John Gibbons is a sports Osteopath and a lecturer for the 'Bodymaster Method ®' and in this video he is treating the hip joint using muscle energy techniques (METs) and in particular the Piriformis and gluteal Muscles. The piriformis muscle attaches from the anterior surface of S2-S4 and travels through the greater sciatic foramen to the greater trochanter and is an extensor, abductor and lateral rotator of the hip joint. The piriformis has a relationship to the sciatic nerve and is considered that this nerve can travel through the muscle in 20% of the population and cause a sciatic type of symptoms called a piriformis syndrome, for the majority the nerve will pass underneath this muscle. John also demonstrates the Ely test for the rectus femoris and uses a muscle energy technique to lengthen this hip flexor.
Want to learn how to apply these techniques as well as other Physical Therapy CPD Courses then look on www.johngibbonsbodymaster.co.uk

This was very informative. Last December my piriformis muscle bothered me. The pain was so unbearable I couldn’t even walk and I thought I would never walk again. I was only 39 years old and spent a month in a rehabilitation hospital. I never cried so much in life thinking that I would be in a wheelchair or walker for the rest of my life. Thankfully months later it “healed”. I put quotation marks because I can still feel it but no pain. It scares me that it will happen again. I wish I had this while I was in the hospital. I never received treatment like this.

Hey John, you may not offer this in your course or videos, in your practice if you’re dealing with an F.A.I hip pathology, have you used the hip decompaction maneuver to centralize the joint and inhibit the piriformis in this way? I have a 70 year old female, who’ve I’ve been treating this condition in a maintenance mode for about 5 years! I’d like to apply your technique ( and I have) but it doesn’t seem to change gait? She is challenged by not being able to walk past 10 minutes for the past 6 months. She expresses pain emanating from her right gluteal area, and the left hip has the FAI? I’d like to take your course with the hip/ pelvis if it will give me the discernment of what to keep regulated? Before, my hip decompactions did the trick, before the 6 month mark, now not so much? Should we get another MRI,on both hips to see if the arthritic changes have progressed? Or if the right hip has any degenerative changes? Sorry for the long message, but if you recommend that If I take your course, and it will help my patient, then I will! Cheers Mate, Much obliged, Jean LaFleur- Rkin, CAT(c), CSCS

Try treating the Pec's they often create a tug of war between the upper traps. This allows the scapulas to naturally retract and you will often find hypertonicity in the traps naturally decreases.
@Tachyon111
@Tachyon111 3 года назад
@@chadfriel2068 Amen brother! 100% true! + Subscap+Biceps actually +anything that crosses, passes or attaches to the scapula at some point. Scapula causes upper traps to tense up. Release all that I mentioned. You will be blown! I guarantee!!!

Sir, I have a 63 yr/old male in a normal gait, his right knee raises quickly and abruptly. When I inquired. It's a problem my doctors haven't diagnosed. With unknown etiology, denial of injury, denial of any known cause. I'm a licensed nurse and my guess would be hip flexor? In this video you've address if a condition exists while working through your assessment of the gentleman's left hip. A comment made was might be "arthritic hip joint"? I would like to guide my friend back to his orthopedic physician with a "possible cause"? Please. Yes I realize it's similar to me asking you to asses with fragmented symptom of a man's gait. It reminded me as a young boy I'd have a propeller controlled by a rubber band. If the rubber band it too tight? Is the hip flexor that or other etiology that takes place to move right leg forward in his gait, it has been three years since first symptoms. Retired bus driver. However he used to ride bicycle for very long distances in his 30's, 40's and 50's he is 63. Thank you if you can or can't help. Thank you for your videos! You've helped me! Thank you!
