A shame the original developers have either become jaded or were replaced by new jaded developers, the sort that are just about the money and that's it.
From the perspective of a survivor of that day: “I was just a little boy of nine years old on that very day. I was out shopping with my mom. It was a normal day like any other. But then suddenly, we felt the rumbling from beneath the ground. That was when the water suddenly burst out of the manholes. Then the streets began to crumble as more water burst out. All I heard at the time was buildings crumbling and windows breaking as well as the sound of people panicking and running to safety, me and my mom included. Then we saw a giant tidal wave heading towards us as it plowed through the rest of Station Square, during which I fell and hit my head, knocking me out. When I came to, I was on one of the rooftops of the now devastated city along with my mom and several other survivors. We all thought the worst was over but then we saw it: one of the more taller buildings that stayed somewhat stable began to crack until finally the upper floors burst open in a large torrent of water, but instead of falling, the water stayed still as if it were floating in the air. That was when the water formed into a giant dragon-like creature completely made out of water and let out a loud intimidating roar. Everyone thought it was the end of the world and I couldn’t blame them. Just then, we all saw a huge air ship heading towards the monster. It belong to that mad scientist Dr. Robotnik, who no doubt was only trying to destroy that monster just so nothing would stand in his way of taking over the world. However, that monster showed how powerful it was by firing a large energy beam out of its mouth and destroying the air ship very easily. After that, I saw seven lights shooting out of its body and into different parts of the city. I don’t know what they were but they did have the same colors as the seven Chaos Emeralds that read about in some of my grandpa's old books. I didn’t what was gonna happen next, but then suddenly I heard people cheering someone on. Turned out it was Sonic, the heroic hedgehog that I’ve often seen in the news. Suddenly, a large bright light suddenly burst out from where Sonic was standing and when it faded away, I saw Sonic but now no longer blue but a bright golden yellow surrounded by similarly colored light. He flew off and engaged the giant monster in long and epic battle. Eventually he succeeded in defeating it. After that, I saw what looked like the monster reduced to a small puddle and reformed itself into a much smaller creature. Just then, a young echidna girl along with several small Chao approached the creature. I couldn’t hear what she was saying since they were too far away, but it looked like the creature seemed to be at peace. The girl then held the creature’s hands as the two began to float off and disappear into the sky. It’s been almost 25 years since that day. Even though I have since moved to Soleanna and have started my own family, I still remember that fateful day. My mom currently lives in Central City but on occasion helps with the reconstruction effort of Station Square. They say reconstruction of the city should done in about a year, just in time for the 25th anniversary of that fateful disaster. I plan to visit Station Square once it is. After all, I helped out in sculpting a statue of Sonic for the occasion.”

Perfect chaos just casually killing an entire city to make an entrance is still such a cool and horrible thing to see. It's amazing to see what I remember of this scene and what I've forgotten.
It’s freaking terrifying that when Chaos becomes Perfect Chaos, he can control water anywhere (in buildings and oceans), flood cities, and destroy buildings. It also would be horrific if I were able to witness him form after breaking through the building like he does here, scream, and then open his eye.

Blue Typhoon2017 There is 100% evidence lol it’s literally stated in this game, Chao’s were the original protectors of the master emerald and chaos was a Chao who mutated from basking in the glow of the master emerald.
Sometimes I wish Crush 40 made a live action music video of them playing Open Your Heart at the top of a building in the game while all of this chaos is a happening
This was the scariest intro i saw in my childhood! XD Its actually quite grim if you think about it all those people that you'd talked to washed away in a few minutes! I hope one day they reference what station square looks like in the present of sonic's universe!

@@capitaln8826 Looking at the city from the other cut scenes, Station Square honestly reminds me of New York city a LOT, so I'd be willing to bet they have fairly similar populations. New York has a population of about 8 million. If we assume the rate of people dying from Chaos is similar to the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we can expect around a quarter to die. Which means I'd expect Chaos killed around 2 million.
@@FluffyIronGolems Keep in mind of course, chaos isn't exactly a 'mass flood' either. Honestly, there's not really any tragedy we can easily compare to chaos. He had water coming out of the tallest point of skyscrapers, meaning he probably flooded the whole interior of those buildings. Honestly, I think nuclear bomb is a good baseline for that at the very least.
@Zachary Erickson I think that the government was lying to try to avoid a mass panic, keep it in the range of "tragic natural disaster", and not "apocalyptic doom". We see the government become more extreme in later games, so downplaying the scale of the destruction is certainly within reason
@Zachary Erickson That GUN truck sure didn't care much for collateral damage. They also fired missiles into populated areas and seemed to be actively fighting a war against Eggman (if the military presence around his base is anything to go by).
Well it's not using in-game visuals, so it doesn't really have anything to do with the dreamcast's capabilities, but what resources they had to make a computer animated scene at the time, which still looks really good for 1998.

Perfect Chaos has remained my favorite Kaiju throughout all of my life, having first seen it when I was but a wee lad... But with the stuff I'm into now, it terrifies me that such a beast could truly exist in our 98% unexplored oceans... Or in this case, IS our oceans...

Even to this day, the CGI in this scene has aged flawlessly and still looks like pure, unadulterated terror and destruction incarnate as it was back then and even now.
Who the heck cleaned all this up after the fight? Chaos went in the Master Emerald with Tikal, and Sonic ran and left them, so the both of them sure didn't. "All's well that ends well!" my butt, Tails.
Original MeemBird - The Perfect Chaos of Generations was based on concept art, with glowing green parts and such. I honestly don't like its model as much as the cut scene look of the character, but it would be an improvement over the in-game model for sure.

This was the first game I've ever played. The first game I've ever completed. Seeing Perfect Chaos come out of that tower and roar is to this day my favorite scene in gaming.
@EzioAuditoreXIII This cutscene was created in CG, something that the consoles since around the Saturn was capable of producing. It would be really kick-ass if in 10 years time, home consoles would be displaying everything in CG & not just in cutscenes.

Sa2 implies it's still around since Tails wins an emerald at the city hall, which couldn't happen before the flood since Knuckles had 6 emeralds and Big had one
I know station square is downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And I feel sorry that 2,856,427 citizens of station square (Aka Downtown Pittsburgh) died because of Chaos' gigantic monster form and his distruction too.

This scene is considerd to be pretty dark for a Sonic game, because it assumes all the people die from drowning. Think about that next time you hear someone say: "Sonic games are not edgy."
What really tops this scene off is the ambience, no score or shitty "kaiji" music or droning. It's the silence while watching a monster roars no distraction
If we will get to see a 4th sonic movie, then I think it should be based on sonic adventure and it would be cool to see chaos, tikal and the chao in the sonic film series
