It will always depend on your formulation. Handmade soaps will always be softer than commercial soaps. When we formulate our own soap, higher hardness makes the soap bar less conditioning. Hence I cannot pin down specific values because it will depend on preference. I made this calcutor at www.mysoapcalc.com/soap feel free to use it. To me, as long as the value falls within the range (the print out will show the specifications) then it is good. Higher is always better.

Nice info, by the way, I made my olive sunflower soap, I notice this morning there's an oil on the top, oil separation I think, I mold it on the transparent tupperware that's why it's its visible, the 3/4 buttom is like a soap in cloudy yellowish color but o on the top there is a clear oil, is it OK? I didn't open yet, bec I know it takes 3 days to harden the soap on the mould.

I've seen lots of videos of you experimenting with soaps and we've decided to make on. We're making a soap with aloe vera and blueternate oil, it is for our research and we want to test the hardness of it during its curing process. What can you suggest other than fruit Sclerometer? It's very expensive to buy equipments since we are only students. Thanks
