Your videos are a godsend and your daughter is beautiful! Started Heirloom a couple of years ago and have watched all of your videos and do a lot of buying from Farmhouse bc of your recommendations. I have 2 questions that is a little off topic but need your help please! Pique-I bought both pinwale and birds eye. Will the they work for a box pleated front dress or should a use like a batiste? Thinking about Carol Apron and Pleats II dresses from Childrens Corner. The birds eye-I am hoping to apply an applique on top of it made of the pinwale-will the birds eye raised motif show thru? Planning to use pellon onder under I am hoping to make vintage Mc Calls 8213 with Dachsund applique. won't let me attach pic :( Thanks for any help and keep up the great work!

thanks so much. the pinwale will work for a box pleat, but the birdseye is a bit too heavy and won't lay so nicely. both will work for appliques. hope that helps, happy sewing! :-)

May be the fabric you are using is too heavy, as heirloom sewing which you use the wing needle on is supposed to be light-weight fabric like batiste, voile, Nelona, organdy. I don't seem to have problems using the wing needle with those fabrics. Give those a try.

Somehow I fell down a rabbit hole and found you, and boy oh boy, what a trip. Why in all my years of sewing have I never thought about this? I am a grandmother of 6 and and the last was finally a girl! Now you know I have to make some of these dresses for her. I love the sew alongs. I have done them with learning machine embroidery. Could you possible do a sew along with Knotts Dots? I would love to give that a whirl before investing in a machine (maybe one of yours if you get your giddy up going) LOL. Anywho (lol, where have I heard that?) Love your work, it is gorgeous.

hey there! welcome! I have several videos on how to pleat without a pleater... so check these out knotts dots: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bFgFfl2Oavw.html gingham: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1OVyN7SnvfI.html you can also apply the same technique to dotted swiss or make your own dots: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JbQlAxILWtQ.html and here is the new source for dots bit.ly/3fQdjzo

I love this!!! I use a wing needle- and to each there own. either you love em, or not. But these "controversies" are quite funny to read.

I remember watching one of the courses that you went to away from home a couple of years ago. The instructor said that one shouldn't use a wing needle. I have never tried using one because I haven't needed to.

This is the first time i hear about a winged needle... So, its basically like a hole-pattern maker that guides you to do the upcoming cutwork or white work, is it?
@sarahclassicsewing
@sarahclassicsewing 4 года назад
no, just puts pretty little holes in your fabric.

It can be purely decorative but it can also be used when you've attached or inserted lace with a straight edge on one or both sides. Instead of folding back the trimmed fabric underneath the lace (after you've done the straight stitching to attach it) and zig-zagging to finish you can use a hem-stitch. This does the same job as the zig-zag but also puts a pretty row of holes between the fabric and lace. You make sure that the hole is being made in the fabric and the "to the side of the hole" part of the stitching goes into the lace heading. In that way it is a bit like entredeux or Point de Paris. (Search for images of "pin-stitching by machine" and you'll see what I mean.) For shaped or curved lace edgings and insertions it is just lovely! If you want to and have the right kind of hemstitch pattern on your machine you can use it to "make your own" entredeux too that you then cut into strips and use just the same as you use entredeux. If you don't like using a wing needle (I've never had any trouble with them and love them) you can just use a much thicker ordinary needle than you ordinarily would. It isn't quite as good at making the holes, but it's still very nice.
