I'm going crazy. I just heard someone mention the new "Hogan's Heroes" movie. It reminded me of the movie they made just after the original series ended. The movie has Colonel Klink being captured by the Russians after the war and now Hogan has to help Klink escape. I can not find it anywhere!
"Ja wohl, Mein Kommisar!" instead of "Ja wohl, Mein Kommandant!" It's probably no coincident that all four actors were in this movie together since this movie came out in 1968. Hogan's Heroes premiered in 1965 and ran until 1971. They all probably agreed to film this movie during the break between seasons of the show.
Actually, Schultz always said "Jawohl, Herr Kommandant!" Literally, it translates to "Yes, Mr. Commander!" (Or, you know, when Klink wasn't around then it was "the bigshot" or one time "Herr Bigshot".)
I think they were trying to capitalize on making a Hogan's Heroes movie, but had to change it just enough so that CBS couldn't claim the rights and take all of their money.
Given the popularity of the 1965-1971 CBS series "HOGAN'S HEROES", using most of the key cast for this 1968 United Artists release "THE WICKED DREAMS OF PAULA SCHULTZ" was unique, but it also proved the immense popularity of these actors and their versatility!
It is so hard to not see Askin, Klemper, and Banner as their Hogan's Heroes German counterparts. I mean Banner keeps talking to Klemper's character like Schultz does to Klink on more friendly terms.
@Envy the Darksider . . . it seems that John Banner played variations of Sgt Schultz in nearly every acting role I've seen on film. See him in the role he played in the movie, "36 Hours," or as a brew-master in the TV series "The Untouchables;" and there are other titles I cannot recall right now. But Banner always played the roles well, so the writers, casting producers, and directors did well with casting and directing him for those parts.
This video solves a mystery for me. As a child, I must have seen this movie on television. Through the years, I have told people I saw a movie about 'what Hogan's Heroes did after the war." No one I talked to knew about this movie. I was sure I didn't imagine it.
just tell them the movie before Hogan was arrested for beating the blonde up ... she's Klinks secretary btw ... and thats why he was in jail for a time ...
Its like they were still playing their Hogans Heroes roles. The Jawhols from schultz sounded like they were accidental and then just left in as a nod to the series
Leon also appeared as a scientist on Happy Days who accurately predicted a hurricane (or tornado) by the way his lab animals were behaving. Richie ran around telling everyone, but no one believed him until it hit. He talked about warning the gang at the Pizza Bowl, the hangout in the Laverne & Shirley show!
icecreamforcrowhurst true. Bob Crane had a weird addiction, though as far as we know it was totally consensual. Also the women he had sex with, were single. The bad part of it was he divorced his first wife due to cheating on her, and married Patricia Olsen, but was cheating on her and was estranged from her when he was trying to quit his addiction and reconnect when he was murdered. Also his final will and testament left nothing to his first wife or his biological children from that marriage.
A couple fun facts about John Banner (Schultz). 1. He could drop most of his accent if he tried. He had a part as a one time villain in an episode of 'The Lone Ranger' and he speaks with a very light accent in it, and that was _before_ Hogan's Heroes. 2. He didn't speak a word of English when he came to America, using translation from helpful people he got acting jobs in movies and had a lot of un-credited roles. On one of his first jobs the other actors said that he didn't speak any English when he started. He learned his lines phonetically and while he didn't know what they meant, he seemed to have an instinctive understanding of the feeling behind them. The said after a while, he started trying to talk to people using lines from the movie. They said that towards the end of schooling he was correctly mixing and matching them, and after about 4 or 5 months, he just spoke English. That's a smart man that can learn a language that way.
@@saagabragi6938 True, and that was an excellent movie. I heard Werner Klemperer directed it as well as playing Klaus...but I definitely liked his Klaus character!
I love Werner Klemperer in anything he does. I've seen him at Judgement At Nuremberg, 5 Steps To Danger, Operation Eichmann, and the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode called 'Safe Conduct' so far. I've been trying to see him in a variety of roles so I get a good feel of his work. He has got to be the biggest ham I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of Robin Williams' work. His role as Klaus was borderline creepy when he showed up in her room and said "Just call me your dream prince." But he was definitely talented; when the viewer first sees him looking over the railing in the hotel in '5 Steps To Danger', he smiles so creepily it made a chill go down my spine. Like if I saw that smile aimed at me in person, I would be extremely nervous. I'm not usually one for drama or serious movies since I prefer comedies, but Werner's work has helped change my mind. They just don't make actors like him anymore. :(
Tarantino loves this movie in Kill Bill the grave that Uma was buried alive in the headstone was engraved Paula Schultz he did that as an inside joke to fans of this movie. It really is awful they would have been smarter to do a Hogan's Heroes movie for the same budget that would have been great and they could have done it but they were stupid. Very sad.
THIS is fucking weird. I wish my Grandpa were still alive so i can show him these gems. He passed away in 2014. He used to come out of his bedroom in his robe, tell us a funny line or two from Hogans heroes, and go back to bed. I Wish i was more tentative, as i was a little shit head with out any respect for older people. Now, i wish i had done and said things differently as i can now relate to them a little more...Man...Life sure does funny things. Rest in peace, big man. And rest in peace the entire cast of Hogans heroes, Except Louis LeBeau.
1:27. Are they Germans from the DDR? Instead of a framed picture of Adolf Hitler on the office wall, Hogan's Heroes, there is a framed photo of Vladimir Lenin on the office wall.
Notice the kitchen set is the same as was used in HH. Too bad no Askin dialog in this clip. The plot line is "A beautiful East German Olympic hopeful pole-vaults over the Berlin Wall to freedom." Elke is da bomb! This was made in 1968 while HH was still in production.
I thought I'd seen all of the episodes, but never saw the 3 pacing in a circle. (with Askin in the BACK?) And Lenin on the wall? Wow. Would love to see more. Thank you
It's hard that while im watching Hogan's Hero's at this moment on TV and then watching the previews on here it's HARD to separate the wonderful guys of Hogan's Hero's to these 4... im gonna watch the whole shortly but I've gotta seperate them...lol
Crane's "fondness" of women is what ultimately got him killed. He was a sex addict at a time when very little was known about sex addiction. He took Polaroids and filmed videos of his conquests. Of course, all this came out after his death. Banner died of an intestinal blockage only two years after Hogan's Heroes ended, ironically on his 65th birthday.
If you want to see a night and day difference showcasing Werner Klemperer's acting talent, watch an episode of Hogan's Heroes and then watch the movie 'Operation Eichmann'. Werner plays the main character, Adolf Eichmann and John Banner plays Rudolf Hoss. (Yes, there was a Rudolf Hoss and a Rudolf Hess, but Hess was the one who parachuted into Britain.)
Remember seeing this one time on television whilst Hogan Heroes was in its original run. Perhaps you could upload as complete film or in several 9 minute segments......PLEASE !!!!!!!! Danka mein fruend
Looks really crappy....I MUST see .......... On another note, Leon Askin in also in a movie called "one two three" with Jimmy Cagney. He plays a Russian Trade Minister, also I saw his last work in an episode of "Kommisar Rex", a police show from Austria, although it can sometimes be seen in the US dubbed into Spanish and called "Commisario Rex". He played the elderly neighbor of a murder victim.
Thought you might find it interesting that Leon Askin has a huge building and city square named after him in Austria, Leon-Askin-Platz in Vienna-Penzing. He also won two Austrian Crosses of honor and Gold and Silver Medals for service to the city of Vienna. There is a plaque at Hütteldorferstrasse 349 in Vienna-Penzing, to mark100th anniversary of Askin's birth He was also a Sgt in the US Army air corps in WWII and lived to be 97 years oldI! I met him when he was around 90 years old and he was amazing. Sharp as a tack and absolutely hilarious! A true gentleman!
He was also the estate lawyer for the Frankenstein estate in "Young Frankenstein." The scene was very esrly pom, but was cut from the theatrical release....it was a drag on the plot. It's at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jr8xYH9ork8.html
I so wanted to buy this movie "the Wicked Dreams of Paula Shultz" on DVD/VHS so badly but I don't know what online store actually sells it, I'm not interested in the poster though.
Cause it was fun! As someone with some experience in theatre, I assure you, there is nothing artists enjoy more than making in-jokes, parodies, and spoofs no one understands!
all the characters shown EXCEPT for the friends borrowing the apartment were from hogans heros ... yes even the blonde ... she was the secretary ... and also the one hogan beat the crap out of and went to jail for ... just after this movie was out as I recall
The american producers always choose this name, because it's a typical german name like Schmidt and Müller. And the Americans know it from HH. But we have thousands other german names.
It most definitely isn’t the worst movie ever made. It’s not even in the top thousand most likely. Mystery Theater has had a few that barely qualify as movies. This one has some sort of a plot, editing, direction, stuff like that.
@@ComeAlongKay Yes, this isn't what I'd call a good movie, but certainly not the worst. "Santa Claus vs. the Martians" comes to mind. Now THAT was one of the worst movies of all time. 😄
