Haven’t watched the discussion yet but echoing the comments from last week, please use the term “shishigumi” (pronounced “she-she-goo-me”) instead of “Leo group” as this fan sub translates it, when referring to the lion mafia group. It’s the canon and widely accepted name of the group, and while “Leo group” is technically not wrong and gets the gist across it’s kinda like referring to the “Akatsuki” from Naruto as “sunrise”.......you just don’t do it.

The sweaty jacket also covers her scent effectively, and acts as both protection for her from the lions, and reduces the scent as a distraction for his 'prey' instinct. Plus, she now smells like him. She smells like 'pack' or 'family'. Doubt it was a conscious thought in Legoshi's head, but it's a definite factor for any canine species.

Just for the record, the Yakuza style 'beat up everyone up the tower' thing was an anime thing. In the manga the situation was revolved by Gohin pulling out a Light Machine Gun and despite saying there were 35 members of the shishigumi we only ever see like 10 after this. Still, a great episode. Next week is going to be a blast though.

Not really, at least not in S2 besides some fights here and there. It gets more "full battle shounen" on the hypothetical S3 and S4.

7:24 Legoshi should’ve said “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” But man did he quickly regret that line at 8:02. Loved that scene though as his inner feral self briefly came through in that scene. I did like the comic relief line at 15:26 of Legoshi apologizing to Haru if his shirt smelled LOL

Also, from all the 10 animes they're currently reacting to, this is the only one were the majority of their reactions/discussions except EP3 lasts between 50 minutes to 1 hour. Goes to show how much they're enjoying it, after all its a fantastic show.

@@incorrectplin4344 I know, but if you check the length of the Vimeo's videos and also add the length of their YT discussions, the majority of the other current reactions still can't reach the 50 min-1 hour mark. For example their last Asobi reaction is 13 mins long on YT and 12 mins on Vimeo = 25 in total.

As much as I love Beastars, I'll forever think it was a dumb for the anime to have Legosi somehow taking on all of the shishigumi without a single interior guard having a gun or without Legosi having to kill or maim anybody. Focusing on the raid just doesn't work because it's too ridiculous without panda machine gun to even the odds.

Yes, having a gun in Japan is a hassle. You need to pass many exams, and it's costly. The only weapons they let you have are shotguns and air rifles. No pistols, AR, SMG and the like.

I see they're still calling them the "Leo Group", I thought one of the mods from their Discord would've let them know by now that they're officially called the Shishigumi. Oh well they'll most likely use the correct name when Season 2 comes out next January. Can't wait to see their reactions at next episode's "shocking" moment xD well, 2 shocking moments actually.

I think that translating it to Leo Group is valid since the name Shishigumi is made of the words "Shishi" wich means "Lion" and "Gumi" wich refers to an organized criminal group like the Yakuza/Mafia, and this means that a japanese speaker would be able to understand that the Shishigumi is "lion criminal organization" and this translation preserves that.

@@22Neath22 yes, but the point is that the official English translations for both the manga and anime keeps the name as Shishigumi, so that's the correct way to refer to it. Now when they eventually react to S2 they'll be like "Huh? what is the Shishigumi?", but hopefully they'd have find out by then.

I could be wrong but the words they use for Leo Group is Shi-shi, which is the jp version of the chinese word for lion (Shi-zi)

Yeah, in Japanese they call it Shishigumi using the japanese 獅子 shishi which means lion. Gumi in this instance refers to a group of individuals. So technically it should be the "Lion Group". The name also sounds similar to "Shinsengumi" which was a samurai police force in Kyoto in the late Tokugawa shogunate. I dunno if that was intended or not though :P

I agree. Don't know why they cut Louis pulling a gun on Bill from the anime, it is foreshadowing for his appearance at the Shishigumi hideout and killing the boss while also painting a picture of how unstable he is.

If you're expecting Beastars to have "best fighting scenes", please don't. Fighting is never the strong suit for this series. Beastars mainly explore the theme of social prejudices and how people always have their own flaws. And this is the FIRST work from the author, Paru Itagaki, ever published widely.

I like the anime's fights so far because they're realistic. They end quickly and they're impactful. The final boss of the Shishigumi is my favourite, love the choreography with the lightning illuminating them from time to time.

Compared to the majority of other animes produced nowadays, I find Beastars to be more well-written both story wise and character wise, non-cliché and original. Its no wonder they'd enjoy this more compared to perhaps other action episodes from more generic-looking animes.

this is where the series went downhill for me honestly. it clearly shows the plot armor at you. you would not think that 2 people charging into a criminal organization is a smart idea right? thats because it isnt, they should've and would've got shot on the spot. that one lion had legoshi at gun point 2 whole times and does nothing. im most likely gonna get hate for this but somebody needs to speak the truth.

Are you talking about the anime or the manga? To be fair, fighting scenes are never the strong suit of Beastars. Sometimes they can get cringy or downright silly and cliche. Afterall, the author made the series mainly around the theme of defying social prejudices and how the world is not just black/white but rather gray.
