@Steve Robertson Adam has said they really really don't like each other personally and they can't stand being around each other when not working. Working on the other hand he said he has never had a better co-worker. He could point at something or Jamie point and without a word they both know what the other meant. Adam could be building something and Jamie just grab a tool and start fixing the other side exactly how Adam was going to do it. Jamie talked about an episode they are under water in scuba gear and neither can talk. Adam saw a potential safety hazard and pointed and Jamie gave a thumbs up. No talking but always on the same page. Just when things like food, tv, films, books, cars, clothes or any life topics came up they are always the opposite and never could find a common ground that didn't require a wrench or hammer.
@@bwood6337 Exactly. I don't associate with my co-workers that much and don't care to get to know them outside of work. But that doesn't mean I don't respect them and that I'm unwilling to work with them. People put WAY too much weight on socializing in work spaces.
In an alternate universe not far from ours, the cameras were rolling, and Jamie and Adam laughing like Beavis and Butthead at a car with manhole covers for wheels became one of those iconic opening intro clips.
This explains why some of the "myths" were so weird. It really was they got an idea they wanted to test and so made up a myth no one has ever heard of so they could test it.
I'm watching this 3 months later of your comment, and I'm wondering about all these similar comments here about the recommendation algorithm, so weird. But I actually know why: I watched a few Tested episodes, and maybe 1-2 interviews with Adam
@Harry. B. Renner. jr. Working together every day for decades must be wearing, no matter how close you are. I can't blame them for not hanging out with each other all the time.
The Adam and Jamie’s duo is like an old married couple relationship, theyre obviously not being best buddies and it gives actual personality to the show.
Everyone always asks about Jamie and Adam being friends outside of work. I would like them to watch this video. This is Jamie and Adam. This is how they get along and their attitude towards each other. They have fun together but have no interest in being life-long friends. That's how I interact with 99% of the people I work with. I don't take them out to dinner. Edit: Jamie
@@solomale2156 Well in my case it's just because we don't share interests outside of work and most of us have kids and stay busy. I know that doesn't compare to Jamie and Adam on a TV show but I can relate to the fact that I don't call my co-workers up and ask them to come hang out. I have quite a few other close friends I've known for 10+ years. Edit: Jamie
@@staticklingon2182 i think it's jamie btw. And that makes sense. But there are people who for no reason, don't even consider befriending their coworkers
@@solomale2156 You're right. It's Jamie. Yeah there's people who have a rule about it. I wouldn't buddy up to my boss but I've hung out with coworkers many times before. Just none of my current ones. I don't add coworkers to my social media but that's just because you never know when one is going to get bitter and start trying to use it against you. What time you were on, comments you made, etc.
solomale no you fool. He said he doesn’t go OUT OF HIS WAY to be friends with them. So basically he is just staying in his lane. So he intentionally just does himself and doesn’t care about the others. Which is how it should be
It's so amazing how Adam and Jamie were able to work so well together even though apparently they really don't even like each other. They don't get along well outside of the show. I was really surprised to find that out, because you would never know it from watching them. They were a great team on the show and I thought for sure they were best friends. I guess that really shows how professional they are.
It isn't that they don't "like" each other, and niether of them has ever said that. Adam was already working for Jamie when the show started. You don't work with someone for that many years if you don't like them. They just are not best buds that hang out together in their off time like everyone thinks they do. Neither do Penn and Teller. That doesn't mean they don't love and respect each other. They just spend enough time together as it is while working.
@@biteme263 Incorrect. Adam and Jamie have absolutely openly expressed distaste for one another. They grated *heavily* on one another. That said, they were mature enough to inform one another when annoyance levels were rising, deal with the issue, build a bridge, and get the fuck over it so they could do the job. Both have displayed a complete lack of any desire to ever reunite for any reason, work or otherwise. Their few encounters with one another at conventions have been kept purely professional; contact always began and ended on stage. Any communication between the two done off stage was carried out through their assistants. Incidentally, Penn and Teller *are* friends. They simply don't socialize much outside of work due to not having any interests that align other than magic. That said, both consider each other to be their respective best friends, with Penn's children even considering Teller to be a close relative. They've based their relationship on mutual respect rather than affection, meaning any disagreements they do have are able to be handled quickly and efficiently. This, according to Teller, has allowed them to use any disagreements they have had to improve their act by fielding new ideas and expanding the range of discussions had.
For all the talk about them not being friends and making it work, you can actually see them getting on each others nerves in the first few episodes(really just adam getting upset about his eyebrows and jamie’s unsympathetic reaction.) So not only did they not really have an interest in friendship, but they managed to make something professional and lighthearted out of what could have otherwise been antagonistic and dramatic, which is something I gladly believe they recognized early on nobody really wanted.
I went back and watched every episode one Discovery+ recently. It was kind of shocking to me how much they butted heads in the early seasons. It happened all the time, I never remembered that from my childhood.
this is the reason i have always loved the mythbusters. They're just engineers/makers that got paid to test myths and have fun using their brains. Brilliant show and i love that Adam Savage went on to make tested, his 1 day builds are the best.
its actually cute to see that Jamie - although being this shit-kicker, doing-what-needs-to-be-done kinda guy - is quite uncomfortably in front of a huge crowd ^^
Jamie being so introverted is WHY he recommended they find a foil. If memory serves, he actually suggested Adam be doing the show (possibly instead of Jamie instead of with him).
It's funny to hear everyone disappointed that these two weren't "friends". They obviously had fun working with each other. Do you go out to dinner with every work buddy? They were a great team.
I like how jaime is like, "no one has the tools to modify man hole covers when they're traveling" meanwhile my brain goes "who brings a man hole cover in their car with them?" The point is still the same, none of these things are realistic to be performed by the audience, they are testing this because it's fun and entertaining to figure out the question "would it work?" And that's why i loved mythbusters.
There's a great sci fi short story "What do you do with a chocolate covered manhole cover?" by Larry Niven. Turns out it's an alien's test for intelligence!
I grew up watching these guys and I’ve learned so many things from all of them. They were and still are proof that you can be really freaking smart and have fun all at the same time.
You know, I can confidently say that i think RU-vid’s algorithm is watching out for us. Every once in awhile it just revives a gem, sometimes from over a decade ago, and everyone seems to bond over it. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the most random video at 3 am that I grew to appreciate.
This video reminds me of the time I went to a race, and at the end they brought out a bunch of cars without the back wheels. There was sparks everywhere and I thought it absolutely brilliant.
For those wondering why this is appearing in their list of recommended videos, it may be due to the recent announcement of the show returning to air a new season. deadline.com/2017/07/science-channel-mythbusters-return-date-mysteries-of-the-missing-series-hosted-terry-oquinn-tca-1202136003/
how did I get here? I have never even seen this show, or watched a RU-vid video about anything to do with the show, and then somehow I am now here, glorious
Jeronimo M with the new ad contract taking money away from people that youtube deems "not liberal enough" most people quit making videos, therefore most decent content creators aren't around anymore.
Optical Clarity that's like me, I upload videos where I talk about how i want to upload content of me hunting and fishing. I dip and I show my confederate battle flag. I show that I'm a Christian, a conservative, and I listen to rock. Those reasons and just any one reason alone is a reason that youtube wants to try to keep my from making money. I didn't join youtube for a job but for something to do. A little money here and there for taking time out of my day to entertain other people would be nice but I'm not complaining. However due to the fact that I'm not a liberal that makes youtube not wanna advertise on my content. Not only is that biased but it's also discrimination. I get that everyone has their own political views but that doesn't mean you have to discriminate against people with diffent views. Most people are blind and oblivious to this and jump on people like me who wanna spread the truth. But put yourself in our position then you'll realise we're not complaining. Just merely spreading facts.
it was the algorithm decided to show us the clip from the show and then linked us to them talking about it. RU-vid's algorithm is such fucking luck atm and it's messing with people's lives. They'll face problems like uber and deliveroo soon
NeOn say you're a RU-vidr that relys upon RU-vid for money and you get ill for a fortnight and can't upload. You get no sick pay and when you get back the algorithm won't show your videos to any of your old subscribers and you essentially have to start again. Take tobuscus for example with 6 million subs but now fewer than 100k views per video after he had to deal with depression after a fake rape allegation
The RU-vid suggest algorithm is like roulette, you never know what you'll get when you refresh. Sometimes a winner, sometimes a loser. This has helped me find and subscribe to channels I didn't know existed.
