A dear friend who is terrified of flying was helped by a class that focused on how a plane worked, and what each sound and sight meant: "This whine is the engines spooling up, that thump is the landing gear retracting, those are the flaps retracting", etc. She said understanding what all the noises and vibrations meant helped her anxiety.

My aunt was terrified of flying too, but she loved to travel. And there were places she couldn't get to without flying. In the 1960s (a different world of course) she would pack herself a thermos full of daqueris whenever she would fly. She'd get a bit buzzed before takeoff. Worked for her.

In other words, "how dare anyone be able to afford to fly in business or first class? Everyone should fly the same class." Thank you for this. I was very worried to see no masks and no distancing. When the DTW metro area is being hit so hard by COVID, and to see people being cavalier, it made me a little angry. (Yes, I should have seen the line in the description too, but I'm glad I saw this comment first.) But in the end, the video takes me back to a happier time

@@downtownblue the social distancing was put in place due to people coughing without covering their mouths and before the mask mandates. From my experience working with covid patients over the last year, I’ve learned that the social distancing part is for show only. I’ve been practically face to face with a coughing covid patient while listening to their lungs and never caught the virus. A mask is all you need if your around a person who doesn’t cover their mouths when coughing.

Wow! Can't thank you enough for sharing this. Taking a similar flight in Delta One from Boston to London. This is the best video I've seen that truly helped me understand the experience. I, too, am an incredibly nervous flyer (have a chemical imbalance that keeps me in fight or flight mode most of the day anyway but flying adds another level of anxiety, as does the claustrophobia of economy. Went first/business in 2016 and haven't looked back!) and this video really helped me relax and "look forward" to the flight. I wish I could give you good advice for flying over water - I hate that, too. I just use alcohol (lots and lots of alcohol starting in the Sky Club lounge - fortunately, I'm a happy/relaxed/keep to myself drunk) and then try to sleep/pass out for the majority of the flight. Again, great video! Feeling so much more relaxed about my upcoming journey.

I am a little biased, but for all the hate that many hub airports get (unless it’s Changi) the DTW McNamara terminal when it opened really felt like an artwork ahead of its time. Clean, beautiful, and well kept terminal, easy to navigate, in-and-out customs, and nice views of the planes - all while being a hub. Also my favorite plane by looks is probably the 787. But of ones I have flown, probably the 777 or 737.

Tomorrow I am flying from LAX to ATL on a Delta A350 for the first time in Delta One! Seat 3C! It was either 3C, 9B or 1A. I. Chose 3C because the others were right next to the bathroom. I am so so excited! :D I am going to surprise my mom for mothers day! She just also had a surgery. I know she will be so excited! I love Delta. I have been flying with them my entire life! Thanks for the awesome video!

@@luxurytravelexpert I landed today in the ATL. I spent nearly 4 hours in 3C Delta One Suite! GAME CHANGER!!!! I feel so spoiled now!!!! I wont even waste my money on first class if it's not on an A321 Neo, B757-200, or a Delta A350 Delta One Suite! It's just flat out not worth it if it's not those! It was the most comfortable, quality, and enjoyable flight experience of my entire life - and I've been on hundreds of flights! There was so much space and the food was delicious! The flight attendants walked through every few minutes and spoiled everyone with their service! I was able to adjust my chair in various settings and I had no trouble passing out like a light the second I laid back when I put it into full bed mode! 11/10 recommend!

I flew Delta One in November 2018 and it was excellent from MSP to AMS. The lounge seat service and flight were excellent and I am a very nervous flyer. These videos helped me to handle a lot of those nerves as well as some cocktails and a happy movie to watch on the flight.

Excellent video. I have flown on Delta Airlines many times since MSP is also a major Delta hub. I have flown on both the A350 and the Boing 767 between MSP and AMS. No need to worry about flying on ETOPS certified twin engine planes over the ocean. The engine and plane are almost 100% reliable. The longest flight I have taken was on a United 777 lasting 14 1/2 hours between Chicago and Hong Kong. Our flight’s route carried us right over the North Pole on the Boing 777. I was amazed by the beauty of flying over the top of the world. Since the flight was in June, I experienced all 24 hours of sunlight at the same time. When I fly, I always choose a window seat. Thanks again for the excellent video.

I would recommend DTW inbound to the USA also. The queue at customs always seems to be tiny. I last flew from CDG to DTW on Air France. I walked straight up to a customs desk and completed the formalities quickly. I had collected my bag and routed it onwards and was in a rather nice sushi bar in the domestic terminal around 30 minutes after landing. For overwater flying, first look up Etops. Second the Mercator projection map gives a false sense of being over vast amounts of water. You're actually nearer to land than you think. However, the Pacific Ocean is a different matter but again, Etops is your safety. Driving your car to the airport is far more dangerous!

Yes they are, flew from Rome to Detroit and it was a breeze through customs. They weren’t straight even for an American. Some other entries like IAD in Washington can be ass and the lines are extremely long.

Westbound flights from Chicago or New York are routed over the North Pole. I flew over the North Pole on a 14 1/2 hour flight from Chicago to Hong Kong. Transatlantic flights like you said are probably closer to land than you would think since routes are often within a few hundred miles of Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland then the UK.

Great video . . . thanks! When I did a fair amount of business travel in the early 2000's, I had several SFO-JFK roundtrips on Delta in their Delta One/Biz Class (at that time) and it was very comfortable and enjoyable for those 5 hour flights. I'm somewhat of an anxious flyer (I would't quite say nervous) and am not fond of turbulence, but oddly enough I actually find flying long haul overseas to be much more relaxing than the shorter domestic flights. I love transatlantic flights, and have done so many over the years that being overwater for that length of time no longer worries me. A good meal and a few cocktails does wonders to soothe the nerves. But I do admit it's always nice to be back over dry land ;-)

Great video! As to flying over water, I have no problem. I was a crew member back in the 1970s and my route was LAX to Honolulu. I flew two round-trips a week. The only thing that made me nervous at times was the 43 mile drive to the airport. I am more relaxed in an airplane than in a car, bus, or train.

Delta is my preferred airline. We flew Delta One Suites on 2/27/23 out of Atlanta to LAX on the A350. We've flown Delta One before from LAX to NYC and Boston but NOT on the A350. What an exceptional experience! Dinner was included in our 4PM flight out and was prepared expertly. I am now trying to book flights on the A350. The quiet sound on takeoff and the smooth landing, even with rain, wind, and snow, near LAX, were unfazed by the Airbus 350. Thank you for sharing the experience.

I moved in with my fiance in Los Angeles back in November and I felt so lucky to snag a suite on the A350 - as it doesn't operate every day and I purchased it last second.

I usually don't pay attention to the safety speeches before takeoff as I know them by heart, but today I was paying attention to every single word 😂 I miss traveling and also hope that things will go back to "normal", as soon as possible.

I flew Delta several times. At least a couple of times I took Delta from JFK to Amsterdam. I was in economy comfort and they took very good care of all their passengers. I intend to fly Delta again! I don’t know if I’ll ever fly in business class but I can at least dream about it!

I have a fear of flying! What's helped me is avoiding caffeine, having a take-off song I always listen to, and not drinking at all. I also make playlists on Spotify from new music and don't listen to them until my journey. And you are always close to a military airport at the very least!

Beautiful airport was impressed when I transited there. I had a long layover from Rome onward to Washington DC and it was a breeze with all the power outlets. I did work and the time went by quickly. It was comfortable and clean with tons of light. Detroit get a lot of grieve but their airport is something better then most other US airports I give it to them.

from the title, it seemed like you totally loved this experience. I love the tram on the INSIDE of the terminal. Even though the lounge looks nice, for some reason the decor (chairs) look a little dated to me. The Buffett area looks adequate and nice. The business class product seems ok to me.. I liked the seating the most. the starter looks really generous and healthy..well done for that. the main course to me was disappointing in terms of portions..I think it looked like a child's portion to me. Dessert/sweets are my weakness..that looked very nice. The breakfast serving was a really good amount and healthy. good review, nicely done.

Really enjoyed this review as the A350 is my favourite aircraft. The best flight I ever had was on a Qatar A350 from Singapore to Doha in Dec 2019, just before the pandemic. Excellent service and the seat was fantastic. Hopefully things will get back to some semblance of normality later this year and travel will again be possible. Meantime I have started re-watching some of your old reports. It reminds me of happier times.

I don't fly often at all - but, I have travelled across the north atlantic 4 times, each time I just think that these planes even without operational engines can glide a fair long while, and that always keeps me calm - also don't think about it much and enjoy the flight (I'd love to fly in business one day!)

I flew on an Airbus 350-900 from AMS to ATL end of November 2021 and you're right those suites are awesome. Better than the ones on an AIrbus 330-neo. I had zero jetlag cause I slept well during the flight.

My airfare is only $2800 USD and this is first time in my life booking first/business class. My favorite is the 747, any series. I am old enough to remember when some airlines had a upper level lounge on the 747, with a bar and couches and chairs. Sadly the 747 is mostly retired from fleets.

A350 and B787 made of composite material, other than the cockpit layout very similar,they both can be powered by GE or Rolls-Royce engine it’s up to the airlines how much they spend to configure it. I flew the A350 with Delta more room but I prefer the same A350 Ethiopian Airlines much better service at least to me, it’s all about preference my friend. But B777 is majestic looking aircraft.

Yeah, a lot of years ago Delta flew in & out of Lynchburg, VA (LYH). I used to LOVE every single flight because the vast majority of them went through ATL, & I LOVE ATLANTA!!!! Weather it was a flight to AUS, back home, or a flight to LAX or LAS, they all started out leaving via ATL--& THAT, for me was almost as exciting as the rest of the flight!!!!

Dear friend, My favorite is A 330 wide body. It is a very comfortable plane. In flying do not much think about what is underneath. Just have a good sleep after dinner/lunch. Thanks

Delta is def one of the “better” domestic (USA) airline out of the 3. However they do have some very very old planes in the fleet especially ones going to South America routes. But if I am flying anywhere domestically I choose Delta.

I fly Delta or its’ partners only. I have flown more than 2 million miles on Delta, and especially during Covid, Delta is important to me, because I know how much they keep the planes clean and maintained. We fly Alitalia One from Miami to Rome twice a year, a Delta partner, because it is nonstop. We drive one hour to Miami to get there, but otherwise, we have to fly to Atlanta from Palm Beach. Even though we now have a Jet Blue Mint nonstop from Palm Beach to LAX, I will still be flying Delta through Atlanta on September 20 to LAX. That is how much I rely on and appreciate Delta Air Lines.

Thank You for knowing how to do video properly.....panning slowly and keeping the subject in view long enough for us to see where we are, how the accommodations appear, as well as text descriptions of the food and other needed information. I really enjoyed this review of the Detroit airport and Delta Sky Lounge. Amsterdam was the first city I ever flew into from USA, in 1967 on KLM, and it holds a dear place in my heart! When will this pandemic be past and travel to Europe a fun thing again?

If you want to enter lounges without status: You can almost always buy in into lounges, either directly or indirectly. Direct starts often at 50 EUR/USD/GBP, indirect is often simply using Concierges from Blacklane Pass or so, which is about twice that price. Ask there beforehand if a specific lounge is possible without having status-access...

I am Usually gone someplace around the World 2 weeks out of a month for about 8 months a year. Have not been anywhere since Jan 2020 sadly. Love the roar of the Engines on take-off. The last time I flew Delta one was on the 747-400 on my way back from Shanghai pre-pandemic a few years before the A350.

I am a nervous flyer too, with the same anxiety when flying over the ocean. I tend to buy magazines that do not require too much reading attention but will take my mind off my current situation (Empire Magazine usually does the trick if you enjoy movies) . It sounds basic, but it helps a lot. I find watching the flight tracker makes me more nervous. (I just discovered your RU-vid page and I am thoroughly enjoying it! Great content.)
