Adrianna J basically, a compressor works by reducing input above a certain volume (called the "threshold") by an amount called the "ratio". The "knee" is the area around the threshold. A "hard knee" is when the volume is either reduced to the ratio or not, with no in between, while a "soft knee" has a smooth transition.

Amazing level of creativity and savoir-faire. Making sense of these contraptions and coming up with a song that tight with them is really impressive. I really like the format of your videos. Very few youtube musicians/creators understand how to make content around original creations like you do. The way you take us by the hand through your creative process and then hit us with a mix that makes sense and practical use of it all at then end is really inspiring.

The dollhead is an Atari Punk Console, you can look it up on Google basicly one nob changes the frequency and that triggers an pulse and the scond nob changes the width of that pulse.

4:07 I actually have a synth that sounds exactly like that. Those knobs don't control pitch. The one on the right controls the main oscillators melodic range, the other controls what note is playing in that range. Hope this clarifies things!

A type of compression where the onset of compression is gradual. In normal or hard knee compression when the signal reaches the threshold the unit immediately begins to compress at whatever ratio is set. ... You might already know this by now, but the base design of that doll has is an APC (Atari Punk Console). It's made with either two 555s or one 556 IC and is a really great beginner synth for anyone who's interested in getting into synth building. I built one into a wearable mask and I love it

Jonas Hirt a compressor has mostly three values for you to play around with: threshhold (if the signal passes the threshhold, the compressor starts to work), ratio (how much the signal is broken down) and knee (instead of a hard breakdown of the signal, there‘s a slight bend to the ratio curve, that weakens the attack of the compressor).

The cool sounding baby's head is called an Atari Punk Console! I built one into a wax can and eventually added a thermistor to make it temperature sensitive and a photoresistor like you have so that it is light dependent! The expression pedal is the one with photovoltaic cell. It's kind of tradition to built an APC into an extremely odd object, it is basically a simple 555 timer circuit.

Ps that solar panel thing, the initial tones and the frequency that it outputs will be directly proportionate to whichever lights you shine on it, for instance, try shining one of those colour changing key ring led torches on it, enjoy :)

I don't have much experience with the raspberry pi, but a gpio extension board seems to give you all the possibilities an arduino got. But I don't know how easy it is to programm it and how much tutorials are out there. Technically the raspberry pi should be able to do a lot more stuff then an arduino.

I don't know how old he is of course nor where he's living, but here in France people having less than 30/35 don't remember this kind of phone.
