For an entirely different interpretation, check out Dylan doing Jokerman on Letterman in 1984 with punk band The Plugz backing him.

Late 70s/80s Dylan is underrated. It’s weird that people call it his Christian period when pretty much everything he’s written since the beginning has been filled with Christian images and ideas.

Always liked this song. Dylan had some very solid records post 1960s.

"Bob Dylan - It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" best Lyrics or "Bob Dylan - Pretty Saro" best dylan voice performance ever"

It's a jam. Mark Knopfler, guitar genius boosts it

Good reaction! This song is lyrically dense and draws from several sources including the bible. However, it's nice that you're letting songs play all the way through, without interruption, before reacting! Will definitely check out more of your reactions.

I would recommend to a Dylan album the last one, Rough and Rowdy ways. Or for a song one from that album: my own version of you, crossing the rubicon, false prophet, murder most foul, goodbye jimmy reed; any of those.

I know it’s sacrilege but Infidels is my absolute favorite Dylan album.

At one point Dylan got this bassist Kip Winger, who led a hair metal band whose hit went "she's only 17..."

There's a great live Letterman version of this song. Very different from the studio version

Strange pick if you don't know Dylan as this is relatively late, compared to his material that changed the world. I believe this was past his Christian phase and around the time of his return to Judaism. He used the famous reggae rhythm section of that time, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, who backed Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, and many others. Added a distinct sound to this album. Great song and the lyrics are like an epic poem. If I remember back to the video it might have had some criticism launched towards Ronald Reagan back at that time. But if you don't know Dylan you should go way back to It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) or Desolation Row or Highway 61. You're not going to get Dylan if you don't explore him chronologically, since he rebelled against himself and his own sound every several years or so.

His discography is huge and a great deal of It consists of boring/dull records, with some hidden gems here and there. I think his album Oh Mercy, from 1989 is pretty strong, though.

Um, the vast majority of his discography is absolutely incredible and critically acclaimed with the odd misstep here and there. One does not win a Nobel Prize and get labeled as the best songwriter of all time for releasing boring/dull records. Dylan has a longevity that most artists could only dream of. His early career consist of the greatest folk protest songs ever written, then comes the electric trilogy considered to be the greatest run of albums by a single artist of all time. In the 70's he released 2 masterpieces Blood On The Tracks and Desire as well as several other solid to great records. In the 80's he had his problems to be sure and yet still managed to put out two very good albums Infidels and Oh Mercy. The 90's saw his comeback with the brilliant Time Out of Mind album and that trend of releasing great records has continued to this day. So in short, your comment is completely inaccurate, the majority of his discography is neither dull or boring, bad Dylan albums are the exception rather than the rule.

@@Sir_William_Marshal Prizes and critical acclaim are pretty meaningless in my opinion, which is not to say I find Dylan talentless, on the contrary. I just find some of his work uninteresting/repetitive, but when It's all said and done, It comes down to personal taste, no? I could show you the best country music artist, but if you don't enjoy the genre, It won't do anything for you. I think Dylan has some stellar songs, I just don't happen to be a great fan of this style of music as a whole, sorry. Fun fact: He self admittedly was trying to do boring music/albums on purpose in the 70s because he wanted to become less popular (or at least that was the excuse he used). It's all on his auto-biography, if you don't believe me.

@@justaguy1451 You being a fan of a certain style of music is irrelevant to your incorrect comment. Imagine if I said I was not a fan of classical music but then claimed that the majority of Mozarts music is dull and repetitive. I am not a crazy big Beatles fan but I would never be ignorant enough to say that most of their albums suck with a few hidden gems here and there and neither should you say the same about Dylan because its blatantly false and anyone who knows anything about music would tell you the same. Also how can you say Dylan is repetitive, his albums are all completely different to each other. Infidels is nothing like Oh Mercy, Blood On The Tracks is nothing like Desire, Highway 61 is Nothing like Freewheelin. Just admit you are ignorant about Dylan's music and move on, or just delete your original comment.

You have the right to think the way you do. I feel different about Dylan, way different from you. But I understand you. I understand people that don't like him. He's quite a peculiar singer and musician and his voice is pretty weird, no question about that. So lot of people don't like him and it's ok. But if you like him, the way I do like him, I can assure you he goes deep, so deep into your soul, beyond any possible imagination. That's how I like him.
