Hello, I have an X-Rite i1Display Pro that is 3 years old. I would like to know if it is preferable only one ISF professional calibration for AF9 after purchase or if it is better to buy Calman Enthusiast and calibrate AF9 periodically independently? What are the differences between the 2 solutions? I risk calibrating it worse than the one made by Sony? The price I think is equivalent to the license of Calman Enthusiast. Thank you!

Can you provide any settings and optimal calibration tips for set-top box to remove and granularity of faces or clouds/white? Just wondering the best combination for streaming Video-on-Demand like through Comcast or Time Warner?

As the first OEM Sony seems to be catching up with LG's HDR10 dynamic tone mapping feature !? The Sony features are called "Dynamic Contrast Optimization" and "Pixel Contrast Booster". They seem to work dynamically on a frame-by-frame basis. If there's a chance I'd be extremely interested in seeing this being analyzed and compared with LG's solution in the upcoming review...

Would love to hear about how well this TV handles upscaling HD content (especially 720p and 1080p) in comparison to how the C8 and its alpha9 do it.

would you be able to test some lower bitrate content such as 1080i or 720p. im curious of how much of a difference the new chipset has improved on upscaling. even if its just an opinion id be happy :)

The A8F and the A9F have the best picture integrity in the business for movies. You truly are seeing the movies as was intended by the artist whether you like it or not. Some TVS have all kinds of detail but no shadow detail as intended. Just amazing picture quality for movies. I have not seen the new Panasonic but I believe it would be difficult to copy what has been for many years the reference monitor of Hollywood period. These sets will go down as the best TVs ever made along side the KURO and possibly the new Panasonic.

About the sound: coming from the screen, vibrating, doesn't that compromise image?

the 2018 TV Shootout was recently held at scarsdale, NY. The A9F just barely won the title from the LG E8. I found out that the A9F custom mode is out of the box preset to a 2.4 gamma. what is your opinion about this, because is my understanding that for home use is better to use a target of 2.2 gamma. witch gamma did you use to calibrat this TV?

Vincent, should i buy 2018 tv or wait to 2019, There are going to be major changes/features for the 2019 tv? (like hdmi 2.1 for 2019 tv). i dont want to spend 6000 dollar (this is the price of 75q9fn in israel) and be disappointed for not waiting a little bit more(my current tv is 65hu9000). Hi Vincent, I hope you can test the z9f. I don't know why it's 1000 USD cheaper than z9d 75" in usa. I am mainly interested in number of doing zones and effectiveness of local dimming vs z9d and x940e. I know viewing angle has been improved significantly, so if picture quality/color/black level, response time is also improved, then I would love to grab one on sale about 1 yr from now. Thank you.

1) I would like to see a comparison between the A1 extreme chip and the X1 ultimate chip in terms of upscaling, motionflow, picture quality, posterization and color accuracy. 2) The input lag in and out of game mode in 1080p and 4k HDR is always important for gamers like myself, specially how the tv handles the tone mapping compare to LG and Panasonic. 3) What is the peak brightness in both SDR and HDR. And how the Contrast pixel booster works, is for SDR or just for HDR, does impove the PQ 4) The picture accuracy right out the box in important for people like myself, that live in small countries where is next to imposible to find the service of professional calibrators 5) THIS POINT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BUY THE A9F: the sony A1 and A8F have been suffering from a dimming problem created by a firmware update last year that has yet to this day been fixed. As explained by FLATPANELSHD in a recent article "Owners of Sony OLED TVs are getting increasingly frustrated with the company who has failed to address a severe dimming issue that was introduced with a firmware update more than half a year ago. The issue persists even after the latest update meant to resolve the problem". CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO IT and tell us if the A9f has this problem of dimming when static images are present in the picture like in video games 6) No matter if points 1-4 are the best of the market if the problem in point 5) is clearly present. Nobody wants to spend a shit lot of money on a tv that is ruined by a faulty auto dimming program that ruined gaming and watching football 7) can you please test how well the EARC and tv as center channel funtions work

Fantastic TV!

It has that weird tilt back design with that giant back flap stand. Imo that's a huge step back considering other companies have been making TVs that fit flush to the wall like the wallpaper tv that has all your inputs and power connection on a separate device that also houses your speakers. I recently purchased an A8F after finding out about the design of the A9F. I can't see spending an extra $1000 for an odd tilted back design and "new processor" also the A8F no longer has the dimming issue with the newest update.

Can you please check if the Sony dimming algorith is diferent from the A1 / A8F? is it better or is there a option to turn it off. SONY says that the A1 and AF8/A8F models, after the latest firmware, now employ the same dimming algorithm for improved performance: "Thank you very much for turning our attention again to the reports of the Sony OLED dimming issues. We are aware that the dimming algorithm to keep product reliability on the A1 introduced via the v6.2858 firmware upgrade in some use cases may have appeared too severe as reported by some of our customers. As part of the firmware upgrade v6.5629 we have included a fix that unifies the A1 and AF8 dimming algorithms, so in the same viewing conditions the former should perform exactly the same as the latter,” Sony Europe said in a written statement to FlatpanelsHD.

How wide is the base of the triangle - that is, the distance from the front edge of the screen to the back of the "kick stand"? Also how much lean does it have? Not sure why I'm being asked to spend several thousand dollars on a screen that isn't perpendicular to the floor?

I know you focus mostly on picture quality, but one big gripe I have after testing is that the bluetooth on this tv is terrible to the point where it’s impossible to use a wireless headset (I’ve tested bose and sennheiser sets), the stuttering is just too much. Hope it’s something they’ll address in a firmware update.

After its been reviewed Vincent, would be great if you can do a side by side calibrated comparison with Panasonics FZ802/FZ952 OLED TV to see which has the most accurate colours/picture quality, or even better get the Sony BVX-300 reference master monitor between them to see which has the closest reference picture. Seems like Sony is going with Panasonics approach in terms of viewing how the directors intended and classing it as a master series, so it'll be an interesting comparison - this could potentially be the most consumer reference based oled tv out yet?

Has anyone tried to use a universal TV mount (there are a few nice looking ones on Amazon) to mount this tv or the A1E vertically? I get spending $3500 or $4500 should get you an integrated stand but for $100 or less, one of those stands look workable. I'd love to hear if anyone has tried this! Thanks
