So the A6400 has terrible image wobble in 4K during faster movements but excellent 4K but terrible 1080P where the Canon has better 1080P but 4k is not as detailed but also has less rolling shutter. Non of them are real winners just some sort of compromise. So with gimbal or tripod 4K Sony is the winner for video for handheld I would go with the Canon.
Interesting. I could not tell any dif in audio between the 2. Then again, I am listening on my cell. Just got a m6 having never been a Canon shooter & am having a blast..
뉴욕패디Juliana줄리 hi Juliana God bless you. I got the canon m50 takes great photos and good 1080p video with just the kit lens great starter camera for RU-vid. What will you be using it for?
DUDE, I have spend hours on youtube looking at various review videos for those two cameras, and your video (this one) really was the BEST, just wanted to say thank you for that. I now know that the Sony will be my new vlogging camera!-) keep it up man, the quality and look of your video was also amazing. african greetings
and to the a6400? Does the A6400 downsample 1080 the way it downsamples 4k?. Where do you find such a spec that says downsampling, anyway? Thanks ! BTW I bet the A6400 1080 is not as good as from the EOS R.
If you already own a M50 with just the kit lens and you are wanting new lenses and a new primary camera, should you be looking at the a6400/a6600 or the M6 Mark ii? I'm torn because I feel moving to Sony is a better choice, but then I expect that I would need to abandon the M50 instead of reusing it as a secondary camera in my studio.
I see this is old, but I disagree with this. There is no reason you would need to abandon the M50, if you already have the lenses for it, it would make a great secondary camera. The Sony would be better for overall upgrading since it uses the same lenses as the full frames. If you went the route of the M6mkII you could reuse your lenses yes, but you would need to change lenses anyway if you want to upgrade to full frame.
The dedicated dials for aperture and shutter and the full touch screen to change settings, plus small lenses, easy menu system, plus the IS enhance make the M6ii a compelling choice for ease of use as a hybrid camera. I can forego the slight advantage of higher video image quality of the Sony and go with the Canon M6ii while some bodies are still available. It will be interesting to see what the R10 from Canon will bring to replace M6ii and 90D. But this would be a second camera for me and small body and lenses are important so M6ii could be best. Great review.
I’m a hybrid shooter with the original M6. I’ve been really happy with it so far(2 years with it) , overall size is really important to me. I contemplated the a6600 but I think I’ll just get the M62 . I have AirPods in and actually preferred the canon audio ( but I use a Rode video micro bracketed off to the side anyway) Well put together video!
Sigh Sony looks sharper in 4k, but the canon is better in 1080p. Sony doesn't use the 6k for the 1080p. Makes me sad, cause I livestream as well. Color better out the box with Canon, but you get more dynamic range with the Sony picture settings. Really hard choice
thanks for the test. I'm migrating from panasonics to either canon or sony since I want to take photography more seriously ( I work with video). I was between either canon eos R or a7III But considering spending more money on lenses and find myself between the a6400, m6mii (or x-t3) . Your full frame lens argument didn't convince me.. I would be fine with just the 22, the 16 and the 32. You think once the 24p comes the m6ii will be good enough for video? is it's hd much softer than sony's hd? It doesn't have to much extremelly sharp but just good enough. And c-log can be fixed with eoshd profiles...
@@outdoorslifestyle2900 i bought a EOS R today after months deciding. I got m6mkii and EOS rp 10 bit files and found it a downgrade coming from Panasonic. Really soft 4k. Between xt3 a7iii and EOS R I picked up the E because even with the crippled 4k I think it Will be better for me. I really like Canon c log and Stills look good. I prefer the digital stabilozer vs Ibis and Sony Ibis is much worse than panny/oly
I'm curious as to a few things to make this an all in one: which one has clean HDMI out (for streaming) and better bang for buck, considering Sony lenses are really expensive.
Which of these two is putting out the best 1080p video quality: the M6 Mk II or the A6400? Not interested in 4K because of the file sizes and won't upload in this resolution. Is A6400 rolling shutter in 1080p not noticeable?
Haven't used the 90D myself, but from what i've seen it does everything the M6II does for video with the addition of a headphone jack, better hdmi port, and a crop mode that produces higher quality 4k video.
Dude, even if the SONY screen allows you to attach a microphone it would still be blocking the user from using the screen so they both suck in that aspect. Dont know why they both didnt make it like the M50 screen that swings to the side
Pal specs for M6 II. :) Canon only omits 24/25FPS for NTSC. 4K - 3840 x 2160 (29.97, 25 fps) Full HD - 1920 x 1080 (119.88, 100, 59.94, 50, 29.97, 25 fps) HD - 1280 x 720 (59.94, 50 fps) HDR - 1920 x 1080 (29.97, 25 fps) 4K Timelapse - 3840 x 2160 (29.97, 25 fps)
Sony color science is horrible. I had a 6500 and sold it for a M6 Mark 2, the difference in sharpness like he saiod is minimal but the skin colors are enough to make me barf on the Sony.
In video mode, do either of these cameras have the ability to set the frame rate, shutter speed, and aperture, then set ISO to auto and have it adjust not only before pressing record but also while recording? I have an M50 and doesn't seem to work this way so I'd consider either of these two cameras if it has that ability. Thanks for the video!
@@madeyudhiarsana8018 Hi thanks for the reply. I just realized that the M50 will do it except not always accurate. For example it gets stuck at 1200 ISO in a dark situation that probably calls for 12000 ISO. Maybe its the lens I was using, will experiment with other lenses.
Hi Ben :) Fellow youtuber here :) First off: nice video! It only further cemented my decision to buy this camera. That is IF I can confirm this one thing first. I posted a question about my "problem" on reddit but haven't gotten a response, so could you please help me out here? Here is a copy of my post: *I recently created an overhead rig for my rx100 V. I planned on just leaving it up with all the settings dialed in, and when I need it- just turn on and start recording. A 1 touch operation. Thing is: Memory recall saves everything EXCEPT focus for some reason. So every time I turn it on, the manual focus is reset, so I spend time to punch in, set the focus, punch out and THEN start. As a more feature packed camera I am hoping that the a6400 does not have this issue. As this is quite a niche thing I couldn't find the answer on google, so I turn to you guys for help: Can the a6400 save the manual focus setting in memory recall?* -Thanks, Stefan
Just tested it. The a6400 does not save the manual focus setting to memory recall. However, unlike the rx100 series it does persist the manual focus between power cycles.
Thanks, you convinced me to get the M6 II for both video and stills. :-) I'll be shooting with Canon L lenses and I was blown away by Potato Jet's fun video on shooting with $64,000 worth of cinema rig with the M50 and a Viltrox 0.17 speed booster - really wonderful footage, and not so different from what you can get from the M6 with Viltrox and really good Canon lenses, e.g., 24-105 F4 L IS and 135mm F/2.
Outdoors in good lighting conditions the results will be mostly the same. But the a6400's larger sensor combined with the ability to attach a fast prime lens will yield much better results in poor light.
Well he said what I wanted to hear during the first 90 seconds " He said the Sony gives you a sharper Image than the Canon" and he even showed the results side my side ( top downs actually) Boom end of story Why can't other reviewers to the same ! ? Great if you can make a similar side by side ( actually Top down) between The ZV-E10 and the A6400. I will sub to this man
In 1080P the Canons are far better in my experience, but the A6400 downsampled 4K is beautiful. I've got the M50 and M6 Mark II, but my business partner has 2x A6400s. For our RU-vid videos we use the A6400s in 4K in the studio. It just looks amazing.
@@jhalscott . Which one is good in 1080p ... Sony a6400 Or canon m50?.. I don't use 4k so no matter for me.. Please suggest and which lens would best to get best dynamic range and video quality for both?
Great video - keep on the good work! Any comments on video image stabilization? A6400 with OSS lens vs Eos M6 II with EIS and/or IS lens? Which one would you recommend for handheld video shooting?
yes Sony has sharper 4K but with a big rolling shutter Canon have sharper full HD about dynamic range seems better must be Sony with S-Log profiles? Or Canon have something like this too? For the interior video that you choose?
Hi Ben. I d like buy a camera to shot video for remodeling houses. I don’t have time or opportunities to repeat the shot. Probably no perfect light, just some job site lights. Which one do you suggest me that cost 1000 or less? Thx
i would love to ask, is it really that visible, that most people recommend Canon M6 Mark II for stills? even tho Sony is sharper? :O How come. I actually ordered M6 Mark II, but was dissapointed, becasue i thought Sony shoots better stills because of its sharpness. Am i wrong
OK, I have to ask, who uses the built in mic on any camera? Also there are very inexpensive options for mounting a decent microphone off center or else where on either camera, which leaves out the Sony shotgun mic since it relies on the hot shoe electrical connections. Both are excellent cameras, but these seem to be odd concerns with both of them.
What’s keeps me away from Sony cameras is their menu system. Canon’s is easy to find and you can favorite them. Also the sony video codec sometimes doesn’t show up on iOS if you edit photos/videos on an iPad. Despite what i said, I think I’m leaning towards the A6400 next. SInce its cheaper with a kit lens than the m6 ii w/kit lens.
Yeah. Its not great. But once you setup your own setting and use the Fn function button its super easy. It takes a total of a few hours to get it setup just the way you like it, but after that. its not an issue.
Hey Ben, How do they perform with the Sigma 18-35? I heard elsewhere that the sony AF gets really noisy and unreliable when use with the sigma and converter. Is that true and how does it compare with how the eos m6 mii perform?
well....my A 6400 is just a beast. I really enjoy it for stills, especially macro works but and there is a "but", the focus stacking option on the EOS RP and the M6MKII is simply amazing which is a really awesome feature which Sony doesn´t want it. Why? I don´t know. I think both are really excellent camera but If I had to choose..probably I´ll be Canon. Best all, Remus
It's a little contradicting to say that EF-M lenses are smaller (while also slower) and to say that users are more likely to adapt DSLR glass since there are too few native EF-M lenses or else there's no way out.
Clearly explained. So Over all I think I should go fo sony a6400 for a better camera and video. But I think sony a6400's photos are still good than Canon M6. Just an opinion. 🤔😌
Funny you ask. I'm renting an EM5 Mark iii in for a trip this weekend. Plan on doing a video or two about it. I'll be sure to check out the weather sealing.
A6400 is better low light, has way more dynamic range, and a6400 as the 6k down to 4k while the canon up scales 1080p to 4k so it's like 1080p, a6400 has picture profiles, and the a6400 is 4x smaller and based on the everyday dad the a6400 has way better and sharper video on his test. Colors are good on both. Both have good lense selection and the a6400 is cheaper. The 90d does have shaper photos with the 32mp senor but for video I suggest the a6400 90d cost 1,200 A6400 cost 800 Both body only
@@parkerb3002 Thanks all that info I have been researching over the past week and decided to get the A6400 😁 picture is in my community tab. However the price for the body alone was 898...😅
EPIC BLASIAN I returned my a6400 the rolling shutter is horrible shakes Jell-O shots everytime. Horrible I would return the a6400 unless you shoot on a tripod 100% of the time.
M6 Mark II: Easy to use( for beginner in Sony system) and affortable prices for full lense kit and lesser lens selection means lesser problem for beginners strugle to buy a lenses( it a benefits but also a downside), meh 4k but look at video make by DSI Picture (btw it was not meant to be a professional camera so give it a pass since most of the people record some great video with their phone) A6400: Buy it if you have more budget
The Canon upsamples a 2K image I believe. It looks good on its own, until you compare it to true 4k like on most other 4k cameras, and then its pretty poor looking.
Liquid Valium Canon upscales 3.6k (not 2k) to 4k: the 16:9 crop is 6960 x 3904, making 2x2 pixels gives 3480 x 1952, which is about 10% off 3840 x 2160. So 3.6k upscaled to 4k. It’s pretty sharp but not as detailed as downsampled from 6k. However, you are unlikely to spot a difference at typical viewing distance on big uhdtv screen.
Good review sir. But please let me be frank with you, Sony is better than Cannon m6 ii in both areas, ask why? The sensor on Sony a6400 is bigger, it has a better micron. Please check again and don't be delusional.
Who cares about video? iPhone is better than either of these and vloggers don't need 4k video. I promise you that no one on RU-vid is watching you talking at a desk on 4k, no one cares.
