I get how happy you are out in nature I'm going to be camping in a tent for 6 weeks soon and I'm 62 and people think im crazy but it refreshes my soul.
Same here 62 my friend is 64 we love camping, our last trip was in the high 40's we had heaters for our cube tents. It was so much fun. We're in Florida
What a great video!! You did such a beautiful job on your shelter! You and Akela are definitely in your element. Your dad is up there saying, " That's my girl." 🩷
I totally agree with you at min: 16:05 When I´m in the forest, alone,in quietness, just wind and bird sounds, I´m total fine and happy. Okay, here in south Germany our forests aren´t as "wild" as yours, but the basic thing behind it, is the same. Regards Torsten
Seemed like you & Akela relaxed there. Nice, comforting shelter too. Just struck me several times in this video, Akela looks absolutely majestic in some of her poses. I love the interaction between the 2 of you. I have a similar relationship to my best friend, a boxer mix. I never feel alone or lonely. Unconditional love. Enjoy your videos!!
What a beautiful place! Could I do this? No. But I do appreciate you taking us along. I have seen that look Akela gave you in the beginning of the video. When I took my very spoiled dog on his first tent camping trip...he gave that look. "Are you serious right now? We have a king-size bed...do you really expect me to sleep on the ground?" I bought a camp trailer, he still wasn't crazy about camping. But at least we had a queen size bed. I have said this before, but I love the respect you have for Akela, her needs and her feelings. I am curious about the butter to help with her hydration...tell me more.
I SO MUCH relate to what you are saying about the joy of being in the outdoors taking care of yourself. When I was 27, I went to Telluride, CO and spent the summer in my pup tent 3 miles out from town (Eider Creek) . I had never done anything like that at all, but I LOVED it. That was 45 years ago, and it s still one of my best times in my life. I wound up spendng two years in Telluride, winters n a house in town and summers in either my tent or tipi sitting for friends that lived in the forest up Eider Creek while they traveled. I grew up in a really big city. I have always just loved nature…..and adventure. I am now, at 72, traveling the West living in my Subaru Outback. I think I just love being outdoors and I have always wanted to be independent and take care of myself
My interest in survival training is what led me to the nomad life. You've actually reminded me 😊 I've made my bus just like an apt and have gotten comfortable 😬 I need to do this! Great video!
Like most comments here - great video. I learned that you made a great flat bread; and how to build a shelter in the snow. Wow...thanks for your parents who taught you so much.
You, my dear, are a bad ass for sure! So interesting to see Akela assume her role as guardian while you were out in nature; she was vigilant. Your shelter looked really cozy (day 2 and 3) Such a beautiful time, thank you for sharing it.
It was amazing to watch you build your little hit for you and Akela,it was fascinating to see how you built it, you going to find water for your use, Akela standing guard and how sweetly she asked you to take her show off. You are such a strong amazing woman with a beautiful fur baby your family would all be very proud of you as are you subscribers👍❤❤👃🏻❤❤
😀 AhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhMAZING share and Video! LOVED IT! ThaNKS so MUCH for sharing, at 72 I definitely could not do that :) Also LOVED Akela's Fleece coat, it looked so good on her :) ALL the BEST and Cheers from the SOGGY PNWest! :)
My wife and camping buddies have the same feeling outdoors. There's nothing like it and when we try to invite folks to join us and we hear them talk about how that doesn't sound fun or it would be too hard it bums us out that they'll never experience that feeling. It's not for everyone though but I certainly love it and seek places that are wild and challenging to make comfortable. You are very lucky to have family that insilled this value; were doing the same with our kids in hopes that they have the outlook you have.
It's so good to have another video from you... I've missed being reminded of how to appreciate the natural world around us and not always be trying to create conditions that break our connection with nature. I'm living in what others would consider to be difficult conditions but I've learned to just accept that some days I have no water because the supply pipe is frozen. It's no big deal and eventually it thaws for a while. Thank you, as always for bringing joy into my life by sharing yours!
No coffee?! I'm immediately heading back... Seriously though, I like the way you describe the joy of being in the wilderness. I have backpacked since high school, all over the west, several times in Alaska, and twice in New Zealand. Getting too old now, so I am looking at doing the van thing. Sort of the same idea; where you stop is home.
The BEST! Haha she would agree with you about the "evil squirrels"! One red squirrel was tormenting her all week out there. It would run from tree to tree and get low enough to be just out of Akela's reach. Over and over again it would play this game. It was hilarious to watch!
U my luv R Amazing... Now I know why Chris Loves U !! U R sooo independent and can pretty much ( not pretty much but DO ) do everything for yourself and it's amazing Just watching you build your tent and your fire get your water it is truly awesome Please stay warm and safe out there by yourself Mucho love from your friend in Michigan Tam 💜💜💜
Type 2 fun is really the most satisfying type of fun/adventure. I always feel happiest when I'm engaging in something that requires work, a bit of discomfort, and challenge. It's deeply satisfying to meet those challenges and enjoy doing it. I also relate to your patch job. My puffy is mended with duct tape.
Linnea, you both looked like you were enjoying yourself and she was in her best life ever. I will be camping out of my vehicle and a tent this summer with 1dog (9 years old) & 2 cats just barely a year old. Will see how it goes, you and your boyfriend are a great inspiration for an older solo female.
Good call on returning to base camp the 1st round. Many people are not inclined to return once they get out there- they think I'll just tuff it out. When you get cold everything takes longer to complete. I just did a winter survival campout with my girls troop and the biggest thing I let them know is that being alive is way more important than the ego. If it is not fun than it's dangerous. You can embrace the suck and still have fun. I was really excited for this video when you mentioned you were hoping to do this before winter hit. And I loved your use of fat wood. Shared with my troop and all my friends that think I'm a freakazoid for enjoying winter camping...LOL.
Im glad you enjoy the outdoors with your side kick there. I was brought up in the outdoors and at 68 yrs old now I still love the great outdoors as you do 🇺🇸👍👍👍👍❤️
When I was your age I loved it. And did do it a few times. It is exhilarating. But I'm 70 years old with arthritis and fibromyalgia so cold hurts BAD. I would maybe try it again in warmer weather though. There is truly nothing like it.
When you're describing comfort or discomfort....it's sometimes a choice between bolstering your emotional/mental comfort while handling the physical discomfort of the wilderness elements, vs the physical comfort of a home while feeling emotionally or mentally unsatisfied or lacking. Balance is good! We need both imo.
Again, I enjoy your videos so much. Things I’ve always wanted to do when I retired. 2 1/2yrs retired now & recently diagnosed w/cancer. Yes, it’s not good. I’m doing my best & following drs orders. My cancer numbers are down. Started at 5600-2400-1000-700. Just did my 4th chemo treatment. Chemo sucks. Still have my hair. Which is a good thing. I think. Lol. However Linnea, your videos have definitely been getting me through this fight. I truly respect & admire you. Thank you. Stay STRONG! Stay HEALTHY! ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@Linneaandakela oh Linnea,, knowing you are living your life to the fullest is extremely gratifying to me. You being in the N woods of Wisconsin & me being down S in New Orleans well, I feel your hug! I thank you. You responding to my post will certainly get me through this week on a high!😊 I’m making it girl. Love you & Aklea! Again, STAY SAFE! STAY HEALTHY! I’m always watching!😊😘✌🏻🙏🇺🇸
This was so fun to watch and it brought back some wonderful memories. Back in the 60s I taught winter survival to Forrest and Park Service personnel from all over the country at Steamboat Springs. ☃️🙏🏼
Hey Linnea! Van lifing from Austin, TX ✌🏻 10:15 wow what a perfect shot of Linnea 😂 And I cant act like youre not filming all this and setting up all these shots in those freezing conditions. Thats freaking amazing and your outlook on life is inspiring and makes me want to get back out into nature! Thank you 🙏🏻
Happy to see you have some bushcraft skills. A van is 1 thing ….. bushcraft is quite another. Food for thought ….. I didn’t see a good bushcraft knife or all weather sleep gear. Wool is your best friend in the cold. Never sleep in your daytime clothes and vice versa. I’ve been doing this for 50+ years and still do. I wish you all the best young lady!
Thank you! I have very good wool base layers that I practically live in, and I use my buck knife for almost everything these days, even though I have a more typical "bushcraft" knife as well. My sleeping gear is rock solid for cold weather! I've been doing stuff like this for years :) Thanks for watching!
@@Linneaandakela Great to hear. When I don’t see certain items or mention of them I tend to get concerned. That’s just a trait of us well seasoned types (ok old timers lol) Happy days in the forest!
Linnea, this has got to be one of my top favorites of your posts. I live in Northern Ontario and this resonated with me. thank you and Akela for this wonderful experience.
I applaud your intuition with Akila and your survival skills are insurmountable. I think I'd gain so much knowledge hanging with you even for a month... You are a hell of a person!
You captured your experience so incredibly well that I felt like I was feeling what you were feeling out there. So beautifully authentic. Thanks for continuing to share your life with us ♥️
This is one of my very favorite videos...I Loved every minute of it. I really admire you. I wish Akela was mine 😂, just kidding of course, but she is one beautiful girl and you are the best mom to her. Till next time 🙂.
I used to winter camp in the Laurentian mountains north of Montreal. We would climb the mountain, dig a hole in the snow and build lean to's from the pine branches then cover it in snow for insulation. 3 nights was usually as long as we could stay out due to extreme temps. Most of my friends thought I was nuts enjoying that experience. Love seeing your joy! So happy that there are other nature "nuts" out there like me. Oh, and bannock was our favorite breakfast over the fire. Great video Linnea!
There must be some comfort in knowing that you can not only survive but flourish in any conditions. I really enjoy seeing how content you are just being with your dog in nature. I can say with complete honesty that I couldn’t do what you have accomplished. I will just live vicariously through you. Stay safe! ✨🐕🦋
You are absolutely amazing! Incredible video! I'm heading out on a 4 month driving trip July 7th! Doing a lot of camping and exploring! You're incredibly inspiring!
People like you who practice living in the wild n how to leave without city and restaurants n grocery stores will be the ones who will survive... I like watching bushcraft things n try n learn few things. You should do a video on how to make bread on the fire n how to cook on the fire im sure more n more people need to relearn or learn that art for the future as prices on things go up n life as we used to know changes...
I loved this video and that you are smart to listen to yourself and Akela😊😊❤️what a beautiful shelter you made😊 Mako always slept in my bag too on the AT but I loved it we stayed toasty warm!!! Thanks so much for your beautiful video!!!
I totally understand your love for being out in the wilderness. I dont get to do it enough but when I am out there is no other feeling like it. I love watching yours and Akela's adventures!
i wish i could still do things like this. i broke my body too many times in too many places so it really does not like the cold. at least i can live the adventure through your experiences.
