Jordan will be excited to know that Mark Lindsay is part Cherokee (1/8). He (as part of Paul Revere and the Raiders) sang 'Indian Reservation"--which would be a good followup to this song. Also, the guy who wrote "Indian Reservation" also wrote Cher's hit song "Half Breed"--definitely Female Friday Friendly!

Thanks for all you do but if you guys ever wanted to make fewer videos, you know because you have so much else going on in your lives, with taking care of each other and doing the normal day-to-day stuff, I would understand. Mark Lindsay/Paul Revere and the Raiders got their start in the Pacific NW playing from Eugene OR to Bellingham WA, and over to Boise ID. In the early 1960s, roller rinks often doubled as music venues. In 1963, when I was 13, I 'worked' behind the skate counter at Skateland in Olympia WA (fixed skates, handed them out during sessions, etc. and the rink owner then bought me a pair of skates and paid for my lessons in lieu of paying me, since it wasn't legal for me to actually be an employee.) Anyway, that summer of '63, Mark Lindsay/Paul Revere and the Raiders came to Skateland. I helped them unload and set up for the performance. Once it was all done, Mark Lindsay asked me if they could skate for a while, since there was still about an hour before the doors opened. So, I put them on skates and we skated around together for about a half hour--it was a lot of fun for a 13 year old kid to hang out like that with Mark L./PR+R. Arizona wasn't my favorite song of his. I think my favorite was Kicks.

Another great rock band I grew up with from the 60's-70's was Paul Revere & The Raiders. Mark Lindsay was their lead singer & he did the song "Arizona" as a solo. They were known for including Revolutionary War-style clothes in their attire. The band had their first hit in 1961 with the instrumental "Like, Long Hair". "Indian Reservation" was one of their biggest hits in 1971. But they had a lot of great songs such as "Just Like Me", "Kicks", "Hungry", "Let Me", "Arizona", "Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon", "Good Thing", "Him Or Me - What's It Gonna Be?" etc.

They were a fun group to watch on a variety show called Where the Action is (you can find some scenes on youtube). My sister and her friend took me at ten years old or so to see them in concert. It wasn't a major venue as they were just starting out. He made me so happy when he winked at me. I will never forget that. This song really sends me back to when I was a kid in elementary school, and I actually thought he was talking about the state, because of how there were still Indian reservations there, and he mentions "Take down your Indian braids." I don't know why but this song made another song pop in my head that I thought I'd suggest to you... "One Tin Soldier" The original version was released in 1969 by the group The Original Caste. Two years later it was used in the movie The Legend of Billy Jack. The lead singer of the band Coven sang the song using the film's orchestra as the band but they credited it to the whole band Coven anyway. The vocalist for both versions of the song is female so you might use it for a Female Friday. My memory of this song is from Elementary school... I remember a 5-6th grader sang it in the school talent show and brought down the house. I was just a kid and remember thinking how can such a big voice come out of someone so young.

Glad to say that Mark Lindsay is still alive n kicking and active. He first found success and 'fame' in Paul Revere and the Raiders, who had Hit songs in the 60's. The song "Arizona" had a huge impact on me in 1970 in Australia where it reached #10 on our music Charts. Check out Mark's vocal variations in the outro of the song. "C'mon" & "Yeh" are thrown in to break up the repitition of him singing Arizona. It's simple, though very effective and would've come very naturally to Mark. He is one of the greats and deserves more recognition.

Got married in Williams, AZ on old Route 66 and spent a week touring the state from one direction to the other. They also have the longest still in tact stretch of Route 66 which we have driven a couple of times on our way to other states. AZ has it all, mountains, snow, desert, monument valley. It's beautiful, but hot! Haven't heard this song in decades. Mark Lindsay with Paul Revere and the Raiders were a great little band. Steppin' Out is one of my favorites.

Ok. Yet again y'all pull out a song that have I not only not heard in forever but it hasn't even entered my mind for decades. And after listening to it here, I see what a great song it is and should never be filed away as just a 60's/70's one hit wonder.

He was lead singer for “Paul Revere and the Raiders”. I used to go to dances at a popular roller rink in Bellevue, WA that they converted to a live band/dance venue. It was THE place to be on Saturday nights! Paul Revere and the Raiders were CRAZY! They would jump around on stage, hang on the low rafters and swing and jump. 😁👍

@@craigaust3306 I was a Kirkland teen. All I know was it was in Bellevue. It was back in the mid to late 60’s that I went. It was up more in the hill area than downtown Bellevue, I remember that. It was called “Lakehills Roller rink”….but everyone just referred to it as “Lakehills”…

By this 556th comment, all has been said about Mark. Sometime check out others around this time period: The Buckinghams (Mercy Mercy Mercy), Gary Pucket & the Union Gap (Over You, Lady Willpower), and The Foundations (Building Me Up Buttercup) and The Association. They all have many more songs than what I've listed. Great reaction!

Hey guys, another great reaction! I was actually going to skip this one because I didn't recognize the artist nor title. But, I thought, I just crossed the Arizona border should listen to it. Once it started, I recognized it immediately. And I do love this song but never knew who did it. I spent last winter in Arizona for the first time. It wasn't my plan. But that's what happened. By the way, I sleep in my minivan. Been doing it for 4 years. So, I started off in the Phoenix area in January. It started to get too warm. So I moved up to Sedona. It was nearly perfect. We had about four snows. They were never more than about 4 in. And the snow was usually melted within 24 hours. The combination of the temperature and the dryness. Although, I've heard it can get worse than last season. And, I can't speak with personal knowledge about the summer. When I left I drove East towards Florida. And I drove through the mountains of arizona. I never knew they were these mountains. So, my guess is you can find your perfect weather in Arizona if you want. Just be aware of the type of towns you go to. You know what I mean. Love you guys. And be safe.

Hey guys! Please for this female Friday check out Patty Loveless’ cover of You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Patty has had a very successful country music career but after several mainstream albums she released a tribute to the mountain music style that she grew up singing and dedicated it to her parents. She’s from Kentucky which is where this song is about. It is BLUEGRASS / mountain music and is so hauntingly beautiful. Other artists have also covered it, one being Brad Paisley and his is great too. The more traditional sound of Patty’s cover though paired with her perfect voice touches my soul every time I hear it. It’ll bring tears to your eyes. As much as you love Bluegrass Amber you have to hear it!! P.S. There’s a live performance from Austin City Limits and the instrumentals are incredible. ♥️

So cool that you react to this one. I was born and raised in Arizona and love the desert, mountains, rivers and all the rest of the beautiful landscape. Loved when this song came out because it spoke to me as the girl with the rainbow shades and i did go to San Francisco and visited Haight Ashbury, the seat of the hippie movement. Love this. Amber, you would find so many things to see and do in Arizona. I don't live there now, but love it so much. Thanks for this.
