I appreciate the effort that was taken for compiling all of this stuff, even though some notes aren't strictly correct (my fault for not documenting enough tbh), like the bubble shield or air meter as I didn't activate all the code for them just what was necessary to make them visible. I could probably compile another set of cut stuff that would make for another lengthy segment (such as some leftover objects past the goal in World 8-2, the Jump Board object being a straight copy paste from Colours down to its leftover coding, camera code leftover for the cube wisp, etc.) but time hasn't been so kind to me when it comes to documenting all of this stuff. Maybe one day 🙏 Nonetheless good video on the matter!
If I remember correctly, when I was younger and playing Sonic Lost World on the 3DS, I was really confused why Sonic wasn't running in the game, because I knew Sonic's trademark thing was running. Eventually, I just assumed they must've decided to change Sonic's core idea for this game, and that Sonic must just not be able to run much in this one. I later learned there was a run button
@@JP_Soup If I were to guess, it is probably one of a few things: A run button worked better for the new wall-running mechanics in Lost World (it can give a greater sense of control to the player) A run button was more approachable for the younger/general audience Lost World was trying to capture (in older Sonic titles, he builds up speed over time and gradually gets faster, which would mean controls could reach a point where it get a bit difficult to manage for newcomers) Overall though, I don't know why they did it. It isn't something that SEGA has flat out abandoned though, Sonic Frontiers does something similar, though instead of a "run button" it's a "boost button"; they just have Sonic's top speed much lower when he's not boosting in Frontiers to incentivize using the boost.
So, something you pointed out at the 54:40 mark of the video is how occasionally Zomom (and Zeena apparently) mentions eating Sonic and/or Eggman. It's not because they're cannibals or something to that nature, its because they're based off of the mythical creatures known as Oni. In some stories, Oni would devour humans whole, humans were typically seen as easy prey. So I guess for Sonic's world, humans and whatever Sonic's people are called would fall under that. A character that I'm reminded of when thinking about this is Osric (or spelled Ozric in Onimusha: Blade Warriors) from Onimusha: Warlords. This Oni character would occasionally speak about eating humans while terrorizing them.
I haven't watched the full video yet but it is so bizzare to see my 8 year video included here. I was a child with GT 520 back then. Small correction, locking FPS isn't normally supported. It was capping to 30FPS, which adds frameskip (SLW normally slows down in low FPS), which is why those glitches appear. SEGA themselves released this ability to cap or uncap FPS as a "public beta test patch" and warned everybody of those problems. Back then I've used this video to mock this patch, since this old GPU couldn't handle Hedgehog Engine higher than 30FPS (capping FPS is always a dumb idea in PC ports imho). I was unable to ask my parents for a better GPU and I only got 750ti 2 years later, which I have right now (yep, still suffering with the old GPUs). At least SLW works full speed, lol.
About Sonic Team being split into Team A and B... there's something everyone seems to forget and doesn't realise that unfortunately makes the situation worse. Taking half the team away from Sonic 06 to work on the Wii is bad enough... but the team was already split BEFORE that even, as while one half of Sonic Team were working on Sonic 06 the other half were working on Phantasy Star Universe. Coincidentally, both Sonic 06 and PSU released together in EUR/PAL on November 24th 2006.
I don’t see this game as Mario Galaxy clone other game developers copy Mario but went Sonic does something similar Sonic is the one who gets criticized
the developer notes on the concept art single-handedly made me appreciate this game more, may not be anyone’s favorite but there was effort and care put into it.
Yo it's Sonic Peak World. (still probably my biggest guilty pleasure) Always interesting hearing about it cause nobody ever seems to discuss it anymore.
Really interesting video as ever! There was a lot of information in here that I had never heard before. I just quickly want to mention in regards to "baku baku scaffolding" that "baku baku" effectively translates to "chomp chomp" (or "to eat quickly") and the actual Japanese word that Google says is "scaffolding" is "ashiba" which can also mean "footholds" or "footing".
@@CifeskDamn man, I’d think Runners at least would have something of interest to talk about considering it was an in-house production made by Sonic Team. It was a full release in almost every regard. Then again PatMac made an excellent video covering just about everything there was to talk about regarding the game so maybe it isn’t needed. It would be interesting to see if anything new has been discovered, or your take on a video regarding it though. Same question applies to the Dimps games as well. Either way I can respect the decision not to cover the mobile games, they’re mostly uninteresting but there are a few which are a cut above the rest.
@@phorchybug3286It understands Classic Sonic level design perfectly but fumbles the bag in most other aspects of the series. I really think people would like it if it were a spinoff featuring IDK, Blaze or Metal or fuckin Knuckles
I think it's a good game, I just wish they added a more interesting way to play with the physics. Everything feels a little too stiff, which makes platforming a bit boring. Far from a bad game though, just not one I find particularly enjoyable
If it understood classic Sonic level design, it would have slopes to build momentum rather than a run button. Sonic Adventure 1 does that way better imo.
I don't think this is unused but someone said that eggman called a different zeti to first fight sonic and it wasn't zazz. Though that could of been error on the VA's part confusing them with a different character. Because I can't find an evidence of it
Late comment lol. There wasn't as much interestin stuff here as wit others imo. Not ur fault obv but it seems like despite there bein a wealth of stuff enough for a similarly lengthed vid the bulk of this was either stuff I alr knew, stuff I alr accurately assumed/guessed or were so minor it wouldn't' mean much to most overall. I'm guessin u couldn't find anythin for the 3DS version which sucks. I'm not a fan of LW at all but it's crazy how it feels like a weird twist where we got somethin unexpected that wasn't anythin special in the end, jus like when the game was 1st announced then released. I'm excited for the remakes & more. As always incredibly unique & helpful. I salivate at a new upload in my feed lol.
"…but it looks nothing like any other wisp in this game…" Really? You don't think it looks even a little bit like the 3D Eagle Wisp model you showed earlier, just with two eyes instead of 3? Addenda: Forgot to include time stamps. 3D Model was at the 36:20 timestamp, and the quoted statement is a bit after the 36:41 timestamp.
I would love to, but I would have to speak to modders and have them willingly share some cut / unused content or concept art and whatnot, and yeah I would probably cover multiple mods in one video (probably related to one game specifically)
Thank you for making this video, showing the cut content and some more. Lost World might be the best level of Sonic Adventure 1, but not about the game itself, get it? 😂
I can't remember exactly which file it is, I think the test mission one, there's a comment referencing all the wisps and there a snake one referenced. I'm pretty sure that's where they got it from. I can't remember well tho, last time I went through the game's file was over a year ago
No that was Heroes. Followed by 06 being Adventure 4, Unleashed being Adventure 5, and Frontiers being Adventure 6. Lost World is a 3D platformer but it doesn't have the RPG elements that define what makes an Adventure game
Hi! Could you please tell me what font you used for the Chapters transition? I’m working on a mod that Remakes the Lost World UI, but I can’t find a similar font to the original used in the Loading Screens of the levels.
Futura Extra with a drop shadow and stroke effect in Photoshop Drop shadow: 46º angle, 10px distance, 100% spread, 16px size Convert it to a smart object and then add a red stroke of 7 px
You could assume it's B considering that Colours, Lost World and Forces share a lot of the same tech / issues Though the team isn't split anymore, it probably just turned into the main team
Sonic Team B since Morio Kishimoto was the game designer for Secret Rings and Black Knight. He was the game director for Colors and Lost World and he also was for Forces and Frontiers so it’s most likely Sonic Team B.
The Wii U/PC version sucks so much. I just booted it up after not playing for a year. played Desert Ruins Act 1, and got eaten by a worm twice because the controls are awful.
