Follow me on social media: linktr.ee/izzivoices Ranking every box art cover in the Sonic main series. Sonic the Hedgehog is owned by Sega. #sonicsuperstars
Update: The reversible cover for Sonic Superstars has a lot of appeal. Tropical themed with the mecha fish in the BG. Putting Fang there is a nice touch. I rank it B, lower than regular cover.
I believe the "all new sonic" on the gamecube Heroes art does belong as it came out right after two remasters (they look worse but still), so people may assume it could be another remaster or old game brought over.
My favorite is Adventure 2 with Sonic and Shadow’s cool poses, and the contrast, I guess, of the blue and red. Both versions of Unleashed come right after which might be because of my Unleashed bias, but I don’t care
I love your way of approaching and ranking these covers. I could also tell how enthusiastic and passionate you feel about sonic when describing them, which puts a smile on my face! ❤
Nice 😀. My favourite covers are Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes because there are my favourite and they are iconic in their own right.
Great video! Like how you ranked them all. I do have a comment on the Sonic forces segment. I think Tails wasn’t meant to Classic Sonic sidekick, instead I think they intended the opposite. It may sound crazy but look closely at the dialogue and you may notice especially later, Classic despite being playable is just following Tails orders and Tails even took him under his wing about twice clearly, one when Sonic gave a mission to Tails and one where Rouge told him to “move.” Also Sonic suggesting they will see each other again in a future game. I think this game was trying to treat Tails as Modern Sonic’s equal. The terrible execution though definitely didn’t help.
I feel like you should've put Sonic 3D Blast here as it's just as relevant to the series as Sonic 4, maybe even a bit more. I feel like people don't think of Sonic 4 at all when thinking about mainline Sonic games. Also imo I think CD Japan and EU/2011 should've been swapped. The Japanese cover just feels super awkward with the pic of metal and sonic just in a black box dead in the center, the shapes background isn't as prominent as 1,2,3 and the logo being very stretched for no reason, which makes it harder to read. With the EU/2011 cover, I like how it's cropped so close, they're butting heads showing tension, which is a better representation of their rivalry in the game. The Sonic OVA even portrays that with its most memorable scene where they're butting heads during their battle. Just my personal take, but I respect yours as well👍
Great tier list! My favorites here are Sonic & Knuckles, (the one you put in S tier )both SA1 and 2 Dreamcast covers, and Sonic Unleashed North American version. (I think the Japanese cover is good but too cluttered)
The Sonic 2 american cover always weirded me out so much as a kid because of the Eggman design, I used to look at it and say "this pirate appears nowhere in the game".
Why is everyone hating on the forces one? I know i like it cuz i have a bias on forces but i really like the pose of sonic and the backround with the city as well
someone likes their US covers! (which is nice. gotta appreciate the love) the spin-offs have some good covers too. you should give it a ranking vid too
Hey here’s a video idea could you do a video about ranking of the main series Sonic game’s stories and you better include the story book games cause they have stories that are worth talking about
Sonic Advance 1, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Advance 3, Sonic Battle, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic and the Black Knight are mainline games
My favorite Sonic games are Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed, and Sonic, and the Black Knight games have great voice acting, great story - wise, and good characterization of the characters. I'll give those games an S tier.
The Storybook games are set in separate worlds and themed after ancient tales. Let's take this opportunity to bring Sonic to places he's never been to before. They have 'spin-off' written all over them.
@@charactersin-depth3472 bro, sonic starts off in his world in secret rings and is transported to another one from a genie. Obviously they are canon. They have mainline written all over them. Secret rings was mentioned in generations, and black knight takes place right after unleashed as he has a chili dog in his hand after he gets transported to the black knight world. Sonic 4 isn’t canon. Plus they also have cool box art, sounds like you just don’t know what you are talking about 🤷♂️
I really like the different colors on Sonic for the sonic Genesis gba box art compared to the original genesis box art. That’s the only thing I like about the game lol
I don't dislike the Sonic Forces cover that much, even if I agree with some of your criticism of it. The bottom part is cluttered, but that matches the idea of an all-out war. And the damages in the background "overselling" the game is more the game's fault than the box art's. To me, the cover is just fine, nothing special. Something like the European CD boxart looks much worse to me. I agree with everything else you've said about it though, and I see why you dislike it so much.
@@monique6490 A good Video-game boxart has to attract the buyer and not just look generic , that's why most people prefer the 2D art-style to 3D. 2D Animation and illustrations have opportunities for a larger variety of expressions than 3D Illustrations Does that answer your question?
I'm sick and tired of the clear and annoying Bias towards the American classic sonic box arts. they're not that good, i a personally always hated the American design for sonic in the 90s. I don't know why everyone acts like they're the peak of Sonic Cover art. They're not.
