I have one on my Jeff Loomis Kelly and I absolutely adore it. Having had 2 1000 series models I personally see it as a massive upgrade. It holds tune great, it feels awesome, and flutters like a beast. Plus the grub screw to hold the arm in works much better than the typical screw in type, of course this is all my own opinion. Others have likely had 1000's which they enjoy more than the 1500, hell there are some out there who prefer the special to the original... Some men just want to watch the world burn.
I have a 1500. It stays in tune extremely well. I’ve seen a bunch of videos of people’s expectations when they get a Floyd (crazy whammy squeals) and the reality (constant tuning). That has not been my experience whatsoever with the 1500.
I modded 3 of my Floyd 1000, with a push in bar, Floyd Rose makes these bars and they're about £20 in the UK, add in Stainless Steel screws, and the same on the locking nut and you have a custom 1500 spec trem. The oldest Floyd 1000 trem I have is in a 2008 BC Rich Gunslinger and it's solid, I also have a German unit waiting to go into a future guitar. Awesome content by the way, it's great that someone is cutting a path through all the "mysticism" regarding these trem systems. The push in bar is as close you can get a Floyd to the Gotoh Edge bar feel, and I love it
I bought a Schecter Hellraiser/Solo hybrid Les Paul that came with the 1500 back in 2016. Gotta say its a sweet trem. After I broke it in it works amazing. Going to F.U. Tone upgrade it in the future, brass block, heavy duty springs, and a block stop and shell scream even louder.
I hate my push in bar on my schecters! Always have to use this miniminimini Allen key before and after shows and rehearsals! I never had any problems with my screw in bars on my Floyds and Schallers
Love the info on this. I ordered an OFR from warmoth back in 2001 for one of my guitars and bought the push in arm to replace the screw in one). 20 yrs later, still plays flawlessly. My other guitar is a baretta mutt from mid 80s i had built. Its got a chrome 86 floyd( only push in arms back then). It also still works flawlessly
I have the Hellraiser Hybrid with the FR1500 and the push in arm I found to be well engineered. Inserts in/out quietly and doesn't swing around like unthreaded tremolo, perfect amount of open tension. Worth the added cost.
@@hugomartz1980 Good question, I am not sure. I only know that Floyd Rose makes a 1500-style push-in replacement that works on any FR1000 screw-in type bridge. My other Schecter Hellraiser and Jax V are both screw-in types, so I ordered the Floyd Rose-specific push-in replacement from Sweetwater, $20 to replace them. A little bit of work, but doable and worth it in long run.
A few years ago, I think around the time the sun valley shredder came out, the bridge was a floyd special "hot rod". It was a special base plate with the push in bar and stainless upgrade. I didn't understand why they would upgrade a special like that. I don't believe it had the brass block upgrade either. I have an Apocalypse with the 1500 and a Warlock with an OFR Hot Rod. The biggest difference between the two that I can tell, other than the brass block, is the fine tuners. The tuners on the OFR just seem a tad bit smoother, but almost at a fault because the side of my hand sometimes shifts them a little. I have tons of play time on both and neither seems to have any real wear. The Apocalypse (FR 1500) probably has a bit more play time in fact. I plan on upgrading the block on the 1500 to the fat brass block 1500.
I have an original Floyd Rose on my 1989 Kramer Nightswan Aztec, and a newer 1000 I believe on my Kramer Dave Sabo signature model. My original on my Nightswan is heavily used and abused lol. My new 1000 not quite. But instead of going through all this , I opted to outfit 3 of my tremolo with Fu-tone Brass big blocks and Titanium saddle blocks and screws. Zero issues, amazing reliability and tone!
I bought an LTD kamikaze 4 a couple years ago. It had the original style floyd 1000. I immediately bought a hot rod floyd original to go in it in replacement. I sold that floyd 1000 series on reverb in FIFTEEN MINUTES. I got 200 for mine so only paid 150 bucks for a floyd original with fat brass blocks and stainless steel screws. The guy who bought mine got a spanking brand new one. Hope he liked it. I also swapped the tuners for locking gotoh tuners. Which aren't easy to find for a reverse headstock I had to order them from the EU no one in the US had a left handed set for reverse headstock. Sold the pickups too and replaced them with a screamin demon and a SSL1 vintage staggered in the neck. Added FU tone direct mount pickup system and some green FU tone springs and I have a BEAST of a kamikaze 4. Did about the same thing with an LTD gl200mt. Except I used a JB. They're the guitars in my profile pic...😊
I have a schecter Super Shredder guitar with a 1500 bridge on it. So far so good. I have a schaller on a custom guitar and a 1000 on a Charvel. 1000 and 1500 feel very similar.
So the new Jackson American series soloist sl3’s uses the Floyd rose 1500 I’ve never personally used any of the Korean Floyd’s I’ve always had original German made Floyd’s
I had a schecter with a special "hot rodded" Floyd. It had stainless steel screws etc. I sent it back as it was awful. Pairing up zinc (monkey metal) with steel screws just means the zinc parts get shredded very easily. On my first day (after 10 years of guitar tech experience) I managed to strip the string clamping thread just gently tightening it. Either whole thing needs to be steel or none of it.
It's made by WMI I believe in Korea, main difference is the saddle intonation bolts and plate screws are stainless and the arm holder is different, and that's it. Other than that it's the same as the 1000.
I'll chime in. I have the Sun Valley SS Exotic. Which is NOT the same as the Floyd Rose Special that comes with the base models. It is a 1000 series through and through. The stainless upgrades are nice though. No trouble there. It also came with a brass claw, and black noiseless springs. But I have taken it apart. It is absolutely the same as my 1000 series, just with those upgrades and a push in arm. So in the end? It's just a nicer 1000 series. It comes with some upgrades that you will probably like. If you like the 1000 series. I have zero problems with the 1000. Two of my guitars have had them for years. They work great.
This is accurate information so far. I cant find a no cap good/knowledgeable shred player to actually say if this is a good trem or not. is it smooth? consistent? like my edge pros(ibanez prestige trems) These schecter extended range ebony fretboard and sustainiac pickups are so juicy its insane. But if their licenced floyds suck to the point that makes me not want to play the guitar, im not going to drop 1500-2000$ to find out. im going out to every guitar store in the south bay to find one, perhaps tomorrow or soon after will keep yall posted. And btw I have extremely particular taste when it comes to playable flat super low necks and I need a perfect trem as well because my style is very much in the dimebag category. Ive tried many other trems that are just god awful and I just couldnt use them at all.
I have wondered about that vibrato for years. I have despaired of buying a Floyd 1500 myself, but I believe that I can approximate one with parts from different sources. I probably won't, though. My need level is too low.
Beware of the "Hotrod Special" FR trem that Schecter sometimes uses. It has the stainless hardware upgrade and looks like the "1500" and "Original Hotrod" but it uses the same baseplate and junk Zinc saddles as the "FR Special"
Schecter gave me a 1500, which is going in soon. You can tell side by side that it's sturdier and better than the 1000, which although stays in tune like the OG FR, the materials feel cheap. I like push ins better anyways. Also the tech at Schecter said the 1500 has a better knife edge on it than the 1000.
ESP / LTD now have them also, they just call them the 1000SE. they are the same in EVERY way. i have both and did a take apart and compair and they are the same, even the markings are the same. i think the 1500 name is lic. to schecter and the 1000SE is for everybody else. but they are the same.
I have the Schecter SLS elite c7 fr with 1500 floyd . So far the best what I had through the years. I had some floyd and zero bridges too . But isn't perfect . I had to buy a set of fine tuning screws (original floyd)because the factory ones was very very badly cut they always got stacked at a certain point . But with this change now is working perfectly. But as far as my experience goes it is much better what I had so far.
i have a schecter c7 apocalypse frs and the 1500 is pretty great tbh. stays in tune as well as most higher end floyds but is not as durable. the saddle for the push in arm on mine is starting to come lose after less than 100hrs of play. but im also very verey rough on things so take that with a graain of salt also
You didn't mention that the knife edge is much bigger on the 1500 than the 1000. I just swapped one out and it was more than obvious (Schecter told me that it was stronger but not larger). Ha look at the comment below took my slow ass SEVEN months to swap it.
In this video -and in the one comparing the Sun Valley Super Shredder to the Ibanez RG550 Genesis you stated that the Super Shredder has the 1500 though 2 years ago when you compared the Super Shredder to Jackson X Series Soloist SL3X DX you said the Super Shredder came with a Floyd Rose Special so i guess my question is where did you hear or read that the Super Shredder had a 1500 ? The reason i ask is that Schecters website states both the Sun Valley Super Shredder and the Banshee GT's trem system as being a 'Floyd Rose Special 'Hot Rod' Locking Tremolo (Schecter Exclusive)' with no mention of the series number 1500 whereas for comparisons sake if you look on their website the Schecter E-1 FR Special Edition does say under specs that it comes with a 1500 so i would think if the Sun Valley Super Shredder did it would list it on Schecters site , unless it came with it originally and Schetcter changed the brigde (which i can't personally see them doing) or unless there is something else i am missing , thanks for all your research and hard work , love the channel!
IMHO, this should be called a FR 500 cuz it's basically a FR special with stainless steel insert block screws and saddle screws. I know it's supposedly as good as a 1000 but after owning a Schecter Sunvalley SS3 for over a year I've had to replace all the parts with actual 1000 series parts. (save for the stainless steel screws lol) Conclusion? It's just a marketing gimmick.
You're probably thinking of the "Hotrod Special" Which uses the Special baseplate and crappy zinc saddles. The actual FR 1500 uses the 1000 series base and saddles.
Great video Nik I always wondered what was the difference in the 2 and you are right other than the push In arm like the edge and the stainless screws the seem the same as the 1000 I guess if I want to find out how long they will last I will have to buy a Schecter .
Hi Guys, I have a HELLRAISER HYBRID C-1 FR UV and It has a 1500 series Floyd rose, few times I played the guitar without putting and tightening the arm with the screw, and somehow that little screw fell out and I can't find it any where. I tried contacting the dealer but as I live in Croatia a very small country I am not able too find that tinny little screw and what seems to be a small problem for me is a big one. I absolutely love the guitar but at the moment I can't use my floyd. I couldn't find the screw online. If any one knows where I can get that screw I would appreciate if you let me where is it possible to get it. Thx In advance
The German-made Floyd is technically a 100 series. Both the 100 and the 1000 series are branded as "Floyd Rose Original" tremolos, so that term can't be used to differentiate between them.
new to the "push-in" style Floyd Rose...is it supposed to stay in the guitar (click into place) without the grub screw adjustment? (mine just falls out of the guitar)...
Yeah it's just a '1000 series' made in Korea Floyd with stainless steel screws and the push in arm. I thought it was a Schecter guitars exclusive. However, I've seen Schecter guitars that look like it is the 1500, but it's a crappy Floyd Rose Special with upgraded stainless steel screws (what Floyd Rose call a 'hot rod')!! Disgraceful that they are doing this, they've put the price up and cheapened the Floyd. They'd always use the 1000 series trem as a base, in the past. Keep away from the crappy 'Special' (it ISN'T) and thank me later. They should be ashamed of themselves changing specs to a crappy unit, and confusing people in the process! No shame!!!!
Largely the same. The 1000 series is a Korean made trem that reports to use the same materials as the OFR. Same with the 1500. The 1500 just uses stainless steel screws for the most part.
@The Axe I'm not referring to the 1000 series I'm referring to the 1000se series!! Esp uses it on some guitars like the arrow!! Seems exactly like the 1500 with the stainless screws!!!
@@chryss8039 OHHHH! Shoot my apologies. You know Ive been doing some research about this and I’m still perplexed by it. I’ll try and find out and make a video about it. Typically, “SE” usually means no frills or stripped down version so I’m trying to find out the components/design of the trem. MTF!!
@The Axe yeah I was trying to find some info myself and there weren't any!! Just one dude on reddit saying it's the same as 1500 but different name!!! But I'm not so sure about it!! Thanks for the responses!!! I'll be waiting for the vid!! ;)
I have the FR-1500 on my Reaper FR-S. Since I have experience having worked in a machine shop, I really don't see where the stainless-steel hardware would have an advantage unless you just prefer the "two-tone" black and silver look. I'm sure the black steel hardware has been heat treated and annealed for hardness and durability, so depending on what type stainless alloy {there are many} was used, and what type of steel alloy {again, there are many} was used for the black hardware, one may be harder and/or more durable than the other. Not enough to make any appreciable difference though. Either should be plenty hard/durable enough to outlast the Floyd's contact knife edges however. As long as you use the proper sized allen wrench and make sure it's not rounded off, you should not have any problem. The FR-1500's push in trem-arm is the only real advantage. That's a sweet feature imho, and its tension adjustment also works great and holds well.
my LTD arrow 1000 came with a Floyd Rose 1000SE which looks identical to the 1500 ! Lol 😂 Question: I wanna swap out my Floyd Rose 1000 on my LTd KH602, should I be looking at the FRT200 ? What’s the best replacement for it ? You mentioned a Lo pro so now I’m really confused! Was just about to order the FRT200 but then came across this video and really confused now lol 😂
@@nikaxeguitar No budget just wanna put a Floyd rose original in to replace my 1000. I don’t think they’re a direct swap right ? I heard the Original has larger posts and will sit a bit higher than my 1000 ? Should I be looking at this Lo Pro ? Just confused and want what would work best.
@@romanshredz Sweet! Um to my knowledge its a 100% direct swap my dude. WORST CASE is that youd have to possibly rout out your existing post holes for the stud housing (Highly doubt you’d have to do this). The post spacing is exactly the same if your 1000 is F-Spaced. Go for it man!
That’s arguable. It’s claimed they are the same but made in different countries. I would argue that at the very least, non-german FR’s do not have as good QC. Which is true. A few of the 1000’s that I’ve had have stripped bolts. Just my take
@@9hk38f If the 1000 series is causing no trouble stay the course. They are “reported” to be made with the same materials as the OFR. The only thing is that they go through less stringent QC. What does this mean? It becomes more of a crap shoot in regards to the probability of getting a well made one. Sounds like you drew a good one so stick with it.
@@nikaxeguitar I’ve heard the same thing, from others. I’ve even been told, there’s certain years, that 1000 series were better, and worse. My pink Alexi Edwards, is a 2021 model.
It doesn't matter what type of floyd Rose you get there's not one video not one that has a guitar and from beginning to end shows you how to keep it in tune all they do is talk and put instructions how come there's not one video the fluid Rose is a nightmare
