Bruh why is everyone arguing down here about "IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THEY USED AND ADD-ON" or "BUT THE SATURN VERSION LOOKS BETTER". Those statements are true, but that's beside the point. The point is that there is an FMV playing on the vanilla Genesis without these add-ons, and that's insanely impressive. OP just wanted to praise that.

Agreed. I saw a video detailing just how they pulled it off. It’s crazy how much they had to compress it. It is beyond impressive.

honestly if there is ever a 3d blast remake i want to see an animated cutscenes with the style of the opening

Check out Sonic X-treme (there are bunch of fan recreations, but it features this specific pre-rendered model of Sonic coming to life and exploring zones, there is also mod for fangame "Sonic Robo Blast 2" with X-treme Sonic being playable)

@@Zicetec2000 The Saturn's better, but it's better in the sense of "Oh man I'm doing what I was made to do, I'm awesome" meanwhile the genesis is playing a CGI cutscene, something never seen prior to this moment on the Sega Genesis (and maybe even the whole 16 bits generation)

Most older Sonic games doesn't haves Super Sonic as feature, the point of emeralds was always used as something to make good ending since Sonic 1

The blurring looks so good for 90s animation. Back then, even blurring was difficult to do.

It did one thing. It demonstrated the power of the Sega genesis. They managed to squeeze 2.5D game on a 4mb cartridge for a console that was made for 2d only. Too bad the devs forgot about the gameplay and had never truly asked themselves "Are these controls and the camera angle good for the game"? I played it few days ago and Jesus H. was it frustrating due to the camera angle and the slippery controls.

Honestly I do agree it was a letdown after s3&k. however I do agree with others that it showed off what the genesis could do, was one of the first 2d games that looked 3d ( donkey kong country also used the style. and later on the first 2 odd world games of which are some of my favorite games I played as a kid that wasn't sonic/sega related also used it as well but by that time 2d games were being phased out for the hot new almost cgi style of games that used polygons like twisted metal ) plus without sonic 3ds music sonic adventures soundtrack may have ended up being slightly different since they recycled the puppet panic music used in the "flickys are mysterious birds" cutscene and I think the music on the first level was used in sonic adventure as well which makes me greatful that sonic 3d exists. Especially since the sonic adventure version of the puppet panic music (twinkle cart if I remember correctly havnt played sonic adventure since 03) is one of my favorite sonic music pieces (besides mystic cave, chemical plant, flying battery zone, and the usual sonic favorites). The gameplay sucks though for sonic 3d and I wish they would have atleast tried to fix the slippery controls before ever releasing the game to begin with.

Still one of my favourite video game soundtracks to this day! The saturn version music is so nostalgic for that 90's style game music. Amazing
