Sonny Bono's songs are so underappreciated. He had a great knack for not only writing memorable melodies but also experimenting with different instruments (obo on Little Man, sitar on this one, etc.). Great song!
Sonny was definitely the brains of the outfit. He wrote some terrific songs and guided them to superstardom. He is severely underestimated, much as Desi Arnaz. Rest in Peace, Desi & Sonny.
Agree completely. Cher had a good voice and was attractive. Sonny was absolutely the brains behind it all. Obviously a very talented person. I thought of them as pretty much a joke growing up. But now that I hear their songs later, I realize they were quite creative. I really do appreciate Sonny's willingness to take risks and incorporate various instruments into songs, like this, wherein the instruments employed are not ones a person would typically use for the genre of music.
Песня «A Cowboy’s Work Is Never Done» в переводе с английского - «Трудам ковбоя нет конца» из альбома американского поп-дуэта Сонни и Шер All I Ever Need Is You (1971).
Oh my gosh I remember this couple when I was growing up. The world was so simple and innocent not like kids have today. At least I have my memories of a time permanently gone. ❤ they can sing anything and make it wonderful.
Incredible beat and harmonious chords and notes sung by Sonny & CHER. She is gorgeous in a glittery black affair as she sings an amazing 70's song that Sonny wrote that never gets old. The tune and lyrics transcend time.

C'mon... the guitar work on this classic song is awesome, the horn section was spot-on, and the writing was perfect for those 2. R.I.P Sonny... and continued success for the one and only Cher.
I installed Sonny & Cher's telephone once when they were preforming near Washington D.C.. Only Sonny and their cute blond daughter was in the hotel on that day. He seemed like a normal friendly guy. I was hoping that the guy helping me would NOT ask him for his autograph, but he did, so I asked for an autograph picture also for my girlfriend. Nice guy!
Now that I see it, the lead string instrument played by the guy in the foreground is an electric sitar which was often used in many recordings then. It had a very distinctive sound and was strung in the same way as a standard electric guitar. He's got it going though a wah-wah pedal as well. I always wondered how that voicing was done! It's so great to see this. Thanks again....
@Samantha Díaz Yes very. She had numerous number ones, numerous records, 3 TV variety shows, had a TV special, made guest appearances on other TV shows, made magazine covers, and numerous other things. The 70's were very successful for Cher with the exception of her 1975, 1976, and 1977 albums that are now considered collectable. She started in the 60's which were also very successful for Cher.
We must all thank Sonny because I don't think without him we would've got to enjoy Cher for 50 years and still counting....May he Rest In Peace. Cher is and always will be 2nd to none !!!
The song A Cowboys Work Is Never Done by Sonny and Cher climbed to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972, and was also covered by Ray Conniff that same year.
@elfhermie Could not agree more! Sonny wrote such quirky, memorable songs. He didn't have much of a singing voice, but despite this, he was an oddly effective vocalist. The combination of his voice with Cher's really worked. Sonny knew how to write a beat and a hook, both of which make many of his songs unforgettable.
I just heard this song for the first time on the Radio. Had to come back and listen to it again. What a great song, These two were really magical together. Their sound, that guitar, and those horns wow! I was born in 79, So i was not too familiar with the duo. Cheers!
What a fantastic live performance of a fairly involved arrangement that is so faithful to the original recording. Sound quality for television music had greatly improved in a very few years from the way it was even up to the mid-60s. Cher was maybe in her mid to late 20s here. They made some great music together. Thanks so much for posting this.
Sorry, not live. And musicians' sound, not live. That's why it all sounds like the record. But I agree with what you had to say about them and how music had improved.
Probably my favorite Sonny & Cher song after I Got You Babe and the jazzy, always cool The Beat Goes On. Sonny Bono was NOT a singer, but his flat, weirdly nasal voice partnered well with Cher on certain songs and this was one of them. I like the witty lyric also and the music--that wah-wah, the sitar and the drums--are a stand-out. Great clip; thanks for posting it!
Possibly cause both songs ( 'Bang Bang' & 'Cowboy's work' ) were both written by the same great song writer who wrote 'I got you babe' and several other classic songs = Sonny Bono
i still have the 45 i bought back when it came out i was around 11 regular sleeve in a rainbowish style love their songs and thier show glad to have found this on your site thanks
