Ok so this video is part 2 of my review of the AR 45 that I built from a New Frontier 80%. As with any new firearm the first thing you should do is a range trip to sort out any problems that may spring up. So when you go to rely on the gun you don't have to worry about it not working right. This video covers two trips to the range and the problems that popped up. The first trip had the gun working ok with the only real problem being light primer strikes and in the end a broken last round bolt hold open latch. I replaced the hammer spring to solve the first problem, but when I got a replacement latch, Joebobs recommended a stronger spring as these blow back guns can be hard on parts. So the second trip to the range resulted in a new latch breaking after 3 rounds.......So the spring wasn't the cause. And it started going full auto. So the 2 new problems worked out to be the bolt hold open wire being too long and not adjusted right breaking the latches. The latch was replaced with a Seekins enhanced latch after adjusting the wire, so no more broken latch. This will still need further sorting as now the wire isn't engaging the last round hold open. The trigger was replaced as I had polished the first one too much and was firing on the pull and release. So in the end it i

Hey Chris , I stumbled on your first video , while searching for build videos . the burst and full auto fire is something I have seen several times , in every case I have seen it was caused by too strong of a buffer spring ! what happens is the bolt comes back far enough to pick up another round , but not far enough to reset the trigger hammer , the hammer follows the bolt ,holding the firing pin forward/ protruding and Wala you have slam fire. stay with the original spring and the heavy buffer. When you go suppressed use the extra heavy spring , if the slam fires happen using it, try cutting one coil at a time from the back of the spring until you get it just right . R.W. Largo Fl

Honestly that is what I thought as well, but after I got home with the original spring in place, I did a function check and the trigger would not reset it was firing on the release as well as the pull. I had polished the reset area too much. Replacing the trigger group made it function properly again even with the heavier spring.

@@Rumnhammer You essentially had an echo trigger. Very cool. People pay a lot of money for those.

Getting ready to build or buy an AR45 and your videos will be an invaluable resource in assisting me with what will most certainly be someone else's problem.

I was seriously hoping dude would have turned around to whoever was shooting and say, "godammit asshole, cut it out" 🤣

Great rundown! I’m planning an AR-45 build and the two videos were really helpful in thinking some of the issues over. Any thoughts on the CMMG barrel and BCG? I read another review indicating the radial delayed blowback option was a little more reliable (though more expensive). They also recommended going with a .458 upper as well. Finally, looks like New Frontier has taken note of the LRBHO issue as they’re warning of “high likelihood” of breaking the bolt catch. They indicate a new patented feature will be included in their matching uppers, but it’s a dead link/no details. Thanks again for the info!

Buffer to short you need a longer buffer it slams bolt hold open because it travels to far back I had same problem in a 9mm

your buffer needs to be 4 inch long. Also, it's bolt catch, not pink ponk paddle

Would snapcaps or maybe blanks be a good tool to tell if your bolt’s striking light or not without having to go down to a range?
@Rumnhammer
@Rumnhammer Год назад
Yeah, I knew what the problem was though I had lightened the hammer spring too much. The burst fire and light strikes went away after I replaced the trigger with a nice ALG one.

I believe I will be messing around with trying to bend the wire so I have a last round bolt hold open. Instead of bending at the hook however I believe I'll be bending the wire at the paddle end, as I can see when inserting a magazine how much it needs to bend at that end. If anyone requests it I'll make a video on how to make the adjustment.

That a beautiful AR-45. I don't have a last round bolt hold open on my AR 45 but it awesome. You said you used a 80% lower where did you get the jig to mil it out?
@Rumnhammer
@Rumnhammer 5 лет назад
I used the Modulus Arms Extreme router jig. Works great, I used to use a jig on my mill but this is much faster and easier and it also does AR9, AR10 and AR 15 lowers.

Did the last round bolt hold wire cause any failure to feeds? Mine had all the same issues as yours. It also feeds great with standard Glock mags the sgm Korean mags jam everytime and I have a vector mag that was working great then started having failure to feeds I just ended up taking the wire out and haven’t had a chance to try it since. I have the kaw valley 10 oz buffer and heavy spring in mine vs the 8 oz don’t know if that makes a difference?
@Rumnhammer
@Rumnhammer 4 года назад
No I never had any feed problems, I had failures to fire originally, from having the hammer spring too light, but it eats everything up just fine. I think I'll play with the wire a bit more to get the LRBHO to work.

@@Rumnhammer Dumb question but doesn’t the mfgr offer a 45 variant? Are the AR45s just in such low demand that it’s not worth their costs to modify it for this cal specifically? Good comments on the stout spring when running suppressed. Are you planning on doing a video once you get your tax stamp for the can? Your kid is picking up awesome lessons he’d never learn in school. Good on you man. Reminds me of shooting with my dad and gramps when I was a kid. All of this is so important. Sub’d. You should do more vids, even short 10 min ones. You’re good in front of the camera. Stay safe during the WuFlu!

@@austntexan Thanks for the kind words, yes I'll be making more videos and definately when my suppressor is out of jail. Was looking like this month or May, but now that the world is on hold and the BATF too Probably July?? No they only make the upper for PCC's and they say that they make the LRBHO using a glock mag but I think that it is just for the 9mm. I have another video out where I got the hold open sorted out. I primarily make my videos to answer questions for other people that may have the same issues or problems that I have had and looked for answers and finding none I sort it myself and then make a video about it. I will be making more car and gun videos so stay tuned.

How much slop does your mag have in the mag well?
@Rumnhammer
@Rumnhammer 4 года назад
None at all. Stock glock mags will drop free with a flick of the wrist, the Korean mags still need to be pulled free but with not much effort. Pistol is now functioning perfectly but still working on the last round bolt hold open. I will post a video after I get that sorted.

To be honest I haven't shot it since this video I've been sorting out the last round bolt hold open, which I just posted a video on how to do. That being said it was about 2 inches firing offhand at 50 yards with iron sights....
