Players know the issues, complain about the issues, but will still continue investing in the overpriced product and attending events. Stop it! A simple solution. Yet, something players find difficult to do.

Some TCG card shops, content creators and players livelihood's revolve around this game. We can’t just suggest everyone boycotting Konami products and events without taking into consideration the financial stress we’re putting on those parties not named Konami. Konami is making bank either way through the video game industry, regardless of Yugioh, so I don’t think a boycott would be efficient enough to inspire a significant change.

@Leonardo-ms2nk We know Konami is at fault and tbh they probably don’t care. If we were to boycott Yugioh products / events, it would hurt the TCG shops and community way more than Konami. Konami doesn’t need Yugioh to be lucrative as a business. I don’t know what the solution would be, but we need a better way to voice our complaints without putting certain people within our community through major turmoil. I’m not gonna stop supporting my local game shop because I disagree with Konami’s business practices

You say a large scale boycott wouldn't make any significant change. Well how could you tell that when its never been done before? Dude, you do realize that a large chunk of revenue they make in their digital entertainment comes from YGO, right? What Konami makes from YGO overall is far too significant to toss aside and be like, "oh whatever".
When your top tier decks, are worth more then the Prize pool, of your Regional, YCS, or even Worlds Event, that right there is a major problem, and that goes for any card game.
The biggest problem that I think is with the game is that no one feels incentivized to compete because the prizes are so abysmal that it is not even worth it aside from an invite to nationals or even the world championship getting a switch or a booster box of the current set is not enough to make me want to join a tournament because I can get any of those out of a single paycheck if I wanted to. I’m sure many have thought this, but Konami really needs to stop bullshitting and offer some better form of prizing whether it’s money or something else Konami makes money hand over fist so I know that they can afford it I know that it is Takahashi sensei‘s wishes to not let there be any form of gambling or anything monetary involving the game, but with all due respect to the man, God rest his soul that is what you need in order to get people who are young adults and even teenagers to play. The game is already infamously known as a rich man’s game and on top of that you got people spending income tax level money to build decks. The prizes are seven shades of shit so you really shouldn’t look surprised when players may want to look elsewhere because other TCG’s like Pokémon magic the gathering or even lorcana are offering so much more Yu-Gi-Oh! should not be the odd man out
@@RogueHero yeah I do love this game, but I’m not so much of a sycophant that I won’t point out what issues the game has it’s no secret that a lot of the player base for the game is getting old and the problem is that this game is having a very difficult time trying to get a new generation of players into the game because either the rules are so daunting to learn or the fact that Konami is always trying to pander to Yugi boomers with stuff like dark, magician and blue eyes white dragon that when new players or even returning players get into the game, they come to find out that it is a different beast entirely. Konami really needs to learn how to right the ship Because if they are not careful, this game is going to die a slow and agonizing death. And Konami needs to stop making a lot of these decks so ridiculously expensive when in the OCG it doesn’t even cost you much to make them. I understand that Konami is a business and that they have to make their money like any other, but they can still make money, but make it so that People can readily have access to good cards while I am always happy to see the tins, and even the rarity collection sets where they will make stuff more accessible and even affordable the problem is is that it comes counterbalanced with the fact that certain meta cards will either be banned, powercrept, or just not desired by players.
No, the biggest issue is that the cost of playing the TCG outweighs the benefits of playing in events. Non-cash prizing wouldn't be much of an issue if the cost of playing the TCG wasn't so damn expensive and the incentives for attending wasn't so abysmal. Like, at least have some exclusive event cards for attending. That small thing would make attending a lil more worthwhile.

99% of players CANT even afford the decks to complain about the incentive lmfao that’s not the real issue. The real issue is the OCG, the OCG control everything the tcg releases/does and it’s a huge issue, prize support and tier 0 formats ARE the least of the problems in yugioh lol this is another issue, these “pro” players releasing VIDEOs announcing their quitting or the game is dying, why is this another HUGE issue….. glad you asked well if someone looks up a yugioh video and comes across any of the multiple videos just shit talking the game by all these yugitubers just pushes NEW players away. Hours and hours of studying, an when you finally win. You get your name on a board. An your supposed to be happy?? If they fixed the game, giving everyone a chance to win. Make it more on skill, then i wouldnt care too much on prizing.
I quit the TCG for Lorcana. I get my HERO fix by making a Hercules deck. If I ever do play YGO, I just either play Duel Links or casual YGO, and I actually really want Rush Duel to come out for the US bc HEROES are now in that game. I think Rush Duel is the "reboot" that we all have been saying that Yugioh needs. A fresh start, start simple, and stay simple. The game has become so complicated that no kid is ever gonna get into it. Rush Duel is simple enough to bring in new and younger players.
Pokemon in Japan doesn't do Cash Prizing. Pokemon has two companies TPC (The Pokemon Company) in Japan and other Asian countries and TPCI (The Pokemon Company International) based in California that represents the rest of the world. The issue with Konami is that they are one entity they controls everything both in Japan and the rest of the world but has different rules for both sides as well as treat everything outside of Japan like it is crap. The biggest issue isn't that Konami in the TCG doesn't have cash prizing, but the OCG won't let them be their own entity.
It's not even that players are getting better. The better players were always there. They just don't have much of a spotlight on them because they don't attend hella events throughout a calendar year(for various reasons) and they're not content creators. lol

Competitive Yugioh is a fucking joke. You pay so much money for traveling to top tier events spend 1000’s of dollars on cards, you win some of the biggest events in the game and you come out with maybe $2000 worth of prizing and I’m including the prize card. So yeah it’s just not worth it to go that far in the competitive scene basically just to say you’re good at the game.

They didn't have an issue reaping the benefits of power creep before it literally got out of hand. To me it feels disingenuous, feels like complaining at the moment. Sucks that Jess didn't receive anything for top 8 at WORLDS! But Jess had more than enough time to come out and say something about it. Why wait almost a year? Probably cause Jess's favorite deck got hit and can't compete? You aint the only one.

I started in 2020 (so a horrible meta was always a thing for me) even then, yugioh had a thing, yugioh was my life for almost 4 years, i got depression and yugioh saved me, I even manage to get ALL HERO/Aster and Jaden Cards. And for some reason... I just lefted, one part of me doesnt want to accept it and not to be real, and the other is already done, i might sound exagerate but I felt like a broke up. I wish this change with all my force.
Why doesn’t Konami just use snake eye fiendsmith as a ceiling and make support for all our favorite decks throughout YuGiOhs run to bring them up to that ceiling? It would take time but it would make them a ton of money and ultimately it would be like the original anime where you would have the best swordsoul player or blue eyes deck extra players in the world and it would be all about skill.
I don't have any sympathy for these players. We told them to talk with their wallets 5+ years ago. They ignored the problem so much that it got to this point. Yugioh has been more RNG versus skill due to extreme levels of power creep. Prize support has been an issue for years. The lack of a proper ban list has been an issue for years. Handtraps have been an issue for years. One card combos has also been a problem for years. Generic extra deck monsters have been a serious problem for years. Competitive Yu-Gi-Oh has never been worth the investment, especially now. It looks like all the people who were running their mouth about Yugi boomers are getting priced out of the game with no ROI. If they boycotted years ago, there could have been meaningful change in the game, or you could've saved a bunch of money.
Yeah, the rewards for playing yugioh at a high level aren't worth it. Cards become too expensive to get at that level, then there's traveling costs. I can understand why locals sound more appealing when you get to that point
Bruh i absolutely hate traveling to events because of how crap the prizing is , the main reason i even went to indy was for fun and because i haven't done a big event in forever. I used to live for big tournament season , now i could care less.

I’ve always identified more as a casual player/collector but also I work a job where my off days vary from week to week also I became a dad late last year so it’s not so easy for me today to breakaway for any official yugioh events and I’m not about to go traveling to different cities trying to compete in an event with mediocre or crappy prizing and I am a decent player but odds are I may not Top so well to even get “good” prizes I mostly collect and I just see what’s going on in the ecosystem watching Yugitubers.
My biggest question to the people saying "get good" that still play competitively... What happens when the complaints aren't about the game? I'll say it right now that my issues aren't with tier 0 formats because those are easy to navigate through for me personally. The game itself really isn't an issue most of the time. It's with everything SURROUNDING the game where issues really show their ugly heads. And the most common issue we all know about and honestly the thing that should be fixed is ASAP prize support. What motivation is there to go to an event if a switch is all you get. you can get a switch stupidly fast with most jobs. There needs to be a change in that department but I've stepped back entirely from modern Yugioh and play old formats and Domain because at least that's either the times I really liked Yugioh or just a better version of the current game. At the end of the day I think most of the "old guard" players like myself have finally started saying "enough is enough, Konami. If you won't care about your game then neither will we.". And that's the way bigger overarching issue that Konami is going to need to deal with. Because once official Yugioh stuff is out of people's habits and rituals... Good effing luck getting them back.

I'm an old school player (30s), and I've been far away from the game for a while. The game got too fast and combo heavy for me, and I like the more chess-like style early on. Even the mobile games just move too fast for me to enjoy. I know I sound like a dinosaur, but it's just not the game I grew up with. If you like the modern game, enjoy it for sure, but it just made me obsolete and I just naturally left. So, I can't blame players for leaving.
If prizing is improved without addressing tcg printing structure would it become more expensive to play competitively? my thinking is that if prizing becomes valued and that's the thing people are playing for /coming into back into the game for then the demand for already scarce and pricy cards would get worse, and people would be willing to pay that if prizing is something that now covers the cost of those cards or more (considering people already pay hundreds to 1k+ decks in current game) . Card availability would need to be something fixed in tcg at the same time or i could see the secondary market going more crazy on meta stuff than it is in the current state of tcg. This is without taking into consideration that alt formats get better support and attendance or something crazy happens and there's a huge power reset that lets older or weaker decks find their way into the competitive circuit.

Honestly, its a card game and despite ygo being a popular card game, is still niche. Its meant to be played for fun, you cant go into it expecting to make a living, or make money. If you do then youre only setting yourself up for failure and disappointment. Side note, the competitive players are the reason why decks are as expensive as they are. You cant run the market then go on to complain about it being too much.

Pokémon doesn’t give out cash prizes they pay for school, magic is the only game with actual cash prizes and you must then follow sec guidelines and be very careful because if you have lottery packs or short prints then that would be seen as lottery packs, thus the huge issue with adding cash prizes, people could sue due to not opening certain cards and complaining that it’s unfair, there’s a lot of crap Konami would have to deal with including the SEC. I’d say after Pendulums, it’s been a downward slope, a very slow downward slope for Yugioh, I’ve been active in Yugioh since 2009 but since the pendulum era, the power creep has been getting out of control, where these expensive decks was popping and 1/2 sets later, the prices just drop because a new deck just crushes the previous top decks to obscurity. Yugioh has just become a massive money pit and you’re just spending and spending to keep up with the meta, with no ROI on prizing. Players are getting older and it’s just makes no logical sense to spend 1000$ of dollars just to possibly win a deck box or a Nintendo Switch. Why does Konami think that it’s kids playing this game to give them kid prizes? Kids mostly do not play this game, at least not without parents with them at locals and I see parents who grew up with the game is looking at the landscape as too expensive. Most players are high school/college kids at best. Who’s spending almost 2000$ plus of dollars on cardboard anymore? Not with this economy! And how Konami treats the OCG players financially is night and day compared to the TCG. Cards are so much easier to get without breaking your wallet in Japan. That’s NOT the case in America/Europe etc. They purposely make cards harder with higher rarity to get which makes players spend even more money to buy more boxes. Thats too disingenuous for me to want to support a company like that anymore.
I don’t blame people from leaving the game. I resent left as well about a year ago as well. I been playing since Yugioh first started and loved it. I don’t have a problem with the meta at all I can top with a stun desk a $10 deck. What I have a problem with is the prizes is not good and with people who already have there invites. Konami needs to make the game more interesting with better prizes and also stop those people who already have there invites from play at regionals to give others a chance who don’t have invites to try and get it. I’m not sure if I would come back I’m still thinking about it others have told me to try one piece instead.

People have little self control then blame a card game. These same people get pissed about reprints for budget bling as well. As the game goes on , it gets stronger. Interactions will have to be able to keep up. Top players doing well lose to people who now have access to those cards. Top players brain don't change with the game.

Change the Switch to PS5s , Pay for peoples trips to the next Event for Top 16 of YCS along with Cases of the new product, give the playmat & A half of case of the new product and A switch for top 32
I just play ygopro not to deal with the financial aspect of the game. Buying a playset of a card only for it to be banned, limited, or power creep. The incentive to buy physical cards has been long gone for me.

I get that prize support could be better. But like let’s be completely honest here. If you’re playing yugioh because you’re expecting to make a profit off of winning an event, then you kinda need a reality check. I play Warhammer and the prize support in that is very very low, and the cost of entry and time required to compete is muuuuuuuch higher than card games. The cost of travel is higher because of instead of a small box of cards you’re traveling with fragile minis. And I really hate the argument that “oh well the good players didn’t top.” You should be EXCITED about that. That’s a GOOD thing. If you’re gonna complain that the top players aren’t topping, then you’re also saying that you don’t want to see new blood flourish. It’s ok to be washed up, but don’t blame the game on a low performance. You’re all playing the same game. Again, prize support could be better, but if you’re quitting because of prize support then it just sounds like someone crying that they win but don’t feel like they win enough. MOST people who attend the tournaments ARE NOT GETTING PRIZE SUPPORT.
People still attend the events, spend thousands of dollars on decks even though the prizing has always been terrible. Nothing will change 😅 if Konami really wanted this to change, that would’ve been done ages ago.
Honestly, "Konami" could do at least $10k worth of prizes for top 4 at a YCS & Nats. Give players gaming PCs, expense-paid vacation packages, paid scholarships, exclusive alternate art cards, invites to "Konami" headquarters w/ meet & greets with the voice actors of the anime. There's so much they could do without implementing cash prizing. It's unfortunate they don't seem willing to try alternatives. Commemorating Ulti-Cannahawk no longer on the F & L list. 🐦 ⚡️
I think everyone just realizes its just a business at some point and its very lucrative for the company. They capitalized on toxic gameplay more and more over the years and have warped the game into just win fast no matter how dishonorably. The player base has evolved to become more toxic because of it too.
I been playing yugioh since 2012, competitive scene on and off but the past 3 years it felt so sluggish. I went on to play digimon, while Bandai is known to be iffy as a company but their overall tcg experience is hella better. The community in general is better, the card art is better, the prizing isn’t like one piece but it better than yugioh. Also aftermarket is better than yugioh, it was a easy move but yugioh still has a spot in my heart.
Switched to mtg commander format like a 1 or 2 ago and have not looked at yugioh. Yugioh gave me no freedom at all and started getting so dull, casual and competitive.
The hard work grind just isnt worth the small return even if you did get 1st or 2nd. Honestly as a yugi boomer at the point just looking at tge games progress through a spectators window... With LGS's fading away from YGO unless thier open and run buy dedicated YGO fans... Big box stores and gamestop having about little to none in product... It makes me a small time causal not even want to invest in even cheap stuff.
Konami could just print exclusive rare cards and give to the winner for collectors to bid on not a ugly vanilla monster. Konami needs to give scholarships and cover travel, hotel and food tbh Konami has a large of amount of money not just from yugioh
I’m not a yugioh player but from the outside looking in it seems to be the 2 biggest issues yugioh face are and I’m not gonna mention how y’all dont get new players because that’s kinda a solvable problems 1.) yall dont get paid for winning…..like i get the guy who made yugioh didnt agree with that sentiment over a card game but for the players they give their time money and even emotions to this game to get nothing in return for being a top player but prizes and merch merch dont pay the bills gang 2.) the english side of the TCG feels like it’s ran by who has the biggest wallet like from meta staples to incoming boss monsters like for a game that doesn’t give cash prizes this game isn’t cheap on the English side yall get screwed on rares while the Japanese side gets leeway and is relatively cheap
ngl i would be upset to if you made it all the way to top 8 and they don't even give consolation prizes for their top players. it does feel more rewarding at locals at least you'll get a card pack for entering and if you win 3rd, 2nd, or 1st usually get something for you playing and getting that far.
Every card game has chance when it comes to opening hands other than that YGO is one of the most consistent tcgs. If you really want to play a tcg that is heavy on luck play cardfight vanguard.

I don’t care that Jess is Trans, My personal gripe with Jess is that he has self identified as the first female ycs champion which is extremely disrespectful to all woman and completely inaccurate. I know my opinions are extremely frowned upon within the Yugioh community and I’m ok with that. Regarding the video now, the only legitimate reason for Jess to quit out of all his explanations to me were the fact that cash prizing isn’t apart of the game while we spend thousands of dollars on this game. I think it’s extremely disrespectful for people to say that the format is the reason “Top” players aren’t topping as often. That is illegitimizing other players hard work and dedication to the game. There are players that are great, but don’t have the opportunity to attend events as often as “pros” because they have a family or a real life job.

Im sorry but its the competitive players fault theyre not happy. Its their fault theyre competitive. You guys spend hundreds in not only cards but traveling costs and hotels and food to go to events for a sick sense of devotion to a game that you guys always end up hating anyways. Competitive is the reason card prices are high its the reason prizes are trash because if everyone decided not to spend 300 dollars on just 3 cards konami would be forced to make a change. You guys still go to events just to win a playmat a deck box and maybe a switch. You guys are accepting the kick in the teeth you cant complain about it now unless you actually just stop playing but you guys have let it go on too long
