This song came out at the tail end of the hair-metal era, in 1990. "Fly to the Angels" was off Slaughter's debut album, which ROCKED. "Up All Night" and "Spend My Life" were also awesome tracks off that album. They kind of petered out after grunge music took over the airwaves, but there's no denying Mark Slaughter (yes, that was his real name) had an incredible voice!

The singer was asked about the origins of the Slaughter song “Fly To The Angels” to which he stated: “That song was written about a girlfriend who I went to high school with. I remember I came back from touring and couldn’t get a hold of her. So I asked a friend and he told me he hadn’t seen her. The next thing I know, he calls me back with the news that she had passed away and the funeral was the next day. It was one of those surreal moments. I went to her funeral and it inspired me to write a song about letting go. There’s a real sense of composure in going through those life events that I’m always very conscious of in my music. Seeing what it does for other people is why I continue to write.”

One of the greatest stories I can never forget about this band. I was driving to school I believe it was my senior year. It took roughly 30 minutes to get there. Dj for one of the radio stations is taking morning request, opens up the line. Guy request Slaughter says he was at the concert a couple of nights earlier and then ended up running into slaughter at like an IHOP. Told about how Slaughter came over to his house and jammed at his house until the early morning and were really nice people. The DJ basically calls the guy a liar and treats him like an ass. Couple songs later, the Dj comes on and says he wanted to apologize to the previous caller, they have Mark Slaughter on the line. They patch him in so he is on air. He then corroborates events of the evening. Tells the DJ thank you for his time, thanks his fans, thanks the guy that let him hang at his house.

My dad died on Tuesday, the 3rd of January 2023. My birthday was on the 5th. This was my first dad-less birthday. I turned 52. He took me to my first concert in 1978. It was The Village People. He made up for it and took me to see Ozzy and Motley Crue in 1984. I still have the stubs. $12.50 for Ozzy and Motley Crue. You can't park in Nashville for that now. He drove through a snow storm in 1984 to take me to see KISS for the first time. Krokus opened for them and the snow was so bad it messed up the microphones. It took us 3 hours to get home from Nashville and it's only 45 miles from home. I saw KISS in 1996 and it was $2500. I got a private booth with 16 tickets for my friends. That was my 25th birthday present.

Slaughter was named after vocalist/guitarist Mark Slaughter... they debuted in 1990 w/ this album 'Stick it to ya' which became a 2X platinum success (2 million copies sold) in the US... Their 2nd album 'The wild life' went gold (half million sold) in 1992. Unfortunately, the 90's scene brought the band's commercial fortunes down by 1995. Tragedy struck in 1998 when Slaughter's guitarist Tim Kelly was killed in a car crash in 1998. Mark Slaughter was the 2nd vocalist in the 80's band Vinnie Vincent Invasion, recorded the 2nd album 'All systems go'... Vinnie Vincent was the lead guitarist of Kiss between 1982 and 1983, contributing to the albums 'Creatures of the night' and 'Lick it up'... but he was fired by 1984. He formed his own band Vinnie Vincent Invasion w/ bassist Dana Strum and debuted in 1986. By 1989, Vinnie Vincent's erratic behavior got his band dropped by their label, but Mark Slaughter & Dana Strum got an offer to carry on a new band without him... Thus, Slaughter was formed w/ guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias... their 1st album was a success w/ MTV airing the singles 'Up all night'... 'Mad about you' ... 'Fly to the angels'... Their second album went gold in 1992 w/ the singles 'Days gone by' ... 'The wild life'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥Unfortunately for Slaughter, their label folded soon after, and the 90's scene treated 80's hard rock bands w/ scorn. Signing to a minor label, Slaughter returned w/ the albums 'Fear no evil' (1995) and 'Revolution' (1997)... The songs "Searchin' " ... "Heaven it cries" ... 'Get used to it' ... 'American pie'... were some of Slaughter's best. But record sales were not on their side... Guitarist Jeff Blando joined Slaughter after the tragic death of guitarist Tim Kelly 😪🤘A live album 'Eternal live' was released w/ Tim Kelly on guitar. Slaughter released their last album 'Back to reality' in 1999... The band tours often, but no new music has been released since... drummer Blas Elias has performed w/ Blue Man Group, Trans Siberian Orchestra. Mark Slaughter has 2 solo albums released recently. Dana Strum and Jeff Blando have been touring w/ Vince Neil (Motley Crue) as his solo band.

Agree with both of you,, my wife and I look forward to every new video,, the world definitely needs more people like this raising future leaders, athlete's, doctor's, technicians, teachers,, I really wish I could take them back in time to show them how fun it was to show up at a show with 25K strangers that bonded and sang the songs with each other before, during, and after a concert, we may have been searched going in,, mainly for drugs, alcohol, or camera's,, but they really weren't looking for weapons,, probably one of the last of the arena hair bands to appear and they brought it live,, some friends in a band in Chicago(Joker)won a local radio contest, beating out Enuff Z'nuff to open for Slaughter at the Vic Theatre. What a great time.

This is one of my all time fave songs. I know I say that a lot but it's true for all the reasons mentioned.. Love reactions like this to my era of music. It was so great. I am glad you're enjoying it! I saw them in concert with Damn Yankees and and Jackyl. I pad for tickets for my birthday and then told my boyfriend we were going.. He'd forgotten. The next year he paid for 49 cent hamburgers in McDonalds drive thru. Yippee. This is why 80s rock was so amazing . It could lift you and make you love it because of all the elements and styles of the era that were amazing! So much good music. Greatest era of music ever.

I saw Slaughter when they opened for Warrant. They were a good opening band. Pink has a song Who Knew that she wrote for a friend of hers that passed from an overdose. There's a part in the song if you watch her song live that she always looks up like she's singing to him.

This song was written about His late Girlfriend Cindy. She passed away while He was on tour. He had came off the road to find out about Her Death. It’s very very very sad. At least that’s what I was told was back when this Album came out in 1990.

I just watched an interview with mark slaughter and cindy was a girl he dated in high school that he wanted to reconnect with after coming back from being on the road only to find out she had died and her funeral was the next day, so what you heard is pretty much true. He said it felt like the song almost wrote itself, he went into the service and there were roses everywhere and he had been thinking about her and that is when the lines came to him, fly to the angels, flowers bloom in your name.

This was the VERY END of this kinda music. 1991 was already pushing it. As soon as Nirvana and Pearl Jam hit later that year, this music style was flying to the angels lol. Usually music slowly morphs into the next thing, but this time it was 2 completely different kinds of music that came from different worlds and it was an abrupt change. Mr Bigs " to be with you" in early 92 was the very last song of this sort and I think that only slipped through because of the MTV "unplugged" concerts, where the focus was on normally-electric bands playing acoustic. Unplugged was huge and encompassed all kinds of artists
