The best ending in the series, period. If Sonic ended on SA2 it would have been the perfect ending, even Eggman is showing a human side we barely see on this ending, its great.
Absolutely not. Black knights had a stronger ending in my opinion. Not to say the ending isn't good, but its not the best in the series. But this does have one of the best stories.
This ending is why I had such a problem with Sonic Heroes being a sequel. This was such a great ending and felt like a true ending. Sonic Heroes feels like none of this matters.
to be fair it does deserve a remake. the voice acting keeps overlapping each other in the english version. Not to mention the storage memory of the chao garden is a serious pain.
I agree. You could try watching Sonic X. It's a show not a game but it does cover the Sonic Adventure arcs including a really cool version of this battle.
“My hero has been demolished before my eyes. The one man I looked up to is nothing but a genocidal maniac. I am dead inside, Tails.” “wE aLl DiD iT tOgEtHeR”
@@theabsolutecat915 Eggman is so stupid for trying to crash the Ark on Earth SERIOUSLY if the world is destroyed THERE'S NO WORLD FOR TO RULE OR TAKE OVER.
Eggman was devestated because the one man he looked up to, his own flesh and blood, tried to kill everyone including him. The only family he thought he had wanted to kill him.
I’m hoping they put in some music from the game, E.G.G.M.A.N, Pumpkin Hill, Live & Learn, Throw it All Away, etc.. anything would be cool. Not sure how chaos control would work though since everyone has rings that transport them anywhere
@@leticiajimenez9607 if they did I think either dark overlord or robot Sonic should be the final in Sonic 4 movie since I think three is going to be based on this they skip SA 1 so those are the only ones I can think of right now 😎🤔💯
Looking back at it now, the boss battle mechanics were not good. But, just the idea; the very concept alone of this battle is what made it so fucking epic. Just thinking about the fact that that's progression of the same Hedgehog that was once running through Emerald Hills rescuing animals and running fast to blazing at hyper sonic speeds through outer space to save the Earth from a falling space station and before they, _Super Sonic_ and _Super Shadow_ (and the ship!), burn up in the atmosphere. Heroically, they use all their remaining power to make a MASSIVE _Chaos Control_ to teleport it away from earth... plus that song. The very idea of this fight _ascended_ what I imagined was possible for the characters Sonic and Shadow. I sat there in 2001, awestruck, motionless, with my mind blown the fuck out and the Dreamcast controller vibrating in my hands...
This was absolutely the best Sonic game of all time in my opinion. The story was incredible, the characters were great and memorable, the graphics were awesome, the controls were seamless, and it had by far the best, most epic music in any Sonic game ever made. This is the standard that I hold all Sonic games (and most video games of any kind) to even until this day.
but instead we get remakes of classic Sonic games for iOS & Android (which are nice don't get me wrong) and sonic 06, but we will never never have anything that will come close to this I believe.
xLxExEx I believe you might be a somewhat blinded. Sure, the game still holds some enjoyment but is no longer as close to the quality it once had. Besides, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is easily the best game of the Sonic franchise.
TheWraithOfMooCow People can have opinions, but that doesn't mean they're correct. The game has stayed the same while game development hasn't. What was once considered great before is know archaic and frustrating.
Try explaining this ending to a friend who's never played the game. [Edit: My memory of the game was hazy, but I've realized that I can make the game seem way more ridiculous by giving a more accurate description]: "So Sonic and Shadow use the power of the chaos emeralds to go super saiyan, then they take turns flying through outer space to punch a monster, which stops the monster from plunging an entire space station into the Earth. Oh, and the monster took a massive laser cannon capable of destroying a planet and shoved it up its ass before sending the space station it was attached to on a collision course with Earth." This game is fuckin' nuts. I love it.
Yes I agree with that yeah bring in rogue since now we got knuckles she was working for the president on the low when you play Sonic hero you find out so basically I believe she was already in the two movies but off screen 🤔😎💯
In my opinion he should have stayed dead. Not because I don't like him, it's because it would have been the best send off for his character and he would be with Maria in heaven
Shadow was the antagonist of this story in the beginning, but as the game progressed he slowly worked his way into our hearts and saved the world instead of his inital intention to destroy it. To have him sacrifice himself in the end after the game took us through a one of a kind story was perfect in my opinion. I'm sad watching this now because: 1 I am getting older:( and 2 it takes me back to a time where I really thought that Shadow was a one and done Sonic character. Seeing this ending now after all the crappy games that followed up really takes away from it all. I love Shadow, but having him die right here would have been perfect for the franchise as a whole. You can't just kill off a major character and have him come back in follow up games.
@@boyzaya15 Exactly. He didn't die. He fell back down to earth which is where "Shadow the Hedgehog" continues his story, even if it was a bad game. The other characters only assumed he was dead because... well... why wouldn't they?
Sonic 06 would have been a worthy successor if it wasn’t so buggy. Maybe the story didn’t work as well but if it weren’t as buggy, it probably would have been remembered for actually being a good sonic game. Yes you could argue that the story with Elise didn’t work but sega was taking a bold risk. Something the current sonic games are lacking.
The only reason Shadow ever came back was because everyone loved him. The main writer of the story created him to be a one time character. It shows how good of a character he was.
I have a soft-spot for this scene.. Im embaressed and proud to be embaressed.. I'd feel it any day... scene brought me to tearsss.. I was on the floor..
@@SolidArc91 I am. Shadow was such a great character to be killed off in the same game he debuted in. He hasn’t been written the best in modern day games but the same applies to most of the main cast of characters
My favorite part of is Robotnik and Tails having a conversation. Like I love when a hero and villian find common ground in their case furthing science.
remember playing this as a kid and never being able to finish the ending for Knuckles.. gave up after hundreds (literally hundreds) of attempts to come across this. The nostalgia and finally knowing the ending to my favorite childhood game is awesome yet sad at the same time... Man those were the days....
This game was actually wildly difficult at times so no shame in not finishing it. If I remember correctly, Knuckles had some of the most difficult missions. I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it now lol.
Dude I had the same problem with Super Mario RPG and Yoshi Story but I went back recently and beat both and I highly encourage you to take the time to finish your story. It's such a magical feeling you didnt know you set yourself up for.
Sonic and Rouge’s little talk really gets me. It speaks volumes more of shadow’s character development and even Rouge’s development as she is now more calm and gentle instead of being a grumpy thief. Not to mention shadow saved rouge from the island explosion and became great friends. So it must hurt for rouge to see this. Same even goes for sonic. Him and shadow had fights but in the end they learned each other’s way and became friends and sonic saw shadow’s motivations and started to understand him. So seeing shadow die showed him more of the meaning of a sacrifice for understanding others. BUT NOPE ALL OF THAT IS GONE IN THE FUTURE GAMES
5:02 Wow. I never realised this when I was a kid, but this game actually went the extra mile and showed Muslims in prayer for the Earth being saved. Kudos for the Sonic team putting that into the game. No modern game would feature them, in a positive light or otherwise. This is awesome.
Well shit.... I watched this for a bit of nostalgia, but now Remember... Looking back at this, a video game I played when I was in 3rd or 4th Grade, Now that I'm twenty three.. The feels came back to me... :'(
I felt the same... I was actually on the floor crying,... I'm serious.. I was... It was the best ending to happen ever... and shadow and all other characters..
It's nice to see Eggman NOT an asshole in the ending...I remember being a 10 year old and fighting that thing in SPACE AND THE MUSIC HOLY FUCK IT WAS INTENSE!!! Then you beat it and it gets all sad and you wanna cry...
I adore how at this point in the game everything is about to go to shit with the colony on a crash course with the planet, with less than ten minutes to the impact that will wipe out all life on it. Everybody inside the ARK is desperate, yelling to Sonic and Shadow what could be their final words. It's a straight-up end of the world scenario, and despite all of that the song playing in the background is brimming with positive lyrics and tone. The clashing contrast of the situation and the background music on one hand is a bit funny and even amusing. But on the other hand, there's something powerful about it. It's the music pointing out that against all odds, the bleakest outcome will not come through.
My favorite Sonic game by far. A lot of people don't realize this, but this boss gets WAY more epic if you stall it out as the prototype will start entering the atmosphere and stakes get a lot higher; there's more dialogue (not shown in this video) that most people never see because they beat it too quickly.
People always day Tails line at the end is cringey but hes like 10, what do you expect a little kid that just dealt with the humanity almost being destroyed amd a grown man being upset about his grandfather? And Tails has grown up a bit, he recognizes that he is apart of a team and not just a follower of Sonic.
Best ending in any game, ever. Sonic & Shadow transforming into Super Sonic & Super Shadow, joining forces with Dr Robotnik to defeat Dr. Robotnik's grandfather's masterplan and save the promise Shadow made to Maria Robotnik, Shadow making the ultimate sacrifice. All that while listening to the soundtrack from the Japanese rock band Crush40. BEST. EVER. UNBEATEN SINCE 2001.
That last shot of Shadow infront of earth still gives me goosebumps remembering how it felt completing this game and thinking he was dead before there was any mention of bringing him back
I agree, definitely the best ending. On a side note i can see why that despite its great success, Sonic mania gets so much flak from the adventure era fans. Christian whitehead made sonic mania to remind the classic era fans of the good times, As a hybrid fan( Im a fan of all 3 eras of Sonic the hedgehog), i wish that he makes sonic adventure 3, and do the same with the adventure era fans.
HAH! You think that's bad? The entire kingdom hearts SERIES is in comic sans, and it's still a great game. Admit it, you probably didn't even NOTICE until I pointed it out.
Who's here after the ending of Sonic Frontiers, it's been like 2 decades but I haven't felt like this since this game's ending, glad to finally have this level of depth and epicness into the mainline Sonic game.
This ending is f****** incredible. Such a huge part of my childhood :,). I don’t think it will ever be topped in a sonic game. The music made you feel like you were a complete badass
It's been 21 years, and I'm still crying to this very day... for real though... it was.. beautiful!! It really truly was... the rarest of the rare jewels..
Damn I remember when I used to take turns with my big bro on this part! I used to play shadow, and him sonic and we'd just pass the controller lol good times #nostalgia
Just finished this game at 22:45 today. I loved it so much. Even though the last stage took me FOREVER, I am so happy I got to play it. Best Sonic game ever.
This is by far my favorite sonic game, by a landslide. The same goes with the final boss and main theme. It's not even close with any other game in the franchise for me. Edit: Actually, the only boss that comes close to this is just a razor thin behind this, and that's Metal Overlord. Love that theme that goes with it!
I love sonic and everything about it. This is my favourite game of the series and one of my favourite games of all time. I would love for them to put it on PS4
I used to watch gameplay of this all the time as a kid, and today I just got to play it for the first time and while I forgot how this boss played out , everything came back to me when I first heard the song play bro I couldn’t hold back the tears. younger me wanted to play this game sooo bad
Let me tell you a story of how sensitive I am. When I read (I needed subs because I was a kid who couldn't understand english because it's not my first language) Shadow's last words and I saw what happened to him i started to cry. I started to cry and I had to leave the room. Everytime when I saw this ending (my brother and me we played that game very often) I had to leave the room otherwise I would cry. Every fucking time! XD Now I have to cry too. But only sometimes. And I don't need to leave the room anymore.
I recently replayed SA2 for the first time in many years and I have to say... I thought the game hadn’t age that well. But man, when I got to this final boss I remembered why I loved it so much as a kid.
I love this battle, just the concept of it is amazing by itself, two bitter enemy's joining forces to stop and even bigger monstrosity from destroying the world.
It was an explosion mate, of Biblical Proportions.. Truly Unprecedented.. left a whole in my heart.. I will never forget it.. ever.. I was on the floor.. Mightiest Catalyst/Chemical Reaction, ever.. This was undoubtedly not just favourite sonic game, but favourite game of all time..
