Fun and not so fun Facts: Fun: To help off set production costs, the Shinden plane replica was donated to the Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum after filming. The museum agreed to fund the building of the replica. Only two prototypes of the actual plane were ever built, as a response to the B-29 bombers, and the only surviving one is on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. Not so fun: The black rain was radioactive ash being kicked up into the clouds and rained back down.

In a recent interview with director Takashi Yamazaki, he was asked if Godzilla Minus One (2023) cost $15 million to make. Takashi replied that he wished the budget was that high (although he declined to reveal the exact number). Given Shin Godzilla (2016) cost $8.3 million in the 2010s, I suspect Takashi was given a budget of $10 million but he ran slightly over - hence an estimate of under $12 million.

What's especially odd about all this is that the Heisei and Millennium Godzilla movies cost on average $10-13 million a piece ("Final Wars" cost $18 million, but none of it's onscreen).

The first time actually seeing the effect of Godzilla's atomic breath in Ginza was unlike anything I'd ever seen, especially in the cinema. It's amazing that a movie with about a 12 million dollar budget won the Academy award for Best Visual Effects.
@TahiriVeila13ABY
@TahiriVeila13ABY 3 месяца назад
It's Best Visual Effects, not an award for the most expensive. Although the award often does go to effects from high budgets films, the higher the budget you have the more things you can do. A couple of examples for lower budget movies doing well in this category; District 9 had a 30 million dollar budget, it didn't win but it was nominated. Ex Machina had a 15 million dollar budget and won in 2015. You see so much bad CGI in these movies with GIANT budgets because studios don't spend enough money for VFX when compared to the amount of shots (and complexity) they demand. They give insane deadlines, scrap entire shots, add and add more shots, and are constantly moving the goalposts on the VFX houses and their atrists. Being a VFX artist for things like Marvel/Disney/WB's/Netflix etc. has to be super stressful and not much fun.

People other than Japanese who saw this movie were probably surprised, right? Why does a Godzilla movie, which is supposed to be a fun monster movie, make me cry? and. In fact, the Japanese original Godzilla has had many variations over its 70-year history, and some of them even have plots similar to those in the Monsterverse. Recommended ones are Godzilla (1954), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), and Godzilla Final Wars. , Mechagodzilla vs. Godzilla, etc., I think are very interesting.

It's rare to find a moving story in a monster movie. The American monsterverse Godzilla films try to incorporate the human element in a moving way. By comparison to this film, they fail miserably. This is the best monster film to incorporate the human element. Or is it the other way around? A good human story that incorporates the monster element. At any rate, this was a touching film about redemption. It highlighted PTSD. An anti-war film of civilians coming together as one without the aid of the government. It was a story of loss and love. An empty heart and then a full heart. A story of family unrelated by blood. Can't wait for part 2! -OG

Amazing that Godzilla Minus One (2023) was made for under $12 million - just 1/13 of the budget of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024). Godzilla Minus One won 8 Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and 1 US Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects). Suggestion. Watch Shin Godzilla (2016). The movie highlighted the (government’s) bureaucratic failures in dealing with the triple disasters (earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor meltdown) in 2011. Shin Godzilla won 7 Japanese Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director). The American Monsterverse Godzilla is like a juicy hamburger while the recent Japanese Toho Godzilla is like a gourmet steak - both are “delicious” depending on your mood.

@@chrischreative2245naw your tripping, I have yet to find anything that says it cost as much on then price range you said the only answers I have seen was 15 million, 10 million and 10-12 million. You also have to realize why this movie was "cheap" is due to the director, yamazaki, also being the VFX director so he was able to monitor and keep the effect cost minimal. You also have to consider that that there is no RDJ, Samuel jackson or any big Hollywood actors that charge hundreds of thousands to millions just to work on a movie so that definitely helped, I mean there is an ongoing joke in the godzilla community that the 10 million itself was used to hire godzilla. Another note is that its not like John Williams composed the score so that helped a bit in the budget To follow up on your Japan worth ethics, yeah thats true and considering they only had 35 vfx artists its insane thinking back on how they did this but I doubt they are getting the MAPPA treatment and tweeting they want to off themselves, heck maybe most of them loved working on the movie considering Godzilla is Japan's pride and joy which would lead people to assume that its probably a great honor to work on something that has had a big of an impact that godzilla has

Really good "monster movies" are about more than "monsters." This film is about War trauma, guilt, shame, and over coming feeling inadequate and worthless. The importance of staying alive. "King Kong" is really a tragedy about greed and animal abuse. A monster just destroying things isn't enough to make a great film all by itself.

Opening scene is of Japans venerable Zero fighter plane. Landing on the fictional Odo island, home of the Japanese Monster "Gojira". The premise of the movie is the survivors of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing of March 10th, 1945". Mankind's worst, more casualties & lost in history to the Hiroshima Bomb. A new "Yankee Weapon" to the tune of 300 long range B29 Bombers & new Incendiary bomb; Napalm. Developed to rain fire on the civilians of Tokyo. "Tokyo's Black Market" scenes with it's vendors, prostitutes & hustlers, that introduced Noriko & Akiko to Koichi is brilliant. The date March 1946, it's raining, marking the 1 year anniversary of the "Tokyo Fire Bombing". Ironically Koichi is drenched in rain water and not fire. As he shares good news of finding steady work. Another date is the sinking of the "Takao". It's sudden bombing of Godzilla is ironic, as the "Takao" was involved in the surprise attack of Pearl Harbor. On March 10th, 2024 Takashi Yamazaki & crew is awarded the Oscar in Hollywood California. Takashi Yazaki tells a great Japanese post WWII story using the great Japanese fictional monster "Gojira", that the world wouldn't be interested in anyway. Harley Davidson, Koichi's "Black Market" Motorcycle, and the Japanese Imperial Army was a surprise discovery. As well as many others, which are factual. The last line, Noriko looks to the side of the camera, saying "Is your war.....now finally over?" I read that in Japan after the movie, people applauded.

Regarding the G-cells in Noriko. Given the extensive trauma she sustained in the blast, she should have been reduced to jello but looked remarkably well except for the left eye patch. If she would have been a hybrid, her regenerated parts would look more Godzilla-like, but she looked like herself. The cells creeping up her neck were on the same side of her damaged left eye which suggest they would heal that remaining damage. I suggest that G-cells only have regenerative powers but not create a hybrid organism like Biollante. Also some of the 30,000 injured people may also have undergone regeneration

Tachibana (the Mechanic) was also living with his guilt I guess. His mission in the war was to fix planes for kamikaze pilots, meaning that they fix planes so the boys could kill themselves ‘successfully’. He must have sent many boys to the sky just to kill themselves. By telling Koichi to live, he also had to end his war. Kamikaze pilots were often unexperienced young men, very often minors. We can assume that Koichi at 1945 was 18-19 years old at most. it makes the story even more tragic. he might have signed up for it, but there was actually no choice. Japan at the wartime was like a huge cult, and people were brainwashed. it must be a huge struggle to get out of it after the war.

I love the foreshadowing in this film. The dead radiated deep sea fish rising to the surface too fast that their stomachs explode out of their mouths due to the rapid pressure changes. They attempt to do the same thing to Godzilla by using the force of nature against him where tanks and battleships seemingly fail. But Godzilla is also a force of nature. Born of nuclear energy. He is the unknown element. -OG

This one has the best human interest story of all the Godzilla movies, IMO. We get a modern examination of the Kamikaze mindset through the life journey of two men and their evolving viewpoint (pilot Koichi Shikishima & mechanic Sosaku Tachibana). Noriko was infected with Godzilla Cells [G-cells] (the black mark on her neck) which gave her his regenerative power. *SOME FYI:* - Godzilla has an internal controllable air bladder for buoyancy that makes him "appear to stand on water" when fully used. - Godzilla is a prehistoric monster awakened, mutated, and empowered by nuclear radiation. Godzilla is a symbol of the devastating consequences of nuclear war. He is a force of nature with atomic breath. He always had remarkable regenerative powers. - There are several incarnations of Godzilla and this one reflects the original. I prefer Godzilla like this - his original concept (a force of nature) over some other incarnations in other movies (an Anti-Hero or even a "protective buddy" to humanity).

I've seen a number of these reactions and they all comment on how in the opening scene where Godzilla attacks the group on Odo island how he picks up the men and flings them rather than eating them. Toho has a strict rule whereby Godzilla must never be shown eating humans. This goes for the American versions as well. So in this scene, that is why he flings them.

5,255 Views + Mine? (Including min) 🤔😎 Thumb Up #381! 🖖 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: I missed something during my absence because I don't know why your channel has a new name. 🤷‍♂️. I love the new set! ❤ "28 Days Later" is the zombie movie, right? 🤔 "28 Days" is the movie that has Sandra Bullock's trading in her illegal drug addiction for an addiction to cigarettes, right? 🤔 The mystery fish! My guess is that Godzilla was chasing his typical prey, and the fish killed themselves as they swam beyond their margin of safety. In the beginning he found the island and was probably curious, when the searchlight startled him! The "Godzilla × Kong" movie and now this movie, both have directors who were inspired by their cats when directing the creature movements! 😼😹 The named warships of various types and classes, were based on the real ones! Ditto the aircraft! ("Wikipedia" software believes in "sentence fragments" and doesn't approve of them having periods. So I've gotten used to exclamation points which are accepted by that software and this software. I'm not that excited.) I haven't seen every "Toho" monster movie, but of the ones that I have seen, this is my new favorite! I wasn't aware of it really existing until it was on "Netflix" though. The stuff on her skin was a part of him, and it embedded in her enough to help her regeneration healing. Also, apparently that was Godzilla's heart regenerating, not his brain. Hmm. 🤔

I thought -1 was named because it takes place earlier than the OG movie did...not a prequel per se, but all the other movies, 1954 on, go forward in time. G-1 starts in 1945. Bikini atoll nuclear tests are always referenced ("Bikini Atoll, a small coral reef in the Pacific Ocean, was the site of a series of nuclear tests conducted by the United States between 1946 and 1958. The tests were part of the US nuclear testing program, which aimed to develop and test nuclear weapons.") and instead of mutating an iguana or the like, Godzilla of -1 is already a kaiju beforehand, albeit a minor, isolated legend until mutated from nuclear fire. Pushing it back in time was pretty brilliant, the period piece aspect was vital to this story

Godzilla is a good lad or lass, depending how you look at it. Evil people made him a monster.

この作品の良さは、人間ドラマを中心にしているからですよ。共感したくなるから。ただのモンスター映画じゃない。

the reporters on the roof is exactly the same scene that was in the original 1954 Godzilla. The actor playing the lead reporter is actyally the grandson of the actor who played the exact same part in 1954.

Sorry for what i will say Its awesome you have your mom with you. It's something i can't do anymore My mom died 7-15-2015 she was 72 I am 59 now. My wife died January 20 2017. She was only 47 24 and a half years married. A single dad, a kid of 11 abd her older sister in her 20s I had to sign a DNR..every time she crashed, bring her back was causing massive damage inside. Me , my oldest and my 2 nieces stood ready for a long night. I was standing at her side. Watching the monitors.. she was already gone. She was only at 62 % 02 At 9:30pm i heard my mom. Let her go Len, i am here waiting with Margret ( my moms sister who died 2 days after we were married , July 10th 1992 we were married. Aunti waited to pass on july 14 1992? Then at 9:35pm she crashed again. They rushed in and started pumping drugs into her. No CPR My mom said. Its time , let her go Len we are here. I told them to stop, let her go.. A very odd calm settled in. We stayed for a while. Cherish these moments... With your mom and each other

Best one ever! Not your typical Godzilla movie. Really surprised me. How does one get infected with G-cells? How did that happen to Noriko in the first place?
@Sh1znitz

I'm thinking maybe her opened wound was touching godzillas flesh, and the cells reacted to healing damaged tissue. What if part 2 she has a close spiritual link to godzilla having his cells in her body. I think in part 2, she will truly have to die. Flesh comes off godzilla when the tanks opened fire in the city.

I think it was because of the radioactive effects of the shockwave. It's likely going to be a representation of radiation sickness from the atomic bombs dropped on Japan that carried on even after the war ended.

The injection seat was built with the plane. It was a german plane!

No, it was a Japanese designed airframe. The ultimate plan was to add a German designed jet engine to it, but the war ended before that could happen.

Its a history base fact Japanese made plane called Shinden in late WW2. It ddnt see any action cause the war ended. The original was not built with ejection seat but it was just added in the movie.

35:54 Mark! Ladies, hi! 🖖 This posted comment is for the benefit of any comparing the movie budgets as people have done at other channels. Ahem. Quote - How much is 1$ US in yen? 157.4350693 JPY 1 USD = 157.4350693 JPY Jun 15, 2024 05:09 UTC The currency converter below is easy to use, and the currency rates are updated frequently. This is very much needed given the extreme volatility in global currencies lately.

gota comment, he was a kamikaze pilot--- he was not a coward, he was a brave man who had a moment of sanity. THe movie was about a society that had traded away peoples; lives cheaply realizing they had to fight not to the death, but to fight to live.
