Robert, kudos to you for "telling it how it is". Once again, good solid info with no "sales hype". Thanks again, and I look forward to watching your next video.
I also have a Soloshot 3 and wanted to let you know that if you set your tracking a little lower center, you may be able to keep your head in the frame. Also, if you use any video editing software, you may be able to stabilize the video automatically. Otherwise, I love your video and thanks for posting.
All right, good luck, let us know how it goes, it can be a bit tricky to get the tracking to work well every time but when you get it to work, it's awesome!
I'm going to try it out first then if the video doesn't come out, then I'm going to try setting up the zoom and pan like what you did at the Elks Club. Mahalo Bro....
Nice! Here is a pro tip: After calibration when tracking starts the zoom is slightly wider than your setting, then as you move around and the tracking gets more confident, the zoom will tighten up to your setting. However, if you use the manual zoom buttons to tighten your shot before paddling out, you might end up with too much zoom and the camera might lose you as you get further out. In my experience it's better to let the camera "find you" and tighten up on its own - unless you have somebody near the base that can hit the arrows if tracking gets off. Good luck!
blueplanetsurf As you paddle out, use a zig-zag pattern so you get some side-to-side movement, this will help improve tracking faster. Looking forward to some more SUP foil videos!
Actually I think your video looked really good. I usually set my framing to medium for surfing just to be safe, so what you did with really tight framing was impressive.
Thanks for sharing. How long of battery life per session do you get? Did you ever attach an external battery? If so, how big of an external battery mah and how long did it last with and without it?
Thanks for the post. At 2:30 you say that was like 3/4 of a mile from the base, it that correct? That is like 4000 feet, or double what Soloshot says the range is. I'm surprised because I saw another youtube video where a guy says the range is greatly reduced over water as the 2.4GHz tag to base communication is affected greatly over water. If you look at google maps satellite view of the surf spot, do you really think it was close to 3/4 of a mile out? I was thinking of getting one for a surf spot that is 2000 feet out, but I saw the other post that said over water the usable range was like 300 meters (1000 feet). Thanks in advance for any answers on this.
It's probably less than 4000 feet but it is pretty far, a good 10-15 minute paddle to the break. Setting up the tracking is challenging and does not always work but when it does the footage comes out great.
@@blueplanetsurf Can you tell me the surf spot it was shot so I can look it up on google satellite maps and calculate the distance out to the break? I'm debating if I can use it at Kanaha on Maui. Using google satellite views and GPS coordinates Kanaha looks like it will be 2200-2300 feet from the base. Mahalo
@@Destination360 too much to explain. I’ve done tons of trials with it at Kanaha and if I could say multiple answers I would say is No, no, no and yes. Send me a message on my Instagram with same handle. The answer is really it depends on a lot of things.
Thanks for the info for how to get it to work. Took mine to the track yesterday and it looked like it was following me to only get home and find out i was out of frame the whole time. Wish their phone app actually connected to the camera so you can see and make adjustments with it that way. how was it on your next session? did it track better now that you had it dialed in or you have to dial it in every time?
Hi Fred, I’m still only getting good results inconsistently but my buddy just made a video with good tips that I’m going to try out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eIiIXG8h3yo.html
You picked up another Subscriber I been following GivesAMinute from Australia he does different surf projects he mentioned Soloshot and that he has heard nothing but bad reviews. Glad to see some good results. Could you drop him a line let him know your results.
I actually gave up using the solo shot because I had too many failed sessions. I have a friend who figured out how to use it though, he goes through a certain procedure and then it seems to work reliably.
I have not had that issue. Did you try cleaning the contacts? I dry and clean the contacts after every use as salt water and electric current is very corrosive
