SOG used to be the joke of the knife world. Their knives are much better now, but alot of still refuse to give SOG a chance unless if the knife is practically free.
They went from being respected with their Seki Japan stuff 10 years ago, to being laughed at for their crappy Walmart stuff to trying to get back to respectful with these new models. I hope some of the 10 I sent Dirk to review are good.
I still love the old Japanese made SOGs. Not manufactured as good as modern knives, but I find them interesting enough to pick up when I can. So far I'm up 3 different versions of Tomcat 3, 2 titanium Vision, an Architect, a Stingray, and a Facet.
The reason why you're feeling detent lash is because it's a cross bar lock and similarly to a Benchmade it doesn't have a detent ball/hole that keeps the blade in place while closed. This is why companies tend to keep flipper tabs off of cross bar locking knives because they lack the "build up" pressure that is created by a frame/liner lock detent ball and hole. I have never taken a SOG apart per se, but I imagine they use springs similar or possibly identical to the omega springs used by other companies as well. Cool video, thanks for the look.
Actually I like your SOG slip joint better than this model, can you tell me the name of the slip joint model I hope I won't have to swim to Japan to get one😂
