Lopez opens up dynamics in songs that no other drummer can touch. He is a special drummer and any band with him behind them feels it. It's good to hear you again my friend. You are a special talent. Opeth, Amon, Soen... I don't mind; as long as your behind the kit. Cheers.
Gone from your side, break one lie with a sigh, with a sigh In your words, burned since long, seasons change as I wait Radiant radiate, all but here Guiding light dims the dawn, posed appease cause to seize all the signs faith misled, come the tide doubts subside Lost in yourself, empty words, forsaken what used to be within me Scars on your hands from nails that are worn, our loss resign in failure Source of deceit
+Steven Nunn Agreed. I also believe that people who know, love and enjoy music -in all diverse genres- dont go around accusing musicians 'stealing' entire genres. Enjoy the music people, be inspired to create , do good and be kind (but take no shit ;) )
musicians got basis to make their music. And in this case is obviously a fucking copy cat because they use the same metrics and sincope with silences that made tool original. also the bass performance with leading and funk style. Its more more obvios when the singer sing th same way of voice line. non talented bands can lie to the audience but not to other muscicians . Its awful and sad to people steal others talent an make money with ignorant fans
Aldo Vázquez Hurtado dude by your logic Haken is copying Dream Theater... or all death metal has been copied from cannibal corpse... I love tool and I love this guy's not because they sound like tool but for their own merit.. tabula rasa is a masterpiece.. just don't call fans ignorant..
Duke Jökull Esquire Don Rúnar crazy Sigurðarson don't buy into the whole fanboy renaming gender bullshit dude.. cannibal corpse is death metal period.. just like Nile and deicide
Joel's vocals remind me more of MJK's work with A Perfect Circle than with Tool... and there is an overall APC feeling around this song. Great work, great band. And, God, DiDiorgio is AMAZING.
@@blppt that’s what session musicians do they come in do they’re job rarely stick around then go to another gig and usually do tours and such with they’re biggest band like testament
@@ethan_6strings186 I don't think Steve is considered a "Session" musician in the purest sense---he's been in Sadus forever, and he's been in Testament for years now.
@@blppt well sadus is a bit different because he was it’s co founder testament just like him and he likes testament he is technically a session bassist but not in the normal sense think of him like a modern version session bassist
Just hearing this band because of Martin Lopez, to be honest. This guy will fade without being recognized in music as he should. I mean, of course he will remembered for his work in Opeth, but i feel its not enough. Guy got mad skills, a lot of groove. After opeth he just disappeared.
RipleyE2092 Man I want to thank you so much for introducing me to leprous. I never would have heard of them if I hadn't come across your comments. I just listened to the price and immediately send it to my brother in Norway we are huge music lovers and musicians and always looking for a new sound
Maynardj NP! More people need to listen to Leprous. Their first album (Tall Poppy Syndrome) has a tiny hint of progressive death metal , but still retain the impressive blends of prog metal, prog rock and avant-garde metal, which made them Leprous in the first place. My personal favourite album from them is Bilateral.
just because this band plays the same genre tool does, it doesn't mean they are a copycat! There are a lot of great bands who play the same genre but they are not copycats of each other! Saw Soen last night and they fucking killed it!!! Awesome band!
Dude this song is absolutely awesome. Period. Period. That baseline the drums the haunting vocals. Period. Period I don't understand people's criticism of this band. Very pretty. But then again the majority of people are sheep and idiots
I been looking for something like this, I am obsesses with Tool and have been listening to them for over 10 years,I always look for music kind of like them and I have not been able to find any expect for this. so this will help me kind of listen to something different for a while....
I met Martin Lopez when he was still with Opeth, queit but cool, nice dude. Missed him and was worried he'd never come back to music so you can imagine how stoked I was when I found Soen with Martin Lopez killing it on the drums again. One of the best drummers of all-time IMHO and Soen wearing some similarity on their sleeves, they still have their own voice, writing some amazing songs, if it's good music and you like it, that's all that matters.
Still, going off subject now. This video is about Soen and not drummers. Point is epic video with amazing drummer. Stated that Lopez is the most creative drummer I knew at that time and you went on about the little things that didn't even change my opion. Congratulations
I just checked about 1 min into 2 clips of him for Grog and Scent of Death and got to say, I like what I see. Great technique, speed sounds fast, would like to hear the power on it live though. Not much creativity in the songs so far, but have to listen to more songs to judge fair. I'll probably come back later to you in the week and let you know what I think if that realy matters, haha.
Excellent cymbal work which is a point for creativity (9). He's not really one for double bass per such, but he is no stranger to going from full-leg to ankle-motion in a matter of seconds, so a manner of double bass technique from what I saw, although not much hand technique. Sure he uses double strokes to get off quick tremolo-type beats, but that's no major cry for technical drumming (4). Gearge Kollias took the Swivel-Techique to a whole new level, which IS infact a technique
See that's exactly it. Why is he so good to me? The way he plays like in the Disasterpiece song, the way he brings out the guitar and almost shape the vocals at some stages too. Most people go for either fast or creative. I feel get a balance. Plus we're going a little of topic now. This is a video the most creative drummer I know, so lets cycle back to Lopez? :P
Those are two distinctly separate questions, and so I will go about answering them individually. Firstly, do metal bands write their own lyrics? Yes. Certainly some band might have a lyricist, (such as was the case king crimson on their debut) or may derive his lyrics from source material , but to be brief, most metal bands compose their own lyrics. Now for the latter question: Do they write their own music? Yes. Unequivocally. Clear enough?
Bring more drummer, I'm up for it :D As far as "comment voting" goes, I'm not phased, cause it's fickle. I carry on to you what alot of people don't want to hear cause they think metal players are junkies and they lack creativity. Same goes for the metal players who think speed is everything. Find a balance.
I didn't know that... Still I prefer to listen to Soen... Well... let's see what they're up to... things are tougher nowadays... The new album will either resurrect them or bury them for good...
You ought to check out Porcupine Tree sometime. Probably start with 'In Absentia' as it is one of the more accessible albums to start with and pretty great all the way through.
