I have an MSW. I graduated 8 years ago and have never used it. I just recently decided to start looking into medical social work.

In Canada you need a Master in social work to provide counseling.

And even a master doesn’t grant you access to you’re own sessions

I have always had an interest in psychology and wanted to do Social Work until I started working at hospital on the front line and started questioning my first choice since the emotional impact SW can have can get overwhelming

can a nursing graduate opt for masters of social work ? if yes, is it a good option if someone wants to increase there options like i'll have option to work in clinical as well as non clinical side of healthcare. or there is thing like nursing is more prestigious or high status job than social worker i'm just confused.💮

Yes, you can. Depends on the specific program's prerequisites and required competences. Some places also offer bridge programs from nursing to social work to complete the degree in a shorter period of time. You will have to pass a licensure exam to be an LCSW, so that entails another board examination, clinical hours, and state licensure. With that degree, you can open your own private practice and provide counseling or be a social worker in a variety of settings. Working in private practice is probably the most lucrative option. Hard to compare prestige in these roles. As the master's prepared nursing equivalents are pretty well respected also.
