I have black hair and brown eyes (east Asian) and a soft summer. There are many of us 😅 you might want to look at how personal color is done in east Asia as the rules mentioned in this video don’t seem to apply to Asians. I got draped by a Korean analyst with extensive experience looking at Asian skin tones. We have a lot of nuance and variety of skin tones.

I agree. I think Soy ASMR (she has a YT channel), she's Korean, is also a summer, but I forgot which type. I watched her color analysis vid some time ago and the winter colors looked too strong for her.

I was typed by draping as a deep winter but some of the brights are just too bright. The soft summer colors look great as long as they are deep because otherwise they are too soft. I am looking forward to their exploration of the 16 palette system but I also just go for slightly grayed versions of the colors in my palette.

I am not high contrast like you and only partially Asian, but I am medium contrast, so my hair and skin won't kind of blend into each other if you squint your eyes. I'm a Soft Autumn. So, with all respect to the authors of this channel, I completely agree that they should look at higher contrast Soft people

@@affectojfgidi1246 I agree. The channel owners should also examine people or celebrities (since pics of celebs are available) of other ethnicities. They've featured Zendaya (who is mixed race) but so far, most of their examples are white/ Caucasian.

Love this mother-daughter duo! I'm a 52 years young soft summer. When I was a little girl my hair was golden blonde. Later on, it changed to greenish ash blonde. It was matching with my green greyish eyes and at school they used to tease me for my green hair. For the last ten years I dyed my hair to cover my greys, but artificial ash blonde is terrible. For a while I dyed my hair auburn and it looked quite nice. Aas I reached my 50s I started to notice that that hair color was making me look tired. Three months ago I decided on doing a big pixie chop and leave my natural hair. And now I look even younger! Without knowing anything about color analysis I always loved the muted soft summer palette. Those are my favorite colors. And many hairstylists should study color analysis in depth. Because some don't understand that a soft/muted person won't grey white or salt and pepper. My greys are silvery blonde, they reflect light. They are not white.

I love the tip about wearing colors/tones within two shades of each other! Makes total sense and I could immediately scan and find past outfits in my mind that would've worked better had I stuck to this. I personally love vibrant, high contrast coloring...alas, clothing in that coloring often looks like a costume on me. Luckily I love (most of) my natural palette as well! Also, I'm a fellow member of the invisible eyebrow society 😂 The struggle is real! Jajaja. So glad mine have started darkening more in the past ten years, AND that my sister finally convinced me to fill them in if I'm in the mood for makeup. What a difference to break up the space from eyeballs to forehead hairline!!!

I am softy too :) and when Sarah explains trick with pulling out her hairs back , finally I understood what happens to me ! When I leave my hair loose, I can wear warm colors like some shades of beige and brown and greens that I love, my hairs add some warmness to my face . But when I pull it back, I definitely can't wear those colors , they look off , my cool skin tone dominate me . And my eyes are getting more blue or more green , depending what color I wear close to my face , I find that hilarious and I actually like it 😅

The “ish” thing was the most helpful definition of Soft I’ve heard yet! I really liked the example of how you shift hair/lips to accommodate wearing a deep color. Any thoughts on how to do that for a light color, or, because i am both warmish and coolish, a decidedly warm color or a decidedly cool one? And is it safe to assume that the hardest colors for me as a soft dominant person will be brights?

I was very blonde with blue eyes as a child (dark blonde now) and it took me so so so long to realize why so many cool, Summer colors didn’t suit me when I was supposed to be the perfect example of Summer. Being soft/muted puts me closer to neutral than cool and dusty blues and roses look great on me. Anything with a bit of gray or taupey brown is great. Just took me 40 years to figure it out. Also, agree about all the names for dark blonde: dishwater, dirty, mousey. Such terrible judgment in a few adjectives. For now I’m going with “mushroom blonde.”

I call my hair color bronde, it’s exactly between the lightest brown and darker blonde, and naturally very streaky, it has gold streaks in it. I had white hair as a child, then became golden blonde around age 7, then it gradually darkened to my adult color.🙂

I love this explanation of soft. I also think it might be helpful to point out that a good way to tell is to look at a grayscale picture of yourself. If there is lower contrast within the picture, you might be soft. I also think it is helpful to point out that deep skin tones can be soft, especially if the whites of the eyes aren’t super bright, or if you are that silvery green type of olive (think Zoe Saldana). I am typed as a deep winter by draping but some of the brighter colors, optic white and the brighter greens, pinks and blues, most notably, just don’t sit well on me at all. The deeper colors of soft summer can work better but some of those are too soft. I am really looking forward into your foray into 16 palettes, as I seem to be more of a soft winter.

I think Soft coloring is best described as a blended or delicate, low to medium contrast, grayed-down look. As in my photo here, nothing in my coloring really stands out. I just don’t look my best in bright, clear colors, they overwhelm my delicate coloring, so one doesn’t see me, just the bright color. I favor muted/soft colors, mostly lighter ones, and cooler ones. So tones (gray, or black and white, are added to the hue) are better than shades (black added) or the lightest tints (white added). Pure, saturated hues don’t work, so I avoid brands that push them, like Talbots and Boden. (The hue is the basic color, like red, blue, green, etc.).

I've been loving your channel! I do want to make a case for someone with high contrast being soft :) I am Hispanic and my home season is True Winter (cool undertone, mid skin tone, deep brown/black eyes, deep brown/black hair) BUT I am very olive (WARM overtone + lots of gray and green) I can still look harmonious in soft colors regardless of temperature which contradicts true winter. I actually feel like I look too extreme if I am fully true winter without adding something soft or a little warm. Being olive makes the color seasons a bit more difficult lol Much like Sarah, I can also camouflage seasons. I can do my own versions of bright spring, any winter, deep autumn, soft summer, etc. I would probably categorize myself as a soft winter, but there aren't too many resources for that.

I want to be a soft autumn. I love the colors in the soft autumn palette. I can't figure out if they're my best though. I do look good in those colors, but not sure better than true autumn colors. I definitely am soft, just not sure it's my dominant trait. I do have ish in me, reddish, blondish brownish hair. Greenish, tealish, grayish eyes, with yellow, orange and brown. Not much contrast. Still I think warm may be more dominant.

Hi. I think you can choose to buy clothes in the 2 subseasons (warm & soft autumn). It's hard to pigeonhole one's self into 1 palette only, esp since those colors may not be available in your place (or the size may be different, etc). For me, I'm a warm autumn but I sometimes wear dark autumn colors (because my hair is dark, I'm a POC). I also have some soft autumn colors - they don't make me shine but I wear them when I want to be more invisible. Good luck in exploring your colors!

Pretty positive I'm a soft summer! In grayscale, I'm lower contrast. As pale as I am compared to the depth of my eyes and hair, I thought it'd be higher contrast but it's different. The contrast is there, but much more grayed out and muted and not at all stark. I have deep blue gray eyes, cool nuetral skin, the softened contrast. My hair is so dang orange though lol! That gave me pause tbh. It's got that "ishy", toned down ginger brown quality though so I suppose that kinda fits too

I can see so much of myself in soft! Golden blondish reddish ash-ish hair, green eyes, blonde eyebrows, neutral skin tone. Not a lot of contrast over here! 😂 Super bright colours just wear me, not the other way around. One thing I am struggling with that might be a great video topic is adjusting for being on camera. I work from home and am on Teams calls all day. The beautiful summer blues and pinks wash out immediately looking like a dirty white shirt on camera. So I wear a lot of royal blue. Thoughts on finding best colours for virtual meetings would be great.

When I was growing up and especially when I was a young woman, I was always frustrated because I felt like I was all one color, which was dull gray.. I have blonde hair, which went from light to dark ash as I grew older, and I have light skin and green gray eyes with blue rims. I always felt like I wanted to be one of those people who had bright eyes and bright lips and shiny bright hair. But when I would try the kind of makeup that should have made me shiny and bright, it just never worked. It just made me blotchy. I finally understood when I learned the three aspects of light/dark, warm/cool, soft/bright. Now I try to play up my features rather than fight them. I have a feeling a lot of people who are soft know it, even if they don’t know the name, esp if they’re summers. And yes, my eyebrows are the bane of my existence, but I am afraid of microblading. Also, it’s the soft that gets me in my color palette. I can find my colors, but I have way too many bright colors for me because it’s just too hard to find soft.

I am a SA with a bit higher contrast than Sarah. Just my 2 cents for the data! My hair color is just slightly darker and my eyebrows are visibly darker than my hair. And yes my eyebrows, besides being darker, are also cooler than my hair for some reason😭😂 funny thing

Frankly, I think it’s a beautiful combination. I’ve always been jealous of Sara’s lashes and brows. -Lucinda

Just a small criticism about your delivery, its confusing when you say your soft but keep saying eyes are bright and hair is vibrant, just stick to vocab that makes sense please 🙏🏻 im struggling to understand

We will be mindful. These concepts are surprisingly difficult to articulate, so they must be difficult to follow. This is why we are working to provide charts and graphs as much as we can.

She’s absolutely gorgeous, the video doesn’t do her justice. (not just because I’m her Mama)

If your daughter is “soft”, how does the bright red lipstick look so great ?! I’m a soft summer & could never wear that red on my lips.

Two seasons can be soft- summer and autumn. As an autumn, he hair is deep, the contrast between the hair and her very very fair skin tone gives her extra latitude in depth of color. Play special attention to when she pulls her hair back. On those days he dominant characteristic is her fair skintone, so she sometimes lets loose with a cooler more vivid lipstick. But I hear you, now that I am older and all my characteristics blend together, some of her shades make me look like the joker.
