sunshine were just icing on the cake for me!
2:28 he repeats himself breaking my immersion realizing he is just reading a script and if someone wanted they could make him say something ridiculous like Steve Carrel's anchor character on bruce almighty
I have a feeling that the Mario 3D collection wasn't actually a thing until the rumors themselves started, and once those rumors picked up steam, they threw this together in a couple months.
I think people forget that when they complain about how Nintendo went about doing this horribly, and not doing “enough” that the WHOLE POINT of this is for remembrance. Celebrating 35 years of Mario. I feel that it’s supposed to have the “old feel” If they were going to completely re-do Mario 64 from the ground up, it would definitely be it’s own game.
Exactly. I regret buying this. Hated everything except Galaxy. People that like The other 2 games are basing it on nostalgia cause They are trash. Crash Bandicoot is way better than Mario 64
Something funny is that I found that playing Super Mario Galaxy with the Pro Controller feels a bit awkward so I kind of prefer the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. But I did get used to it. Also it honestly shocks me how many people don't realize that the Wii supports widescreen natively on the console. ALL Nintendo first party games (can't speak for all games) support 480p and widescreen. Since it's an option in the Wii system menu that means every game should support it no problem.
Tyler L how do you skip then? I’m listening right now you can only click the song you want played nothing else, I have a number of physical record albums all of which can skip tracks. A basic music player is extremely easy to code.
I'm also the one who does not get the "hate" on sunshine. I understand a personal opinion. I think Sunshine is propably the most innovative Super Mario game out there with its water tools, funky character and the resort island. Everything about it just plays perfectly. Bought the collection today and it feels good. Sunshine plays fine. However I feel like it has some framerate dips, anyone else noticed? I would have definitely preferred 60fps. Galaxy on the other hand looks absolutely stunning and plays really smooth. Despite the controls that need to get used to. Anyways this is what we got. Hopely nintendo will still push updates for these games. If we had 64 in widescreen and Sunshine running as smooth as Galaxy, it would nail it as a package.
I’ve only played Mario 64, so the fact that I have two titles I haven’t previously played is a plus, but I’m honestly pleased just to have Mario 64 alone, even at 60 bucks.
I think they wanted to show the development of the 3D Mario games over the years. If they remastered them all and gave them all current Switch graphics you wouldn’t see that progression
I have a switch lite and got the physical copy yesterday from Amazon. Honestly imo it's meh. Nintendo really did nothing special here other than worry consumers the games will be gone forever in 6 months. Galaxy is hard to play in handheld mode. 64 is not widescreen and looks its age. And Sunshine is okay but why 30 fps? I don't know tbh I'd rather play Ori Will of the Wisps right now. Overhyped and underdelivered imo.
