SO JEALOUS OF JAMES! American Millennials React "Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke" ETS21 T-Day Special 

I met the Beatles in 1963, when I was 14, back stage at Newcastle city hall on their first tour. I was allowed back stage to get their autograghs. The other 3 were so shattered after the show, they couldn't speak, but when I got to Paul, he chatted to me for a few minutes and told me he had an autie who lived near to where I used to live. He was really nice.

The National Trust own John and Paul’s childhood homes, and you can visit inside them. Paul’s was my favourite as it just felt so homely. Well worth a visit for any fan. You should also watch the outtakes from this episode. Paul visits the Beatles statue for the first time.

I met Paul a few times. In 1998 in London, Leicester Square, he was promoting his (then) new album Run Devil Run. I did not expect to be so close to him, he just went to give a few autographs, say hello to the fans, so there he was, next to me, I could not talk, nothing, just staring at him while all the fans went mantal😉... To me, as a foreigner, from Slovakia, who has listened to the Beatles since my childhood, that was unbeliveble, first thing I did after I called my parents from telephone booth, my dad introduce me to their music when i was a kid. Second time I saw Paul in London too, i went to work in the morning,walking through St. James Park and Paul was there with his young daughter Beatrice, he is down to earth person, i smiled at him, he smiled back, i said hi to Paul, he said hi to me, we had a little chat and that was it. When you see somebody that famous, do not bother them too much, let them be alone. That is my advice. And third time, London, 2005,Hyde Park, Live Aid.... And here I am, still listening to the Beatles and Paul😉👍✌️

My mum worked with Paul’s mum, who was a nurse. She was very hardworking, well-liked but had a hard life even before she became unwell.

Great reaction! This is one of my favourite videos ever on RU-vid, just pure love and respect and shows some of the local community in Liverpool and the love for the Beatles so well. James needs some credit for helping to make this happen because this video has definitely done a lot of good in the world. What a class act Sir Paul is, happy thanksgiving guys!

Oh I loved this one! It was so lovely seeing Paul to go his old hoise, which must have been emotional as his Mum died only a year after they moved in. His brother goes there all the time as it is part of The National trust which I am a member of, I would like to go there. The Beatles are part of my upbringing they have always been there

Great to see this video again. The Beatles were the soundtrack to my teenage years, along with the other groups that came onto the scene from Liverpool. I saw Paul McCartney on tour when he was in his early 60s. He was on stage for over 3 hours, with renditions of Beatles and Wings numbers. Best concert ever. Paul was my favourite Beatle.

One thing to consider is being a densely packed country there tends to more respect for people’s privacy and space in public, that extends to *everybody* - so things that make us seem colder to Americans like being less inclined to start conversations with strangers in public are the reason celebrities can be more likely to have a bit of peace in public in the UK

Around 20 years ago, I was incredibly lucky to work on a documentary about Sir Paul, which one of his daughters produced. We shot it at the Mull of Kintyre, at his home and studio. I even got to have dinner with the great man.

My pal Dave was the lighting gaffer on this. He mentions it often (as you might expect)...

We have something over here called The National Trust- they own a lot of really awesome places like stately homes and castles etc and That house is one of them… you can buy a yearly membership and visit these cool places or just pay per visit if you don’t have a membership

just so you know that james is not as bad as james haters say. he explained the restaurant thing on one of his shows intros. his wife is allergic to a certain item and they kept bringing the said food back. so he lost his rag slightly. he is honestly not bad , a lot of people just hate his success. .

James is great at harmonising with Paul, he really added to the value of this.

Paul McCartney has probably been the most famous person in the world over the last 60 years. Other musicians and actors, no matter how well known, are never as famous as the Beatles. Politicians and sport stars come and go. But there is always Paul McCartney. Six decades after Love Me Do he can still draw enormous crowds. And why not? Nobody else has a back catalogue like Mac. Nobody is even close. Corden at least knows his place here. He may have his own talk show and he makes movies but he is well aware that he isn't even 1% as famous as the man beside him. Extraordinary though that Paul's original house has been kept as some kind of museum. Imagine working there on the day he comes back! And imagine being able to sing Penny Lane with Paul McCartney.... while driving along Penny Lane. This is Corden's greatest moment and it looks like he knows it. Also, hasn't Paul looked after himself? He's still able to play concerts of two and a half hours plus at the age of 80! Respect.

I agree, an absolutely fantastic piece of film despite it being James Corden, and to be honest other James Corden carpool karaokes are also worth looking into for British artists Adele, Chris Martin and Sam Smith - nobody can deny his ability to harmonise also. I feel a bit sorry for James, he started off life well in Gavin and Stacey/A league of their own, but then got a bit too big for his boots.

How, being a massive Beatle and McCartney fan, and being a subscriber to your channel for such a long time, did I miss this until now? Spencer.... I love you more than ever. Loving The Beatles is one thing, but knowing the fish & finger pie reference is magic.

Beatles were the first band i ever loved although they had already split up when i found them around 1973. They changed everything because of they wrote their own songs and were so experimental with instruments and recording techniques. Its all about the music- you have to listen to the music to make your mind up. There is no Hype when it comes to the Beatles. There is also so much variety - from Eleanor Rigby to Helter Skelter , from While my guitar gently weeps to revolution. So many internationally renowned anthems. They did the first internationally broadcast live performance with All you need is love, they refused to perform segregated concerts in the usa. When considering PmcC meeting fans remember what happened to John Lennon - by someone who had just asked him for an autograph. Less well known is the fact that George Harrison was also stabbed by an intruder in his house, luckily he survived . I think it is both brave and generous for him to be in a crowd like that. This film makes me smile so much my cheeks hurt.PMcC headlined the Glastonbury festival in uk this summer aged 82 with his back up singers Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl on some songs. If you want to see what can be done with an audience try watching that performance of Hey Jude. regarding the compactness of the uk can i just point out the density of musical genius this country produces - rolling stones, cream , led zeppelin, pink floyd , queen------- i could go on indefinetley - you are welcome ( you can keep James Corden tho)

I was in a cafe in in London about 10 years ago. Someone tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out that Paul McCartney was having a coffee with his son in the corner. No one bothered him at all. About 20 minutes later, he thanked the staff very politely and wandered out.

James is a product of British stage schools and used to perform in West End Musicals so he can sing. I’m not his biggest fan but Gavin and Stacey is definitely worth checking out

I was managing hot water comedy club which is 2 doors down from the Philly pub. And I’m absolutely gutted because I was working that day and saw all the trucks outside the pub setting the stage and equipment up and I had no idea it was for Sit Paul. And I missed it all. 😢

My father in law lives in Paul’s old street where they visit and is standing outside when they’re their.

Fun reaction! I love this segment. But the gentleman on the right is missing out by not listening to The Beatles. It’s not about already knowing they’re the GOATs so you don’t need to listen, it’s about the happiness their music evokes. Enjoy the journey (for yourself.) Also, I don’t understand the Corden hate. They were and still are the Greatest Band of all time. They changed music, fashion, politics etc. for the following generations. Worldwide sales, 600 million albums, 1.6 billion singles and five singles in the top 20 at no. 1,2,3,4and 5. Beat that👍

In reference to the Cavern, many stars played there after the Beatles, like the Rolling Stones and Elton John. More contemporary artists I'd recommend you check out, that were around the same time, are Cilla Black and Petula Clarke..😊

Check out the tour of America by Sir Paul in 2001 when megastars from every form of the arts went to see him. If you’re a Fabs fan,and especially if you were a kid in the 60’s,it gets very emotional and the shots of the crowd had people with tears streaming down their faces as the fantastic memories of that wonderful magical era come flooding back. Watch it,you won’t be disappointed.

I was born in Liverpool back in 1963. The Beatles records were always being played in our house and so I grew up to be a die hard Beatles fan. My late Mum used to work in Liverpool city centre in those days and would often meet my dad for lunch before going up to The Cavern Club where The Beatles would often do a lunchtime set. She told the story many times as she knew that I was incredibly jealous of that fact. Even today, I don't care how great any band becomes, The Beatles will always be that one step higher up the ladder. Legends to be sure!

I used to be Paul McCartney's neighbour, he lived on Millionaire's Row on the beach in Hove and I had a small flat just around the corner, never did see him though, Fatboy Slim lived there too and he'd always be out and about.

I was incredibly lucky to see Paul at the Cavern Club back in July 2018 on my first ever visit to Liverpool, still gives goosebumps when I think about it.

I love that the penny lane street sign has to be painted on because the council got sick of replacing it after it was stolen so many times.

I’m 72 now and became a teenager in 1963. My parents bought me a transistor radio for my 13th birthday. Didn’t take them long to regret it 😉

Hey I was the guy who synced up all the gropro cameras for this shoot. There was a problem where they kept turning off and on again every five minutes so it was one of the worst jobs I ever did. True story.

BTW - the original Cavern Club was closed as British Rail bought the site to put a ventilation shaft down there for a new railway extension that didn’t happen in the end. It’s now recreated on the opposite side of the road using some of the original bricks. Loads of groups were discovered at the Cavern Club. It was a dive back in the day - where much clothing, handbags and stuff disappeared without trace.

Tipping isn't really a thing in the UK where it's mostly considered rude to tip.

Nobody lives in Paul’s childhood home now. It’s owned by the National Trust and is a tourist attraction. Coach tours go there daily. The National Trust mostly owns stately homes and important parts of UK landscapes - castles, estates, farms, beaches, hills, cliffs, etc. (Americans and other tourists can get a National Trust discount card for entry that even UK citizens can’t get!) The house next door to Paul’s childhood home is worth a max of £220k ($266k). You have to get out into the suburbs for houses in the Liverpool area to be worth £millions. (Not even John’s old house in St George’s Hill is worth that much. It was up for sale two years ago for £9m. It’s not the Palladian style that’s wanted these days, more Home Counties farm house.) It’s not an Air BnB. It is a museum. You don’t stay in museums … but you can stay in cottages at Chatsworth House (Duke of Devonshire’s estate); Sandringham House, Balmoral Castle and all over the Duchy of Cornwall (Royal Family). There’s tons of hotels in Liverpool. Just don’t stay at The Adelphi - although in old posh cruise ship style, designed for those staying the night before a trans-Atlantic crossing in the 1900s - it’s now very run down, as it seems are all the hotels now owned by the same company. Brand new has always been seen as better in Liverpool.

As another has said, the original Cavern has gone. Although a similar cellar further up the street has replaced it. McCartney has played that one. There is a small shopping area where the original Cavern was with a mark where the stage was.

His former home on Forthlin Rd. is now owned by the NATIONAL TRUST and it WAS his home back then. Several families have lived there until it was bought by THE NATIONAL TRUST. It is now a tourist attraction and by appointment you can tour the house. The woman that opened the door does not live there. She is one of the people that will guide tourists through Paul's house. (Notice the ID lanyard around her neck.) The two portraits that the camera focused on were Paul, his younger brother Michael with their mother Mary, and the next one was of Paul and his brother were their father Jim (James). By the way, "Paul" is McCartney's MIDDLE name. His full name is JAMES (after his dad) PAUL McCartney. Paul and his wife Linda named their only son (who was their youngest) child "JAMES" after his dad (Paul) and his Granddad. When Paul starts talking about "SHE LOVES YOU," look over James Corden's shoulder and you can see a photo hanging on the wall. It's hard to see, but it's a photo of PAUL playing his guitar in their back yard (Back garden), which was taken through the kitchen window by his brother Michael back in around '62 or '63. Michael has a lot of GREAT black and white photos from that period that he took, even ones before the Beatles ever got a recording contract. Michael wrote a book about ALL The McCartney family entitled "THE MACS: MIKE McCARTNEY'S FAMILY ALBUM, which also has many of the photos that Michael took, it is VERY good and well worth getting. You can find it online. He also had several books just on his black and white photography, over the years. "Mike" is a GREAT guy and just as talented as Paul. In the '60s and early '70s he was in a musical comedy group called "THE SCAFFOLD" where he used the name "Mike McGear" during his career with music. He has his own album "McGear" which is excellent. He's a great singer and songwriter as well.

The philharmonic pub is a really beautiful pub, so oldy worldy. I'm surprised he didn't visit the Cavern.

Also, the reason carpool karaoke worked so well was because James is very disarming and can get the celebs to behave like ordinary humans, this is a talent in its self. Just try and watch the apple version of carpool without him, it just doesn't work at all.

Actually there are some bits of this which were edited out but can be found online, and it's Sir James Paul McCartney who has a son called James who's also a singer, and you can see him along with many from the UK walking down the street, they don't tend to hide away, and Sir Tom Jones summed it up, if you don't advertise you're going to be somewhere shopping, or out and about with your family etc then by the time you've walked past and thought wasn't that so and so they've gone, but at the same time if someone asks for a picture or autograph remember who put you there it takes a couple of minutes, and Daniel Sir Paul wouldn't have anything staged it's how he is again as with many from his generation, they take the work seriously not themselves and he played Glastonbury this year for 3 hours however the day before played a warm up in a small theatre called The Cheese And Grain in Frome Somerset, tickets were limited but people could hear him outside, and I have a friend who's American who met with Paul back in the early 70's with his brothers and parents and have met a few times since, and Sir Paul gave my friend one of his Bass Guitars as this person also played the Bass within his family group which were as big as the Beatles with the Mania

Paul through his support for the liverpool institute of performing arts LIPA, and through the Linda McCartney foundation has put alot back into his hometown of liverpool and is well loved in city.

Interesting point about living close to famous people. I could take you on a 15 minute drive and point out where Roger Daltrey (The Who), Robert Smith (The Cure), Rag'n'Bone Man, Jayne Torvill & Tom Baker all live. My niece worked in a local farmshop and Johnny Depp came in regularly with (in her words) some old bloke - who turned out to be Jeff Beck. Priscilla Presley lived there for a while too. And Gary Numan. My friend's younger brother made friends with a guy at college who asked him home to hang out and listen to music. They were picked up at the station by his dad - Paul McCartney in a beaten up old Land Rover

The Cavern Club today is further down Matthew Street than the original one which was demolished in the 1970s and it doesn't smell the same apparently, the original used to smell of oranges in the warehouse above combined with sweat from the crowd and disinfectant but the new one doesn't.

I was at Glastonbury festival again this year. I loved this episode of Carpool Karaoke, and of course watched most of Mr McCartney's set. But I made the mistake of going to Download (rock) festival only a week before, so I could barely stand up by the end of Glastonbury, and missed the part where Dave Grohl arrived (damn). Got to see the Foo Fighters at Glasto a few years ago, though, and it was honestly the BEST live gig I've ever seen. All the way through, the atmosphere was great, and the music never let up. Obviously I was a bit drunk, too, which helped. lol I know some people will say the Beatles were/are overrated, but when you look back at the sheer amount of amazing songwriting and cultural influence, it's not really up for discussion. lol

I am from there but I took my husband many time to A LOT of pubs in Liverpool. He is a musician, and one pub (in Clubmoor) had a tape of the Beatles on, everyone in the pub was singing, he couldn't believe it, it was so overwhelming for him v emosh. But it's notbjust beatles hubby borrowed someone's guitar and did an impromtu blues session in West Derby (The Halton Castle) bit worried rat Daniel thinks that the only reason Liverpool is famous is cos of the beatles seeing as at least half or your populations ancestors travelled through there to go to US

Don't let the Corden haters give you a false impression of the guy, the reason he was complaining in the restaurant was because his wife has a serious (potentially life threatening) allergy which they informed the service staff of to make sure the ordered food was safe for her, 3 times they brought the food and it still came back with the thing she was allergic too. I would have gone mad at them also. He's since been unbanned by the restaurant. James is a genuine guy, but because he doesn't look like a regular celeb he gets a ton of hate.

You also need to remember the times that the Beatles came through, they were revolutionary Sg Pepper album was a classic example.

I think famous people are treated different here in Ireland. Seen Bono busking on the street in dublin last week. Was at a gig last year there was a crowd at the bar waiting for a drink. The Edge walked in people pushed him out of the way and he had to wait in line. He started laughing turned to me and said "Yep I'm back in Dublin"

Paul McCartney is a legend, nobody is on his artistic level.

I would have been in TEARS if I had been there. I have been a fan since I was 16/17 years old in 1964 (I am 75 now) and Paul was always my favorite. The Beatles and Paul's music and all the other's solo music have been the soundtrack of my life. Also, I NEED to tell you that the current CAVERN is NOT where the Beatles were "discovered" by Brian Epstein. It is a replica of the REAL CAVERN which was demolished around 1972 (dumb move on the city, for sure) I was lucky enough to spend an evening IN the REAL CAVERN in Aug. of 1968 (just 6 years AFTER they played there for the last time) when I was 21 years old. I wish there was a way I could send you the photos of me in there and the pics I took of the bands performing that night. You can find photos of the REAL ORIGINAL CAVERN on line. The CURRENT replica of the Cavern isn't a true replica, because it has photos on the walls, colored lighting, tables and chairs, it's sort of "glammed up" The REAL CAVERN was dark, dimly lit, and only had rows of wooden chairs in the center section. That was it. So the current one doesn't give a true representation of the real one.

I suppose the thing is for me when I was little tiny kid they were singing love love me do, I could relate to that and when I was a teenager waring purple Claire’s trousers, flowered shirts, high heel boot’s little round sun glasses, love beads and long hair and they were singing Lucy in the sky with diamonds. I could relate to that too,

Im not a great James corden fan but to his credit he has done some fabulous stuff, and he has a total fear attitude to what he does, he just needs to get back to blighty in the real world and contribute

NO NONE of that was staged It is a tourist attraction now, his former home, and when you see a camera crew outside you KNOW Paul must be there, He DOES shake hands with people if he gets near some people. Remember people still LIVE in all those homes on Fourthlin Rd. Many of them could have been the neighbors that came out when they say the camera crew. You can see many of them heading in different directions across the street returning to most likely their own homes on Forthlin Rd. There isn't a SOLE on that street that DOESN'T know that that home was Paul McCartney's. Especially when there are tours going through the house most days. IT WAS NOT STAGED, NOR was the crowd. IF YOU saw a camera crew on YOUR street, wouldn't YOU go outside and see what was going on?

I think that the reference in Penny Lane was to fish fingers which was a very popular and cheap way of getting kids to eat fish when I was a kid. Today they`d probably be called fish nuggets but one day a week ( Friday usually , in Ireland when it was usual to forego meat which I think was a religious thing, maybe) you got home made chips ( fries, or fried potato wedges ) baked beans in tomato sauce and Birdseye Fish Fingers and Liverpool , being the capital of Ireland 😁 had a lot of the same things we did.
