2:30 Ya know it's funny, I always thought it was pronounced "Warehog"! And it gave me a confusing surprise to know that it was pronounced "Werehog"! I dunno about you, but when you say the word, it sounds like it should be pronounced Warehog!
17:34 No, it was because they wanted to release it in time for a McDonald's promotion, but they only had half of the game ready. They also invented the lock-on tech _for_ this game specifically.
15:50 quick note - EVERY game engine since the dawn of time uses backface culling. 17:17 Most 3D game engines render the scene back-to-front so as to avoid objects far away from popping out to the front.
19:00 Isn't that model used in Shadow's story? There's a moment where he has to light up a fountain to recreate the Scepter, in preparation for his rematch with Mephiles. Picking up the Scepter is what triggers that infamous outtake from the GUN Agent!
What if in an alternate timeline, Sonic Unleashed had an Adventure-styled gameplay? Had 06 been better-recieved. With multiple playable characters, while split into two teams of six; Hero(Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream, Gemerl) and Dark(Shadow, Rouge, Omega, Jet, Wave, Storm). With the former team being in the Day Time. While the latter in the Night Time. And the night stages were also fast-paced. With Shadow being written by Shiro Maekawa and also had a Super Form. And if Chao Gardens were included? While Chip had a high-pitched voice in the English dub? How'd the game have been like? How well would it have been recieved?
What would be the recommended settings for emulating Sonic Heroes and Shadow the hedgehog on dolphin because they run pretty poorly on my computer. It might be a hardware issue, but Sonic Unleashed on Xenia runs just fine for me.
I love that Aaron still there behind the scenes still trying to push Sonic Team to be better. I miss him as Community manager but he's doing good work over there in Japan.
I havent seen anyone say it regarding the early version of the main theme but you can actually hear it if you have mega collection plus, it has a early version of the intro to heroes as a bonus video and the video uses the gibberish version of the theme
The unused springs that let you bounce upward with forward speed momentum would've been used for stages to make them flow better imo Tho I do understand having to use springs that launch you at a fixed angle but I'd prefer the ones where they let you preserve your forward speed while still being lifted up like the classics
Random fact I want to share about Frontiers: it actually *does* support baked GI lightmaps/shadowmaps, and pre-baked light-field. The lightmaps are used in the indoor/temple sections of Ares/Chaos/Ouranos Island for example. And while shadowmaps and pre-baked light-field aren't used in the game at all (since the light-field's colored in real-time), I've ported some stages from older HE2-based games (M&S Tokyo 2020, Sakura Wars, and Olympics 2020 (the one with humans) specifically) and since the file formats are identical, the game has no issue with reading them. That out of the way, I wanted to say, this was quite well-researched, and def an interesting watch. Especially as someone who actually tends to like working with lighting/materials.
