Solved: Land Cruiser Prado Engine Light at Idle Error Code 14 1KZ-TE

In this video I talk you through how I fixed a timing issue with my Land Cruiser Prado with 1KZ-TE engine. The engine was running fine, with no noticeable roughness, however at idle the engine light would come on. I checked the code using the diagnostics, which came up as code 14.This is a timing issue, where the ECU detects a discrepancy between the actual crankshaft position and the calculated crankshaft position (more than 7 degrees out). This error normally points to a fuelling issue, and after bleeding the fuel system and testing the injector pump control electronics, the light was still present. Ultimately the issue was that the pump was not mounted to the timing case correctly - it was a degree or two miss-aligned with the timing mark. I hope this video helps someone who was having the same problem that I had!

Thanks Men! Just finished doing it on my prado , year 2000 , it seems to fix the problem and no more check engine light... Thanks alot for posting this video!!!

Hello anyone please help, my 1997 Prado need Map Air Sensor replacement, so I've replaced it but the engine light keep light on whenever i push the power to up to 2rpm more, the engine start to light on

I have a similar issue. Error code 14. Mine in completely random though. It seems to be fine for a week, the the light comes on and it drives like it has no oomph.

Nice. But you still have the “T-belt and battery light on. I’ve found those to be the alternator on mine.. So I replace the regulator and brush.

I have a 2004 3.0D4d prado and the engine light comes on until it’s up to temp... similar thing? Error code P1228

March 2023 and I got this alert :(, I took the mechanic to do general maintenance on the pump, then I told them to align it correctly and they did it 3 times and nothing, the same code still comes out, someone help me , which sensor should be changed? my car is a prado 98 motor 1kz-te

@@nithinmathew6980 My friend solved it, I changed the TCV, the oil pump timing control valve, the check was cleared and the car pushes hard as before.

Hey, sure - I'll try and explain it in the comments here but if it's still not clear I can maybe make another short video. Basically the fuel pump mounts onto 2 studs that extend out of the timing case. The studs go into 2 slots on the front of the fuel pump and its secured by 2 nuts. When you loosen the nuts, the slots allow you to rotate the pump relative to the timing case. This will allow you to adjust the rotation angle of the pump so that the line scribed into the side of the injector mounting flange aligns with the flat machined surface (shown in the video). One other thing - there is a mounting bracket securing the back of the fuel pump to the engine block - you will need to loosen this as well as the 2 nuts at the front of the pump in order to rotate the pump. If you have the 1KZ-TE Engine Repair Manual you can find instructions on page FU-25. Let me know if this still isn't clear.

I have been having this problem for the longest time now. I still need to know exactly what to do about it. Plus mine consumes a lot of fuel, any ideas?

Hi Brian, first I would check that your fuel pump is orientated correctly, with the timing mark aligned with the timing case, like I mention in the video. If it is aligned properly I would try working through the diagnostics flow chart for error code 14, which you can find in the 1KZ-TE workshop manual on pDI-22. Let me know if this helps!

@@KZJ95R So it turns out the injector pump timing was off, I corrected it and went for a drive, and it turns out it is still flushing the Check Engine Light. I'm still suffering from high fuel consumption too. Plus when I floor the acceleration pedal it doesn't go past 2900 RPM. Kindly assist.

I kept timing it wrong on the lower mark on the timing case, what I didn't realize is that I was to use the upper one. No more error code from TCV. What's bothering me remains to be the high fuel consumption issue. I still haven't figured it out yet. Plus I'm certain my Spill valve adjustment is wrong. The tranny got changed to 30-40le. Any advice?
