This was an excellent tutorial! I am impressed at how pretty this napkin turned out. You did two extra steps that really made the difference…you folded under the raw edge 1/4”, and you stitched from the back first to give you a line to guide you! Wonderful!
I loved your suggestion to topstitch before hemstitching so as to have a line of stitching to follow. This made it very easy to keep everything neat and aligned. I used the stabilizer as you recommended, but still got a little puckering. I used heavy wt. linen which is a little wonky to begin with, but upon watching this video again just now, I noticed that you doubled up the stabilizer. I used it single, so this is why I may have gotten puckering. Not a big deal because I just stretched the embroidery a bit and ironed it which removed most of the puckering. The video was very clear and my white linen napkins came out extremely beautiful. Thank you🥰
Those napkins are not expensive looking , they are super expensive , made with all that love and enthusiasm for the family or friend. Thank you so much for showing the technique . Looks like art work . Be blessed kelly .
This is the best instruction video I've ever seen! It's great for beginners or those who have some experience sewing. I'll be looking for more of Kelly Richardson's videos to add to my joy of sewing. Thank you!!!
Made these yesterday and they turned out beautifully! Kelley, your methodology for mitered corners is the best I’ve seen/done so far...a real game changer for me! Thank you!
I have all of those supplies and just bought some linen. I have been looking for a good explanation of how to make hemstitched napkins. Thanks for a great video.
I enjoyed this. I was experimenting with my wing needle on my old machine and had a good experience with these reminders. Ironically, I was planning to make napkins too! Your voice is nice and instructions clear and succinct. 🌻🌻🌻As a retired English teacher, I’m sorry, I really do appreciate your comfortable correct grammar and normal declarative sentences... no upturned inflections end of sentence like everything is a question used so often nowadays on RU-vid. 😏Thanks for the handy instructions. It’s a keeper! Good luck to you. 🍀🌼
Couldn't agree more! Usually with American presenters I automatically jump5-10 minutes in to get past the worst of the shrieking, handwaving and waffle! So nice to hear someone just speaking clearly 🙂
I make the Alter Napkins for my church & put a cross pattern around the edge of a mitered corner on the napkin. Your method will help simplify the mitered corner and line for top stitching tremendously! Thank you! I certainly subscribed to your site!
This was a perfect tutorial for my project of making a table runner. All the table runnersI looked at don't have the correct dimensions for my table. They were either too long or too short. Now I can make my own, but probably with a much deeper hem. My big problem will be turning the corners with the decorative stitch. But I guess since they will hang down, it won't be so noticeable if they are crooked.
Love the tip on creating the mitered corners. And I've purchased fabric, folding pen and hemstitch needle to try some napkins of my own. Thank you, Kelley!

As long as your machine uses a standard sewing machine needle the wing needles will fit and can be used, but with a straight stitch only machine you don't get the same sort of decorative effect.
