You deserve all of the success and congrats on being able to upgrade! I'll be honest, I'm just about to buy a house- I dont even do carpentry and I still watch your channel because I know that when i want to do projects in my own house there will be well-explained guides here on how to go about them. AND it helps me to know the projects I can do myself and who I should just hire a professional for. Happy holidays to you and your family!
You are me 2 years ago:) My first ever “project” was drywall patching, which I learned on this channel. Before that, my most complex work on a house was filling anchor holes:D A year later I was building my own deck…
I am very fortunate that I bought my house 20 years ago. I paid $120k for 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, two floors and a basement on half an acre with woods. A full porch on the front and a deck on the rear that I screened in myself. I did a lot of landscaping and build a ground level deck on the rear with steps down to it and turned the bonus room over the garage into a TV now bedroom. It was just the right size for 4 of us. I'm really happy you and your family have a bigger place now. Merry Christmas to you all!
I have two sons and totally identified with the "knife-throwing phase." My chicken coop was the victim here. Your success is well-deserved. It makes me happy to know that you are benefitting from the work you put into this channel, which has entertained and instructed equally well. Thank you, Ben!
For ikea base cabs all we do is rip 5" off the top of them, so instead of 30 + 4 1/2 kick it's 25 + 4/12 kick. Then you can just use a 5" drawer and a 20" door. You shouldn't have to redrill any custom holes for the sliders
I moved into a house back in 2016 and was facing some renovations, like most walls, a completely new kitchen and some tile work. Your channel has been a great inspiration in two ways - one part is the fine details about how to actually do stuff and how to fix common problems, but the other part is the attitude of just getting stuff going and not stress too much. As a home gamer, it doesn't feel normal to mix grout or join sheet rock but your relaxed sense of non-urgency has been a real input in how to approach the work. Thanks a lot, and merry christmas!!
You help me improve the quality of my life it’s only fair that I tell you how grateful I am for your help I am very happy for you in this wonderful arrangement and moving up to a better place with your sizeable family congratulations and I look forward to more videos are you gonna do. T-shirts dude I need T-shirts from you LMAO
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and really enjoy the content a lot. I subscribed after watching the first one and I’ve gotten over my fear of drywall thanks to you. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching and learning more tips and tricks.
You can also use kitchen cabinets, as they are, as a desk base and use an architect chair, which are higher than standard desk chairs. I like this option as you can both sit and stand at the desk and work at the kitchen counter height.
I actually live in a housing cooperative in Ontario. They can definitely be a hassle at times but it's hard to beat the cheap rent. We don't plan on moving until we can buy a house. We just have one kid so space isn't a huge deal. I actually joined the board of members even though I usually keep my distance from neighbors to avoid any potential for drama. We kept having issues with contractors we hired because no one on the board had any experience in construction. Also we just paid off the mortgage a year ago so I want to convince the members that we should take that savings and roll it into a loan to updated the units. Stuff like new siding and insulation, heat pumps (we use electric baseboards) and new kitchens. Congrats on the move and keep up the great work. I'm just finishing up a renovation on my brothers basement and watched a ton of your videos.
Looks about how I have been doing my own home nothing fancy just fast and easy My type of work. I enjoy doing the work myself as long as I don't get in over my head which is why I keep it simple.
Nice video for sure. I will like seeing videos on what we can do around the house in the way of custom builds. I have some bedrooms that had bi-fold closet doors on carpet. I put down floating hardwood and got rid of the bi-folds. I plan one day to build closet inserts the have built in drawers so no need for chest of drawers out in the floor space. I want to build uppers that can handle clothes but have their own doors (the kind you open and push back alongside the unit. I'm trying think of home builds like this. But other ideas that come my way from this channel too. You bailed me out with my bathroom drywall issues on the tub-shower tile remodel. That was a good 2021 for me. Thanks.
Must be brutal living in Van. I know how crazy the housing market is and it sucks that even when you own your own company you still can't afford to own a home.
You've secretly amassed a portfolio of 50 houses, but you're trying to be humble :) Merry Christmas to you and the family, the new year will be great for you.
Kitchen cabinets are usually 34.5 inches tall then when you put an 1.5 inch countertop on them, it comes out to 36 inches from floor to countertop. Usually the toe kick will be 4 1/2" and the face frame or cabinet box portion will be 30 inches. For bar height countertops, we usually do 42" from floor to top of countertop. For desk height, I usually do 30 to 32 inches. Most seats are 15" to 17" from finish floor to where your butt sits.
Ben, Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you so much for your dedication to this channel! I appreciate it so much. (Also really enjoy your skating channel). Good luck in the new year and looking forward to your new videos! Cheers!
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. I hope you are the owner of your new place. Looking forward to lots of great new videos but please don't stop doing drywall videos.
I think this channel is at a point, where the host can just turn on the camera, and work his drywall skills with Bob Ross narration and I would watch the whole thing..He could talk about random stuff too and it would still be entertaining.
long time viewer here: so happy and proud of you (that feels a lil weird to type) for the way you ended the video. a nice way to phrase it too... "don't freek out the atheists too much ;) thumbs up!!!
Maybe I’ve missed it in previous videos, but why with the new place are you fixing up the old? Is it wear and tear repairs that you’re obligated to fix, or are they paying you to do it?
I enjoy your videos and learn lots. You’re a good professional and great communicator, so I’m glad you’re doing well. … and no, you didn’t freak me out. It’s ok to have imaginary friends. :-) All the best.
I cannot believe you are apologizing for believing in God, because you might "offend" an athiest what, subscriber? Be yourself. That's why we watch. We all know you are a decent person, you don't have to try and please everyone and be apologetic about it, otherwise you compromise your integrity.
@@vancouvercarpenter As long as you don't put your trowel down in the middle of a swipe, pick up a Bible and say "this is a good time for some scripture..." I think you will be OK! Merry Christmas to you and your family!"
Your channel has helped me so much renovating and remodeling my 30 year old house. To be honest I was scared of a lot of the projects especially replacing and repairing drywall. After watching your videos and actually trying with some mistakes along the way(of course) I’ve become more confident in my abilities and developed new skills. By no means am I professional but I now know I can get the job done with some limited mistakes to correct. So from a novice thank you so much! Glad you are doing well!
Brought back memories… there was six of us in an 1100 sq ft home with a singe bath. We would be coming home from a trip and as we got close I would announce, “ Ok, Mom has bathroom first, whose second, whose third…” and so on knowing I, Dad, was last. Making sure it went as smooth as possible so I didn’t have to wait too long. Now we have 2 1/2 baths… ahhhhh. Congratulations again on the new home. Thanks for sharing your expertise with all of us.
I love your videos and have learned so much. I’d love if you could make a video specific to electricians who need to cut access holes in sheet rock for running wire and replacing the patch and how to do so with minimal damage. Thanks again
Nice save. “We had a swing in here…. That the kids played on.” Certainly not that OTHER kind of swing which would have explained having 6 kids more easily
Much appreciation for all that you're doing with your channel good sir !! I've been a handyman now for just over 17 years and I tend to book a great deal of drywall work 😊 truth be told, I've been fortunately quite lucky in as much as several tips & tricks that you've so aptly demonstrated in numerous videos
@@vancouvercarpenter God Bless good sir and I'm happy hearing your success and that you're better able providing for family above all my friend !! You deserve all the wonderful good that's coming your way because of your hard work excellent ethical and work ethic eye and mind attuned to putting out quality only and you work smarter AND harder - all of which is a fantastic mindset in this field
Super glad you got to get out of that place and move on to somewhere more suitable for your family !!! I know from experience how much of a difference it's going to make.
I like Vancouver carpenter I learn a lot from his videos cant wait for the new stuff. I really want to do this trade career and his videos are helping me a lot.
It's best to remove the old one and scrape the mud down a little so the new one has somewhere to go and not sit too proud. This video shows that method. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eBn17XzL61g.html
Thank you. Question about the desk you had to cut down for proper height suited for you .Was it necessary? Why didn't you just raise the height adjustment of your chair to compensate for it?
I own my condo (actually paid off the mortgage 2 years ago) but everything I built inside is removable. When it comes time to sell, an empty space is much easier to sell.
I'm so psyched that the channel can supply you a better life! I'm not really sure I understand how us watching your videos makes you money but hey I don't really know how my car works either ... I'm just glad both things work! 😁 I will say that if you sold t-shirts or some other crap like that I would buy something to support you that way too!
