Personally in person the Sony just looks so different and nice. I messed with all the sound and light settings out the box and watched a full UFC (Ortega vs Zombie) it’s sounds amazing with ZERO latency on all settings. Just an amazing portable speaker that did not exist with an amazing price.

Good Detailed Review Always Thank you. You just took the words out of my mouth, there's something about the shape, altho i like RGB lights but the Charge 4 cylindrical shape is more appealing to me, & I can still Sync Charge 4 to my Xtreme 2.

I did a video comparison of these two a while back and both speakers are of similar volume level at 100%. Below that, 40%, 60%, 80%, the Charge 4 is noticeably louder. The XB33 is pretty quiet as the volume level increases in comparison, but there is more increase from 80% to 100% with the Sony. Bottom line, you have to play the XB33 at higher volume levels if you want to get the same level of output from the Charge 4.

I’m a huge Sony fan. And I own the xb33 and I noticed that it’s quiet for his big it is. That’s the biggest issue. The smaller jbl models can produce a louder sound but I believe the bass in the 33 is much better especially in places like the car floor or bathroom

@legendaryblood1937
@legendaryblood1937 3 года назад
@@Cesar-vx3so It's because they don't know how to tune the Motion plus properly with its custom EQ .. and I heard both of them side by side ... I would say that the Charge 4 sounds "more bass" than the Anker because at Max Volume it only shoots out its dominant 60 - 70 hz Bass Boost while most of the frequencies gets rolled off... while the Anker still has bass and also it doesn't compresses the overall sound... so the Anker definitely has the advantages when compared to this 2...

Right. And that will make them sound much different during tests. So you'd need to adjust each speaker so they both produce the same frequency levels between them for the audio tests. Otherwise you're going to notice a big difference between the mids, high and lows like in the varios review videos out there. If you lower some of the bass frequency and turn up the mids and highs on the Sony XB33 it would sound almost identical to the JBL charge 4 and vice versa.

Stereo and Monaural on Small speakers doesn't make a big difference, I might buy the Charge 4 because it can sync with my Xtreme 2. Flip 5 and Xtreme 3 are in different sync format. A lot of people had misconception on speakers because back in the days when its Mono speaker speaker it sounds like AM radio and Stereo speakers sound clear like FM Radio. Now a days Mono Speakers means the signal from left and right channel are being combines into one speaker all the instruments are coming out from the Mono or single speaker that has been technologically assembled. Speakers that are too close together is a monaural format you can only hear stereo separation when they are split apart like 2 feet apart. :)

Both Sony and JBL need to improve their app’s. JBL needs to add a equalizer and Sony should add more to their equalizer as it doesn’t add enough detail. Please review the soundcore rave neo.
@codymackie
@codymackie 4 года назад
I think jbl doesn't have a eq, maybe it's because if you connect more than 1 jbl it could ruin the audio fidelity? Or if you use 2 of the same speakers it might muddle the sound up, but the eq on the slave speaker should be the same as the host and then return to its set eq when it isn't connected to another jbl. Your thoughts?
@mikehancock6280
@mikehancock6280 4 года назад
Cody Mackie the rave neo transfers the equalized sound signature of the primary unit to the secondary unit without issue. So I think it can be done by JBL also but we’ll see.🤷🏻‍♂️ The previous iterations of Sony’s xb series also transfers without a problem but their app is a half hearted attempt.

Was hoping for better mids and highs from Sony in the 33. I've preferred the JBL sound signature in the past and for this battle, I'm going to stick with the high frequency detail of the Charge 4. I do agree, JBL needs to stop with the Mono BS. Not that you get a lot of stereo separation from these, but there is a certain amount of "sparkle" that comes with stereo that is missing in mono.

The sony actually does sound better I think. The JBL has boosted highs which become shrill in some songs. The sony seems a little quieter which makes it hard to judge properly in the context of this test. If you want loudness, go with the JBL it seems. Otherwise, you can really tell in the last song during the test. If you turn the volume up slightly for the sony, it becomes apparent that the sony has the more coherent sound, even if it's nice to have those more pronounced highs on the JBL sometimes. The JBL sounds very V-shaped, emphasis on bass and treble. The sony seems to lean a bit warm and base heavy, but with a flatter curve. I would like a little more highs out of the sony though. Something in-between these two would be perfect

If you combine the two blutooth speakers, then there's no problem. The xb33 doesn't have the highs of jbl and its bass. Though the sony has better bass, the JBL has somewhat of a different bass frequency. Playing the two together would create the perfect sound/music
@MBZero2

Latency issues seems to be the problem. I have XB32 and Charge 3 and I tried to play it together, and damn it's so disgusting to hear when one Speaker lags behind whilst playing the music. Well I trade my XB32 to a Charge 4 in order to use there prowess hehe

I have both of them and I gotta say the Sony is a bit louder ( even at stamina mode ) but doesn't sound as good as the JBL at 100% volume, the Sony has more bass at lower volumes like 30 to 50% and the JBL takes in at like 60%. So they're both great and very loud for their sizes but the bass doesn't get that loud, not like shaking

Did you ever try a Marshall Stockwell 2? Now you can get it new for around 170 dollars. Absolutely great battery life and beats them all soundwise, even as it‘s omni-directional. Not the loudest but for normal listening highly recommended. You can‘t throw it in your pool, but who does this?

Both brands are very good But JBL in my opinion has more experience in making speakers. A lot of People has misconception about 2 speakers and one mono speaker. Back in the days Mono speakers sounds like AM Radio No highs, less bass, and Stereo Speakers Sound like FM Radio which is Clear and natural with highs and Bassy. Now a days Monaural speaker sounds the same as Stereo Speakers, they just do it for many reasons, Space, practicality, technology, weight, appearance. Circuitry, etc...etc... The sound from left and right channel are bring combined into one speaker so all the instruments still coming out as the same as the 2 speaker set up. The new Mono speaker is specifically built to take those signals. I still prefer 2 speaker setup, but if the mono speaker sounds better than the previous Stereo model, i will pickup the better Monaural speaker.

I am not sold on the sony XB33 or JBL charge 4 as I know there are better performing speakers out here on the market. but I'm still looking forward to seeing what jbl charge 5 is gonna bring to the table because I hate mono speakers. and this music industry doesn't record in mono so I don't understand why jbl would downgrade they portable speakers from stereo to Mono, so I hope JBL go back to stereo drivers....

@txdbstx8967 3 года назад
Agreed. However you must take into account that the Sony speakers bass, mid and high frequencies can be adjust to get rid of the muffled sound. Stereo speakers vs a mono speaker will also give a slightly different sound as you are separating two channels instead of every frequency being forced out of all speakers at once like in the JBL Charge 4. It will sound punchier but it will not separate the highs, mids and lows like stereo speakers can do.

@@benjrgadgets7223 I finally bought the sony xb33 and it sounds good, lots of thump. Its doesnt have the sparkle that my flip 4 has but it does have a much fuller sound. The eq on the otherhand is as usefull as a grenade in a glass house, almost no change then BAM, too much change. I was going to get the anker but the xb33 went on sale and i had discounts so i only paid 30 bucks for it. You honestly have to pick your poison with these speakers because they all have pro's and cons (what doesnt).

I dont want to believe that Sony released finally an improved XB43 but fucked up again with the XB33... :/ Would be interested in how far the XB33 can be corrected and pushed via EQ to get some usable hights. The XB30 also needed this correction, but it changed the sound character by changing volume... With standard settings XB33 sounds like a big kitchen radio with a towel over it, the same as the XB30... In any case it's unbelievable that Sony is not able to release a good sounding mid size speaker. I mean i don't like the JBL sound signature that much, but at least there is a straight line in their setup. Every speaker has the same sound setting. In my opinion it would just be logical if the XB33 would sound like a smaller XB43, or a bigger XB23. For a couple of years the most reviewers complain the weak hights on the XB3_ series, but Sony don't care. I don't understand the changes on the XB43 (tweeters for better hights) and on the other hand the unchanged sound structure on the XB3_. So for me it's clear they know what the problem ist, but they don't change it. I don't know what goes on in the Sony sound ingeneers mind...
@AMIGA79
@AMIGA79 4 года назад
Enache Sorin The point is that I have the comparison with many devices. XB30, Denon Envaya 250, Tribit MaxSound Plus, EarFun UBOOM, HK Go&Play... It is not absolutely necessary to implement Tweeters, it is just a question of basic soundsetting and DSP. So you can push the XB30 on a higher level with the implemented EQ. But to get really clear and crisp hights I have to use a further EQ on the DAP or Smartphone. It is the same thing on the UE-cans. Sounding hollow and non-hifi. The hardware is OK but is falling short of its own soundsetting. I like my XB30 really much, thats the reason why i‘m a little bit disappointed about relatively little improvement over the last years. As said, before it‘s not the hardware, just the adjustment. XB 31 is worst, XB32 sounds better than XB30 but worse in handling. Maybe i‘ll try the XB33 again when the price is OK. I heard it just for few minutes with standard EQ (flat and live sound mode) at a friend of mine, unfortunately he hasn‘t got it no more. Maybe it’s possible to push Treble.
@SiriPod597
@SiriPod597 4 года назад
It’s at reasonable price. I owned XB32, but I upgraded to XB33 becuz it’s a major improvement. I wasn’t used to the new design, but starting to see this a reasonable balance between size and shape. The sound is also richer than 32, more clearer and sturdier bass. It’s bigger than the previous model sadly, but when I carry it, the XB33 is a more balanced weight while the previous feels unbalanced that could fall easily. Overall I think the XB33 is worth a mention on improvement to the previous model.
