It feels like F-Zero 99 was made to gauge the interest for the series.

You know, the other puppet Nintendo RU-vidr, Arlo, used to have it bad as well, with Pikmin and Metroid on constant long hiatuses, and Paper Mario having lost the original formula for so long, but now he's feasting with Metroid Dread, Pikmin 4, and the Thousand Year Door remake! It's always still possible for the franchises you love to have a chance once more...

So many people have been overly harsh to F-Zero 99, glad you came around.

I get where you were coming from with how 99 games aren't even on the same level as retail spin-offs, but for all we know, Nintendo could be developing a new fzero for Switch 2 and made this to put the fzero name on players' radar

I expected a Mario vs. Donkey Kong game in the direct after that leak. What I did not expect was an OG Mario vs. Donkey Kong game that people actually wanted!

The thing that really scares me about 99 is that this really could be the definitive nail in an already acupunctured coffin. It's a gimmick game locked behind their shitty online service built on the most basic F zero, in a genre seen by most people as a joke or overdone. Nintendo will look at the low numbers this will almost definitely pull and say "oh, guess nobody wants more F zero. Dumpster it for another 20 years" despite this being neither a draw for new players nor a service to fans. You weren't too hard on it, this shit is crushing to anyone holding out for F-zero. Maybe it's fun, I don't know. I'll play it anyway just in the hopes that other fans are thinking the same to bump numbers, but either way I feel the point stands. I'd love to be wrong, though.

Yeah, I gotta agree. F-Zero 99 feels just as tone-deaf as Federation Force did. Sure, it’s cool that we got SOMETHING, but…is that really it? What happens when it goes down just like Pac-Man 99? Are we just back to square one?

I am pretty sure if TTYD does not sell it's because the last Paper Mario games had something to do with it.

They're making F Zero 99 cheap as hell to gauge fan interest while not spending a lot of money. If it does good they'll make the game you're describing

When I came back from work I saw F-Zero99 as a YT recommended video (someone I was sub was livestreaming) I clearly thought this would be some Fan Made Troll Game. This could not be true, it is just a cruel joke, I know FULL WELL that Nintendo will not make another game of said series.... And that I should be happy with what I got....and what I might I can get from Japan when I get the chance in the future.... There is NO WAY!!!! That Nintendo make a new F-Zero game - NO WAY!!! - no matter how small or simple, NOT TODAY, NOT TOMORROW, NOT IN MY LIFE TIME, NEVER... And then I saw it... And here it is.....;-; And I am happy.

I mean there’s always the possibility of free updates? I hope we get more machines and customization options. Making my own machine in GX was the coolest thing ever.

F-Zero 99 is a great game. It's sad that there aren't any newer vehicles put into the SNES style, or artwork. I really like Octoman, and the Skull, I was hoping they would show up. I'm still angry at Nintendo for putting in Peachette instead of King Bob-Omb.

lol how did you make the connection to federation force and hey pikmin and still doompilled yourself into believing this idea that "it still doesnt have a future". Its obvious that its basically the same thing: 'c-tier franchise has been gone for a while, lets put out something to test the waters and get non super fans to at the very least think of the franchise and if it goes well, good.' Mark my words, the franchise will prob just actually get a new game. There's no way in hell nintendo at peak popularity (now) will not attract new people to fzero with a free multiplayer game when doing the same in wii u/3ds era with pikmin and metroid led to where we are now with both franchises (a p good spot). Specially pissed you mention this idea of "uuhhh its a new game but its not on store shelves". yea, its a free game. this is arguably better if you actually just see this as what it is: a new low cost development way to inject life into the series with a fun accesible idea. (guess what, the "i want cheaper games made by smaller teams that get payed more" results in stuff like this. and thats good). A lot of people will get interested in the franchise because of this. Simple as.
