This video will tell you everything you need to know about the main types of glass that are used across the stained glass industry. After watching this you will hopefully be clearer about the diffract glass available and its uses. Many thanks so John London at Reading Stained Glass for his help with this video.

I find the hand made (mouth blown) glasses cut really nicely. St Juste and Lamberts.

With all the multitude of glass textures, opacity, as well as colors you can choose from, it's a lot to take in when designing a stained glass piece. That's what makes this form of art so interesting to me.

Great video! I wish I’d seen this when I first started working with glass. It was so difficult trying to figure out what was what.

This was so informative. I do hope you include the information about the different glass textures and how easy/difficult they are to cut in your up coming book.

That's the plan - and was actually the starting point for the video - I wanted to make sure I got everything right!

Really useful video. I learned about the renamed Spectrum glass to Oceanside. Also fascinating to see some of the iridescent translucent opalescent glass as I haven't used these glasses.

Sophie, why are the translucent glasses only for limited use. And thank you for the wonderful videos

Glass that doesn't let much - if any - light through will unbalance a window and block out the light. That is why it is more suitable for uses other than windows.

I missed the name of the iridescent glass with the daisy patter as there was traffic in the background.

Can any transparent glass with a smooth side be used for painting? What is your favorite clear glass to use for painting?
@SophiesStainedGlass
@SophiesStainedGlass Год назад
Actually it probably depends on what I'm painting. Perhaps St Just for faces - but for things like leaves, I'm not so fussy.
