HI. It seems that this video was cut short. Or, it is the first video of a series. How can i find the complete video or the next video of the series?

with the last point yeah people are definitely not gonna just benefit from doing what happy people do since everyone's different, people have different levels of skill, executive functioning, social skills, social energy, neurodiversity, etc so its not just a silver bullet lol

so, that means unfortunate people who got unhappy genes gonna be 50% less happier than those of the happy genetical people though tout their life , unless one changes the genetic pattern right?

That's a good question. I don't know, but I have read that epigenetics plays a role in the expression of genes that affect mood. In other words, a person may have genes that give them a low baseline of happiness, but those genes may not be expressed until they are environmentally triggered. What I took away from that part of the chart, is that for those individuals who have a low genetic set-point for happiness, long-term anti-depressant therapy is probably a reasonable treatment.

Not quite. It means that roughly 50% of your happiness level is determined by your genes, so you have no control over that portion. It doesn't mean that the amount of happiness your genes control is measured between 0 and 50 units. Look at it this way: if 50% of your arm strength was determined by genetics, 10% by diet, and 40% by exercise, you wouldn't predict that genetically muscular people could automatically lift twice as much weight as genetically delicate people. First of all, the part determined by DNA is not on an absolute 0-to-50 scale, and second, the diet and exercise influences also build (or reduce) strength.

Yes, but if someone is genetically half happy this doesn't mean that this person will gets 0% out of the 50%. this person will get 25% since he's "genetically" half happy. What she was trying to say is that genetics can play a big role in defining someone's happiness. I think.

@@StaringAtAScreen So does this imply that altering genes (either their expression or their underlying code) that control one's mood could potentially have a noticeable effect on someone's overarching mood/happiness?
@StaringAtAScreen
@StaringAtAScreen 3 года назад
@@chayblay Yes, definitely. Although the “altering” is from environmental exposure, not gene therapy. My personal opinion is that there is Nobel prize around the corner for the identification of genes that affect our predisposition to depression.

If 50% of our happiness is controlled by our genes, shouldn't we be encouraging more of us to become geneticists and remake happier people in the future?

Maybe the genes cannot be erased or remade. Kind of like what generational trauma looks like, it's in the genes and behavior.

you don't need to become a genetist, if you have the happy genes just have more kids than average and humanity will produce more happy people in the future
