I have no idea what I'm doing. For the love of god please help me. Heard great things about this game and its other related titles. I've seen random clips and videos of this game but i've never actually sat down and seen gameplay videos.
WHAT IS HAPPENING?! This video was suppose to just fill content space before the elden ring DLC. It went from a "eh guess i'll play this" to the most successful video on my channel. Thank You people of the internet. I'm gonna work on the next episode today. Hopefully will be uploaded today as well.
Nope, of all hoyoverse games, this is the best they have made for me. The UI is clean, the tutorials are not annoying and fun, and the lore are bigger, like BIG BIG. They prepared 40+ planets with their own lore before the game even released. Not to mention the gameplay actually wide and full of different mechanics, but not complicated.
The "text above" certain words is a common practice in East Asian writing. After googling it, it's apparently called "Ruby characters." They're used for different reasons but they're most commonly used to guide the reader on how to pronounce uncommon or made-up words.
Also most common in CN actually. Cause CN have a lot Kanji that can have different meaning. In Japan they use this to make Elementary Grade learn a Kanji. If you watch any anime OP that have official lyrics on them, the more younger the target audience the more the lyrics have those or not. Usually a Kanji and the text above using Hiragana.
@@TheMattVis In light novels and manga (and sometimes anime), JP also uses it to give 2 words/phrases worth of meaning at the same time, just as Hoyoverse is doing in HSR. It's especially useful when introducing new in-universe terminology, by having the 'pronunciation' be the new term in hiragana/katakana, while the familiar kanji gives the meaning/significance of that new term.
If you're geeking with such fancy names already, you're in the right dev hands. It's painful for skill descriptions because they often complicate the players' understanding of skill effects but it's epic for lore and worldbuilding. Mihoyo is such a nerd for that and we love them for that. And yes, superscripts on texts is a Hoyo thing (firstly utilized in Genshin) that WuWa also implemented.
My recommendation for you is not to react to character trailer/short animation before end game bc most of them contain spoiler, it's better to go fresh
Yeah especially the newer trailers cuz some of them contain big spoilers for Penacony. Probably best to watch those after the main trailblaze missions in each region if you do watch them
as a day 1 player it's fun seeing someone try out star rail. i hope you like it so far! the lore is crazy in this game and once you get to Penacony (the newest world at the time of me writing this comment) the story really does pick up
Most of the systems in the game came directly from Genshin with some tweaking here and there. They basically took everything they learned from Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd and used it to make this gem of a game. Sadly Genshin's team is still playing catch up with implementing the QoL changes HSR made.
The game is like pretty much every jRPG. A good start then a cooldown. New place, things pick back up INSANE THING HAPPENS. Long cooldown to build for more stuff. The latest planet is good stuff all throughout because it feels like the writers are comfortable that they set concepts enough now to let the player be actually confused for some time.
3:50 Yep! Every character does. * 4:30 - 5:00 This is Herta. Along the bridge are other portraits. If you interact with them (and Herta's), you get special dialogue with Kafka and Silver Wolf that is only available at this point in the game (including some background lore not found elsewhere). Interacting with them again will give you the standard, voiced introduction of each person. 6:52 lol 8:13 lmao, nice! 9:22 Yes, generally speaking. Not too much on your first time on the Station, but there are a couple of easter eggs around, as well as interesting or comical happenings. Later, and increasing with each new "planet" you get to, there are more things to find if you are a completionist or are after trinkets and song tracks (more on that later). 9:40 Actually, this statement isn't far off. Diving into all of it now would be information overload, but basically the people with "powers" (such as everyone you've played or interacted with so far) follow "Paths" from which they draw their power. Many individuals in this universe -- playable, NPC, or in lore -- see the Paths and their Aeons (gods, essentially) the same as we see religion, and in equal degrees (from acknowledgement to evangelism). More on this comes up as you play, as well as the plethora of information available in the data bank once you unlock it. A not-important note to keep in the back of your mind: A character's gameplay Path may not necessarily be the same as their lore Path. Case and point: March 7th's gameplay Path is Preservation, but lore is Trailblaze. When thinking about a character's participation in the story with regards to their Path, consider the lore Path to supersede gameplay. Those who follow a Path and receive power from it are called Pathstriders. 10:38 Yeah, that was very much a threat~ 11:53 Yeah, WuWa lifted A LOT from Genshin and Star Rail. So much so that, having never played WuWa, I thought a screenshot from it was Genshin with a slight graphics boost. A lot of the UI and UX are the same, too. 14:52 A Stellaron Hunter like Kafka and Silver Wolf. More about Elio as you progress. * 19:14 Pretty, right? * 21:36 lmao * 24:17 😉 26:03 So, a personal observation, and maybe complaint, is that Caelus isn't as expressive as Stelle. Or, at the very least, it's much harder to see his expressions compared to her. 🤷♀ 26:25 Same note as above regarding Paths and Aeons, however I'll add info about Emanators here because I was lost AF for a LONG time with regards to them. To keep things simple, you can consider Emanators as demigods if we look at Aeons as gods. They wield considerably more power than Pathstriders, but only a fraction of the power of Aeons. That said, an Aeon can choose just how much power to bestow upon an Emanator. And, to further complicate matters, not all Paths or Emanators are combat-oriented... 26:43 lol, same reaction as many others 😂 31:49 That yellow gun in the background is the rating pistol Silver Wolf was talking about. Come back to that when you have a few more characters 😉 34:00 Yep, March retaliates whenever a shielded ally is attacked, as you figured out! Up to two times before cooldown. 42:24 - 34 :wheeze: 43:13 You can press and hold the key for the corresponding skill/attack to get a pop-up tooltip. More detailed information is available on the character sheet and their Traces window. 47:31 There's an ongoing joke among the fanbase that HoYo is a music company that makes games. The music on the space station is awesome and continues throughout the rest of the game. 52:04 Each light cone also has lore on it. Completely optional, of course, but fun nonetheless. 53:30 Same, fam. I never touched 2x until I got to the point in the game where I needed to start farming materials. This can be a contentious subject with some people, so be weary. Particularly if you stream this, you could get a lot of people spamming chat with "2x play 2x 2x 2x" nonsense. Play how you see fit. Except boss fights. Always play those at 1x 😜 Glad you had fun! Now that you have even a slight awareness of the game and a handful of characters, you'll need to hold off on some of the character trailers (particularly the later, more recent ones), the Myriad Celestia trailers past "Fables About the Stars" ("The Jepella Rebellion" is also okay since it pretty much stands alone), and animated shorts. To be honest, most of the character trailers are fine to watch, it's just a few of the ones for characters that came out during the Penacony arc would be spoilery for Penacony's story and characters (two of which are absolutely spoilers). It's the same story with the Myriad Celestia trailers; most are fine up to a certain point, but they provide a lot of either character or location lore, none of which you currently have any context for. The animated shorts, on the other hand: Three are explicitly spoilers, one is more enjoyable with context of the planet it's from, a few are literal shorts (around one minute long) about Penacony characters, and one I would recommend closer to the end of the next area you get to after the station. It would be safe to watch now if you want to get hyped about the fact HoYo loves Star Rail, but again, more enjoyable when you are more comfortable after surviving the overstimulation of the first few hours of gameplay. Oh, and you might have noticed I marked a few items with an asterisk. These are items worth looking at again once you've gotten more familiar with the game. And for a couple of these, again after you reach a certain point in the story. Vague now, sure, but when you reach that point it will be obvious. That said, you can absolutely check out the first part of the space station again by selecting a different region. Each region works like a save file, so it would be a new game entirely. Handy if you want to see a different perspective on something, or revisit locked off areas once you passed them on your main. Like the portraits. ;) And don't be afraid to try interacting with things. There are a number of easter eggs in this game.
@@peritia5703 Tbh they are both pretty stoic at times and both show emotions at times. I just usually see Stelle being more stoic, like even in her destruction ult. She calmly says "Rules are made to be broken" but we got Caelus going complete anime by going "Rules... ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN!"
How could you stand to play without 2x speed bro????? I agree that the animations are indeed amazing to watch, but it just feels so slow. 2x makes the combat feel more fast pace and a bit more intense.
HSR being the very first Hoyo game you play is the best possible choice, it's pretty much a Hoyo game done right in almost everything. Granted it's not an action game like the others but even the turn based system is great in this.
59:50 It’s actually only been out for a little over 1 year-It just had its first anniversary. That being said, it came out with enough content for a fully made game you would buy as is. Since then, even if you don’t include the new world and the longest story arc of any of the stories that we’ve gotten so far (the newest world and arc is so good), there have been a lot of updates, event, companion missions, etc etc added. If you take your time with the game (which I recommend for the most enjoyment), it will take you a while to even get to the newest world. I can’t wait to watch you play all of it!
I’m in the same boat as you when it comes to fantasy vs sci-fi, but I have to admit that HSR has a lot of fantasy elements that makes it pretty engaging for a fantasy fan like me. And once you get to the first planet, it starts having more fantasy vibes. I love your commentary btw, you make the starting part not boring for someone like me who’s watched it so many times, and you feel genuine
The story is good at the beginning, though I must warn you it does get a little slow during the Xianzhou, but then you’ll experience a genuinely amazing story once you get to the current world/story
55:21 "he really hates the main character" nice observation, the game has "hidden-ish" mechanic called taunt value-basically the likelihood of a character getting hit based on their paths, look it up and be informed by useful information or be graced with the tingyun memes lol
That, and March's shield adds taunt value, making the recipient more likely to be attacked (net win, since you get the dps from her follow up AND protect other chars with reduced or no shield)
38:59 you have no idea how right you are are 😂 You might wanna check out the character and lore (myriad celestia) trailers if you haven't before, I know ppl tend to love reaction videos to them as well
Thanks for being genuinely interested in the story and mechanics of the game 🙏 I hope you continue. And this editing format is really nice. Like including the highlights (reacting/learning/discovering new stuff)
Loved the video! Watching through the video the comments you made were both quite funny and respectful in my honest opinion! I hope you enjoy the game as much as we all did!!!
I'm here for this. You should check the character trailers sometime, you'll simp so hard Edit: The commentary is a relatable vibe, hope you keep playing
New HSR player and new content creator with really amazing commentary to subscribe to! You should definitely check out the railers to get more hyped up for the characters since you probably don't know much about them. Skip the Myriad celestia and animated shorts though if you don't wanna be spoiled.
Please, keep it up, enjoy the game and share it with us through new videos. Always nice to see new players and their channels grow! You got yourself a new subscriber.
Wait what? I watched your video yesterday and it was sitting at 300 something views iirc. Now it's around 7k. Very happy for you dawg. Hope you keep on playing and enjoying the game further.
"So, Dan Heng is the Yangyang" - the disrespect, I can't. 😭 Not gonna lie, I didn't plan to watch the whole video - was just looking for something to look at while enjoying my coffee - but I like what I see, so I'll get a second cup and watch the rest of the video. I'm playing HSR since the day of its release and that's just a year and a couple of months but it already feels kinda nostalgic to watch other people going through the early game. I hope you like it enough to play it more - I'd enjoy watching you play it.
Interesting. Judging by time of comments, youtube actively forcing your video last couple of hours. Got me too, if you continue, I'll watch. Welcome and GLHF
This was a heck of a fun video. +1sub for you. Looking forward to future vids of this cause I think you're going to be pretty happy with your choice to give this one a try. You commented about the music being good, so Ill tell you, if there is one thing Hoyo does best, it is music. Also, your idea about a game where the MC plays having amnesia is brilliant, and I agree someone needs to get on that.
Quantum and imaginary is because of another game that basically build the hoyoverse Imaginary like the imaginary tree (it's a tree that create the possibility of every world) and the quantum sea which is kinda hard to explain
I've never played Wuthering Waves but one thing I love about Star Rail is that the free MC actually is pretty cool. In Genshin the MC does have some good abilities but most of the time they're kinda lackluster compared to other units and a lot of people don't really use them once they're out of early game (which is a shame, because I love genshin and I want to use the MC for the immersion). But the Star Rail MC? Very cool to use both early and late game. I'm a Day 1 player and I've gotten a lot of characters at this point at high levels, but I still keep the MC on my team because they're genuinely good. And before someone comes at me about bringing up Genshin and comparing; I love Genshin. The only reason I bring it up is because I haven't played many other gacha games of this sort and so I'm not sure if it's the norm for the MC to be lackluster gameplay wise in gacha games. But if it is the norm, I do like that Star Rail isn't doing that.
The main character has sarcastic and funny dialogue fr and also if you unlock harmony trailblazer and preservation trailblazer never use physical trailblazer again. If you don’t understand the main guy will unlock more paths and types, you can switch between them.
I think my biggest recommendation with playing this game story-wise is doing some of the side quests/companion quests in the planets before moving on to the next planet's main story. They give you more world building and seeing characters and NPCs from other quests in the main quest makes it more interesting imo. No spoilers, but for example, there's a period in the second main quest in the latest planet [Penacony] where all the NPCs you can interact with in tiny side quests appear, and then there's a permanent event quest in the second plaenet [Luofu] featuring characters you do companion quests with that deepens the story if you do their quests first - it just makes the world more lived in. However, it's no big deal if you don't do the quests... don't take it too seriously and have fun!
I love ya, easy subscription. Also need to check out your Waves stuff. The story itself is alright, but music, world building and character development are all out of this world. Character trailers and teasers are probably spoiler-heavy at times but I would definitely check out the Keeping Up With Star Rail videos of characters that intrigue you or just trial them out while their banners are up. It also gives you a little bit of pull currency :) Looking forward to your next one 😊
Omg.. :D you found a goldmine my dude :D and as you walked in the legion saw you too :D now you cant escape xDD honestly ?? even though no webcam isnt my top thing, your commentary is very good and pretty funny^^ definitely waiting for more parts :) though as i heard in your newest video im little woried how paced you are? (im not saying i hate when people skip all side quest etc) im mostly skipping them myself :P but purely ''speedrunning'' the story quest couldnt be my recommended way either.. well i guess i could understand it here.. since they lock most of the newest events in endgame :// thats like only thing i dislike about this game other than that im enjoying it since launch and as someone who left Genshin cause burnout that means something xD will see :D as long as you enjoy the game that what matters^^
Woah, welcome to HSR, I hope you enjoy the game. I am enjoying your commentary lol. I would also suggest to only watch trailer after every stop, it would be more fun to play with no spoiler.
I understand the comparison of WuWa but this game did indeed come first! However, the developers of WuWa and Hoyoverse are friends believe it or not, so its understandable that WuWa took a lot of inspiration from Hoyoverse games
Havent hears about you before but i play a lot of hoyo games so yt just recommended your channel to me. I hope you have a lot of fun with HSR :D. Also a plus since im planning to play elden ring soon. I'll def watch your ER vids when i do.
Great start. Ill just say that when you unlock the double speed - please, don't use it in boss battles. Its so rare to find someone who uses the first speed. Almost everybody prefers speed over cool shit, which is a shame
52:04 Light cones are physical forms of memories. Each has a small written story in them, and some are quite interesting. I don’t remember what this one said, so I guess it wasn’t interesting enough for me to remember. 😂
This game is actually more sci-fi fantasy than just sci-fi. I too am more into fantasy than sci-fi but like the lore and the story in this game very much. Most futuristic elements are actually more tied to magic and myth than to technology. The sci-fi feel is more like a facade. I think it's actually more fantasy than anything and I too like it better that way.
You might have missed that each character under a specific path has taunt value, so placing tank or destruction units to middle or edgemost on team set up may help.
The alternate name above thing is i think a result of the chinese version doing that? Having stuff like a name and title with 1 over the other. It can add some nice extra context
It's not a game where the main character is deceiving people about having amnesia, but since im always comparing this game too... in genshin, the player character is hiding their true identity from almost all characters, definitely all npcs. The people who know about the secret of our power dont seem to mind so it doesnt have the tension you were talking about.
I mean, this is probably the best Hoyoverse game to this point. I just couldn't vibe with Genshin Impact or Honkai Impact: 3rd. But this game kinda "converted" me to a Hoyoverse fan. And I'm waiting for the new Zenless Zone Zero game. That game is hack'n'slash type, but still gacha tho, lol.
30:38 Imaginary and quantum have to do with universe lore. Most of what I know comes from people explaining the lore from Honkai Inpact 3rd, but you don’t really need to know any of it. There are some mentions to it in some of the reading materials in this game. From my understanding, reality is a leaf on something called the “imaginary tree” that grows in the “sea of quanta,” with quanta being all possibilities and the imaginary tree being these endless possibilities ordered into actual realities. It’s an oversimplification of a complex concept that I don’t fully understand. Anyways, all you need to know is that quantum and imaginary both types, along with fire, wind, physical, lightning, and ice (why not liquid water or water in general? Why frozen water?).
Would like to see you play gensgin too, contrary to the community the game is super awesome omfg. the world building is si good and the archon quest gets better each region. Would also like u to continue this game till u get to penecony!! the most peak story and characters of star rail imo. easy subribe button! just play at your place and u will surely enjoy this game!! take a break if u have to, trust me almost all players here took a break b4 penacony loll
Click on the phone icon on the left top on the screen and go to the mail and you will get 2 new character and 20 pulls and much more including a free 5 star
24:57 Whenever you notice similarities between Honkai: Star Rail and Wuthering Waves, remember they stole it from HSR, not vice versa. I’ve tried to get into Wuthering Waves, but I can’t get over how much they stole from Star Rail and Genshin. They had a chance to make their own game with their own mechanics, but they decided to steal most of it from Genshin, even the gatcha system. But yeah, despite the similarities, Honkai: Star Rail is its own game, and in my personal opinion, it’s a lot better. Although that may be because Wuthering Waves doesn’t have Kafka 😛
You're doomed to play more of this game, congrats. You'll get more views and all kinds of commenter's will pops up on your subscribers group 😂 Just take your time and have fun with this game, it's the best way for it.
