Does the water that got drained out of your plastic tub hurt the soil? I want to figure out where to dispose of the water after buffering, and don't want to damage anything in the garden. Thanks!
Manufacturers often put dehydrating chemicals into coco so they can package it easier. not too good for plants, thats for sure! I dump mine where nothing will grow.
The water you drain after hydrating the brick should be thrown out, as it may contain salt and other contaminants. The spent buffering solution however will be rich in potassium (and some sodium, so be warned), and can be used to fertilize other plants you may have that are fruiting or flowering. One application of this stuff isn't going to do any harm, however continual, repeated use throughout the growing season might cause some sodium toxicity issues.
What brand coco coir are you using. I recently ordered the gro med coco coir with added nutrients N.P.K. and because it's already rich in nutrients with balanced PH and high CEC but I believe it still needs to be buffered with calcium and magnesium.
Thank you for sharing. I really needed to know what to do with the one I bought.Do I still need to get the mix you put in the water. If you could reply I would appreciate it.
how did you like cocotek? the product has been around for several years, yet i can find virtually ZERO information or customer feedback about it. it's super frustrating since paying for nutes seriously adds up, but if i could find something that produces even decent results, but saves me money i'd be satisfied.
Some people recommend buffering the coco much longer. 24 hours.. or 8 hours x2. Double-buffering means you soak them in EC 2.0 cal-mag solution 8 hours. Then rinse away the solution and add a fresh cal-mag for another 8 hours.
@@romellojames4548 someone commented on cocoforcannabis's video that if you don't rinse the coco after buffering it will kill any clones or seedlings you plant in it
You can re-use coco coir for subsequent grows, but it's highly advisable that you include an enzyme (Cannazyme, for example) in your nutrients that breaks down the dead root material. For a first run in new coco, you don't really need the enzyme until/unless the plants become root bound in their pots (like the last 4 weeks maybe, depending). To re-use the same coco, run the enzyme from start to finish.
the point is that coir absorbs and steals the nutrients from waterings. we buffer coir to prevent this from happening. the cal mag we are adding here is not used for the plant, it is to prevent the coir from absorbing the nutes in our water..if you don't buffer then you will have extreme deficiencies regardless of how much you try to add through watering.
You're gonna have to add them sooner or later as the Coco will steal them. Easier to add them in the beginning so you don't have to do the problem solving later
