SOG Trident AT Knife Disassembly and Deassist

Bro I really love this knife. I'm on my third. Last night it deployed in my pocket and it got me on the finger. Gonna take your advice and sand it. As a welder I go 100 mph banging into stuff leaning over it welding. So my third Trident finally went off after a heck of a night at work. That's not a reflection on Sog. Who's Really making some of the very Best knives finally. Keep it up Sog. Great show btw. Just chiming in. I also like the Aegis Assisted probably as much and a little more that Trident. Both awesome assisteds. I think they fire as hard as the best automatic Benchmade. The D2 Cryo on these is the best I've seen anywhere.

David - thanks for the video and feedback. Glad you like the understated branding on the new line. There's more differences between AT-XR and XR than are visible at first glance, including tang geometry, the interaction between the pivot spring and suck-back springs, and how the XR-Lock interfaces with the tang in the closed position - in short, it's not really a great platform for making a manual unless you want to take a Dremel to the tang and reshape it. But hey ... looking at everyone's feedback, we might make an XR version. I'm going to do a quick video to show how to disassemble and reassemble easily across all the other AT-XR Lock knives, but the easiest way to remove the safety is to loosen all the fasteners and then you can just pop the safety out by prying it with a flathead. I know a lot of EDC users don't love a safety, but the main reason we have a safety is because assisted opens do open in pockets inadvertently and damage clothes and flesh and the targeted users we spoke to did want a safety, albeit ambidextrous. Anyway, if you don't want it ... remove it. Thanks again, great vids!

the pummel acctually works better as a glass breaker than the glass breaker. the seatbelt cutting feature works well

I'm glad you disassembled it on camera. You should use a spudger for prying. I think I would delete the lanyard toop also and maybe 3D print a different backspacer.

I made my Trident AT-XR a manual. I had to do some grinding to the tang of the blade as well as remove the spring. It now has drop-shut action!

I hate that they ruined the amazing smoothness of the xr lock by assisting the trident, flash and aegis. I got the trident and got all screws out but the pivot so far. I don't get assisted knives at all. Get an auto or don't.

The safety is needed for the belt cutter to work properly.
