we as black people `must not forget of history in America. History is known to repeat itself.

I feel like us 80's and 90's babies should get to sue the school systems we went to for failure to teach proper history.

I am 66 years old and I grew up several miles from there. Rosco Barnes is from my home town he has been indoctrinated and work at the Natchez museum and he is telling the story the way he was taught. Mississippi was hell and it is still hell for black people today.

My family is from Natchez, we just had a family reunion there this summer, we took an EXTENSIVE TOUR of the city, saw many of the existing plantations and mansions, there was not even a whisper of this story. I am desperate to find the truth about what happened.

My people did not deserve this mistreatment, this kind of history boils my blood I wish evil did not exist on this planet..

A lot of people dont understand the insanity of people being freed with nothing and all these "plans" never enforced including 40 acres and mule. And already rich people from free labor got reimbursed for loosing income.

When i visits downsouth when i am alone walking in our woods i could feel my ancestors there they welcome me with peace. Sometimes i get sad because some how i could see them running through the woods memories of how they had to survive hiding. it is beautiful feeling feeling my ancestors power like thatI love my ancestors and my people many blessings to you yall.

Black people in Mississippi know about the Devil's Punchbowl. There are beautiful peach trees inside of it and everyone knows those peach trees were fertilized with the blood of our people.

Something very similar also happened in Nicholasville, KY at Camp Nelson. The camp was overrun with ex slaves and their families with disastrous results.

There was no social media in 1965 when I was 10 years old and my mother told me about The Natchez Punchbowl. We still lived in the same city in Mississippi where my great grand parents were enslaved. Not only them, but my grand parents were still enslaved because they could only get work from white folks. This still hadnt changed when I left Mississippi when I left at 17 years ld. There were no jobs for us after high school, so there was no other choice.

We are the true Jew we gonna always survive because we are the children of the Most High they will never take us out. All Praises to the Most High ☝🏾❤️

I never knew anything about the ''SLAVERY'' until about 8 years ago, when the Holy Spirit began OPENING up my EYES from the SCRIPTURES and other THINGS. I'm still LEARNING and my LIFE is and has been very MUCH affected by IT.

I don't agree Black people were NEVER intended to become citizens of this country. But whether it's true as to the intentions or not, the fact is, Black people ARE citizens of this country and DO hold political office and DO have viable businesses and DO contribute monumentally to the success of America, in spite of, and maybe because of the hardships they've suffered.

Imagine all the laws we have restricting against: abuse, discrimination, harassment, physical abuse, libel, violence, force, threat, sexual abuse, rape, all made to protects us all. And to convict those who violate these laws. Slaves had not a single protection whatsoever. One can not even fathom the atrocities done to them. No one to save them or help them.

I'm from Vidalia, LA. I walk that bridge to Natchez every year. This is a part of history that has been buried along with my direct ancestors.

This is why they don't want to teach black history. They don't want their children to know how wicked their Ancestors were to black people but if they don't learn. Your souls will be in jeopardy of going to hell.

This is the first time I heard the Punchbowl story. Suppression of Black History is a political position today for 2024 GOP Presidential candidates like Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida.

I watched this and at 54 yearsold I never was taught this. My white father was born and raised in😮 Chicago. His mother was born in Georgia and left to find work 8n Chicago where she met my grandfather and started their family there. She contracted german measles and while in the hospital after giving birth to my father she had to have a wet nurse to feed my father. The lady was black and I believe saved my father. I am indebted to her service for I am here. Dad was born Feb of 1941 and I am forever grateful for the beautiful women who did this for mothers who had problems.

They say one couldn't fathom the thing's done to Black/African people doing slavery. Slavery was greatest economics base that ever happened to America. That why they needed slaves they couldn't do it that why America suffer to this day when it comes to economics Black/African people was the greatest economics stability that America ever had even till this day.

So much black history is left out of schools. For example, I learned of General Custer in school. It wasn't until I read about the Buffalo Soldiers in my adult life, that I learned about the 9th and 10th Cavalry. They were stationed at Ft Leavenworth, KS along with General Custer and the 7th Cavalry. This is also how I learned who really defeated Poncho Villa.

I'm from Mississippi, I've never heard this story. Disease was very rampant during the Civil War and a lot of bodies, both black and white, were buried in unmarked graves. There just wasn't time or manpower to make individual graves or markers. Most of the bodies were unknown, therefore no accurate marker could be made. Clues to the identities of the dead soldiers could only be gleaned by whatever was in their pockets, or a button off their uniform. Uniforms were often recycled since Confederate uniforms were in short supply. During the winter, both Native Americans and slaves would also scavenge uniforms from the bodies to keep warm. Disease was spread when clothing was taken from bodies that had died of a pestilence. There was a great deal of starvation due to the fact that general Sherman burned every farm, not just slave plantations, but every farm, even genuine family farms because he did not want them supplying the Confederate army with food. The problem was, he was also starving out the very people he's supposedly came to save. Many former slaves fled into the swamps to live off of snakes and frogs if they could avoid the Gators. The Civil War truly was a terrible time in America's history! Everyone suffered, including the former slaves the Union came to confiscate. The union was unprepared for the sheer numbers which followed them on the road back North. Sherman was only obligated to feed his army. The slaves were encouraged to fend for themselves by pilfering whatever they could along the way that the soldiers didn't get to first. This is why Lincoln said that if he could preserve the union by not releasing the slaves, he would have done so. He well knew the horrible suffering the war would bring! But he also knew that if the southern states were permitted to secede from the Union and escape the enforcement of the law, there would never be an end to slavery!

Stuff like this is why I will ALWAYS be proud to be American. Because my ancestors literally died for me to be here 🇺🇸
